I'm pretty sure we just witnessed an epic failure. The news team was already loaded with spectacular questions to ask the astronaut who was supposed to answer these questions with a loaded response and some good video... Nothing happened. There wasn't any impact from a 2 1/2 ton bomb, no dust cloud, no debris. Nothing. That's why in the interview they immediately struggled with what they were saying.

If the moon was originally part of Earth which broke away during a collision with another cosmic body, then there is a limited probability that certain gases abundant on Earth at that time, like methane, may be trapped in sub-surface pockets on the moon .
Now we send two very hot, fuel-laden vehicles traveling at twice the speed of a bullet which burrow deep within the moon with their payloads and explode on final impact somewhere deep within the moon...

On the other hand,we all know that the moon is a lot less dense than Earth, so hopefully, as there was no apparent sign of debris, the vehicles caused very little damage, and the actual impact force was primarily absorbed by the moon's infrastructure.
Either way, this is bullshit.
One landing craft outfitted with a drill would have been a lot more effective and a lot less destructive.
Now that the U.S has done it, everybody else is gonna want to do this crazy shit.

There should be a global body to oversee scientific research of all types in order to ensure that shit like this isn't allowed to happen.
No Scientific organization should have the individual authority to cause destruction anywhere, not even for the cause of scientific research.
It's possible that both vehicles hit the moon at such a velocity that they continued plummeting deep into the moon's infrastructure.and could have set off some sort of chain reaction which will manifest itself later.
