OMG! I've been looking for this song for years! Never knew who recorded this... I remember I used to "sing" Yolanda's part in my bedroom with my brush in the mirror =) Thanks for posting this!!
@RCMCPREZ ...I meant "I'll be sharing some of "my" music with you all real soon." sorry about the typo...and you are right, James Mitchell does sound alot like Lawrence Matthews. The musical talents and skills that they round up at those workshops are nothing short of amazing! I sure wish they would've started recording those live concerts on video at some point...that would've been totally ridiculous to see those concerts on VHS (back in the day, lol) or DVD.
@RCMCPREZ No problem Prez. I am just so blessed to see the Edwin Hawkins M&ASMC gettin' so much love on YouTube. I love the amazing work that Edwin Hawkins and Kevin Bond and the rest of the camp does with the Mass Choir, and don't get me started on those killer vamps. KB has produced and arranged some of the tightest vamps in gospel music. I have five albums from the Music & Arts Seminar Mass Choir and 6 others on CD. I'll be sharing some of music with you all real soon. Stay tuned!
@MrCrossIsBoss This song was actually written by James Mitchell who also sang the male lead along with Yolanda Adams. V. Michael McKay was the Head Director of the Houston M&A Chapter but as far as I know he didn't submit a song to the seminar workshop that year.
@oldtimer1965 Wow! You have hit the JACKPOT for me. I knew that this was not Lawrence Matthews dueting with Yolanda on this song (although, at times it sounds like him). But, I never knew who. You have just put it all together for me. Thank you!
@MrCrossIsBoss Sure! (Chorus 2)Give me the courage to fight, and the strength just to conquer these problems, these burdens, burdens I carry. Jesus! jesus! My trust lies in you. (chorus 3) Burdens won't live here. These problems won't stay. No these burdens won't live here. These problems - problems won't stay here. Jesus! Jesus! My Trust Lies In You.
I wish I knew the lyrics to this song, especially the second chorus. I even Googled them and can't find them anywhere. This song was an incredible and personal outcry through fear and pain from a weak soul to trust in Jesus. V. Michael McKay couldn't have written a better song (he would go on to write "The Battle Is The Lord's" by Yolanda Adams)...the choir couldn't have been better, and this power duet with Lawrence Matthews could NOT have been better.
I remember having this entire album on vinyl! This was the second song on Side A of the record! The funny thing about is that even though i don't know where that album went to (i lost that record many moons ago), i still remember the entire song list from that album! 1) I Need You. 2) My Trust Lies In You. 3) He'll Make A Way. 4) With My Whole Heart. 5) He Won't Let You Down. 6) Jesus Lives In Me. 7) Spirit Fall Fresh On Me. 8) Give Us Peace!
Man!! It just clicked!! I was listening and then certain parts came back to me. Steve Lawrence taught this song to Refreshing Springs COGIC Youth Choir back in the day way before he worked for TD Jakes. I didn't know this song was on the same album as Hold On and He's Alright. Man what happened to Gospel music?
@Mjpawmi Naw....this song is from "Give Us Peace" recorded live in Houston TX, which was the entire seminar choir. "Hold On" was by the Bay Area Chapter of the EHMAS.
@queenmother928 Yes; this was "the song" for sure, back in the 80's. My pleasure to post it. Too bad I couldn't find a better copy in my boxes and boxes of 20+ year old cassette tapes! lol
