@MechPhantom Way with no way, Form with no form. Read the book... it might change your life. Wushu is chinese for martial arts... china has 1.3 billion people... @MarcelleioRobinsio it is the art of war of fighting. each person adapts i differently fron experience but adapts it none the less. some ppl might has same and different things but since that was the point of the generality. i say its like art of war. :D
@DuYiZhang this must come from wing chun because in it the rear hand doesn't protect the cheek like with boxing, but remains little lower. there is reasons for this, for example because the punching is different from western boxing as elbow is kept low and direction of punch being more raising upwards rather than from shoulder level. whether the hand is next to cheek or little lower it still needs to block actively, as simply holding the hand next to ur head will only being hit by ur own fist
@DonMega187 yes a faulty concepts of 20 th century boxing. alot of his stuff comes more from 1800 and older ideas of boxing like the verticle hook to counter a hook. very popular at the time
@MechPhantom No on the contrary, it stays away from flashy moves and relies heavily on speed, balance, feinting(deceptive hand/kick manipulations), and quick non-telegraphic counters. There's a lot of inside fighting and most of it happens only after the opponent throws a punch or kick thereby opening up an opportunity for the jkd practitioner to capatalize on while giving no advantage in turn to his opposition.
@digitalgenitals WOW! sounds soo cool man , i really want to learn this Martial art, coz from what i heard(other people than you) its not even fancy to start with,it uses basic punches, kicks etc. But i was just skeptical that it was flashy. But really i can see its super effective and deadly man. Thx for ur reply man really appreaciate it see you
@MechPhantom Np, I'm at the beginning stages of learning it myself. Only thing holding me back is finding a like minded individual around my area who wants to train with me. It's an art that demands a counterpart. I have a wing chun dummy being shipped to me that will help with speed and precision but timing and feinting I need someone to spar with. Too bad you're not my neighbor ;P I'll prob have to take out an ad in the paper. GL with your training!
I recognise some of these people as Wing Chun practicioners, maybe some of them even trained with Sifu Ip Chun/Ip Ching? After all, they are doing Wing Chun forms with JKD principles. I like their training, this is real stuff.
Im glad this guy is clearly focusing on his form, footwork and combinations, however im sorry but you need to start eating some serious protein and lifting some serious weights if you want to last against any average size man. Bruce Lee himself said technique and skill are important but the better athlete almost always wins anyways. So this guy can work on his footwork and straight blasts all he wants, but if he stays 123lbs, hes going to get floored and prison raped by any joe blow tough guy.
@mark1983peace Bruce Lee was also a muscle machine and used to weight lift 6 times a week... thats where he built his base for all of his strength/ agillity/ athletisim... Bruce used to blend raw meat, eggs and protein powder into these freakish protein shakes... this guy looks like he does twenty sit-ups a day and calls it a night
@kgamer121 I watched a documentary one time about Bruce. One of his training partners said that using only his thumb, he could push the lid of an unopened glass coke bottle inside with either hand. He was something else. You're right he's probably not as strong as Bruce, lol, but I bet he's a lot stronger than you think.
@mark1983peace My point was, Bruce Lee only started developing this strength AFTER he started his intense weight lifting regimen. And this guy clearly doesnt do any weight lifting(Ive watched some other videos of him) so if he wants to actually be a power house like Bruce was, he needs to lay off the the wooden combo dummy and pick up some dumbells to start building some serious isometric strength...
@kgamer121 You're right. Conditioning is probably the most important thing in fighting, then technique and determination.
His technique alone is probably enough to beat the average guy though, but if he was built like a brick shit house then it would take him to a new level of dangerous.
@tuzwol Yeah I have his "Fighting Methods" book series and he was obsesssed with forearm, hand/ wrist training. He believed(and I do as well) your punching power came from your grip strength and the density of your fist. Thus he became obsessed with building the most powerful hands/wrists and forearms he could. He's still the only guy I hear about in the fighting community that talked about this... No-one I've heard of specifically trains forearms like he did.
@kgamer121 You never know home much he really weighs unless he tells you, i know dudes that look like they don't weigh more than 130, but turns out they way 185, that's close to 200lbs, but you are right, not saying you aren't, only saying some times what you see when you look at him is not really what is
@dbzxv I have been wrestling since elementary school all the way up through college. I have developed a nack for estimating how much someone weighs. His hips are very thin and hes has no ass, that is where all of your weight is. Hes not very tall, maybe 5' 9"(being generous). He has a very narrow thin chest, he has no depth to his back or shoulders, very thin arms, no thickness to his waiste, neck or stomach judging from his belt width. I am going to say 123-138 lbs(138 is generous).
i realy would like to join in a jkd or wing chun classe but i couldnt find any classes around my town -.- and im realy pissed off that im not able to learn matrial arts -.-
I dont really understand what your saying. Are you stating Bruce did not use wing chun in his later progression in JKD? Bruce studied many, many styles and only used the techniques that worked for him. He used a lot of wing chun(trapping, parrying, and not to mention the vertical punching system). So, I'm not completely sure what you mean, but really nice JKD and wing chun all the same.
To everyone, the very last thing Bruce Lee said in his Tao of Jeet Kune Do was that JKD was just a name and it shouldn't be compared to other styles. Bruce Lee made JKD as a philosophy to combine martial arts and not just to make one style.
You cant have JKD, without Wing Chun, because the Wing Chun theory is the basis of JKD, ofcourse you can do away with the traps, striking and what not, as the Wing Chun attack methods may not suit your body, but you cannot say that Wing Chun principles are good to follow in a fight, simplicity, economy of motion, and directness, it will finish the fight as soon as possible.
Good training, continue to discover yourselves, brothers.
@hegone93 Ah training in jeans, that seems a good thing as one is more likely to be attacked whilst wearing jeans or pants that restrict the legs movement. I mean who walks around in a martial arts suit. hmmm i might start training in jeans :)
@Tirane28 Actually, those 90% southpaws were really right handed...in JKD you lead with your dominate hand so that is why you see mostly southpaw stances, Bruce believed you lead with your strongest punch as part of the straight arm blast so if you are right handed, you lead with your right arm , if you are left handed you would lead with your left
Very very very good demonstration. Main instructor is really good. I hope you will have someday in future years a seminar in Serbia, I would be pleased to meet you.
I may have missed some other things as i am not a jkd student yet, because i don't see my self having the extreme speed, and endurance, but if one day i have, i will start learning this art.
But the reality is that jkd is extremely to master, even alot of instructor themselve may know the concept, but willn't be able to perform the art. Its a very selective art, and one that requires a fighter who have extreme fitness, SPEED, accuracy, quick reaction speed, mind, and total controll and understanding of the human structure.
it requires speed, and understanding of human body deeply for both purposes of how to generate more power and more precise detail to different human part to target. It almost a selective blends of different martial arts, and as a muay thai fighter, i see jeet kune do as the next level up.
from a non -bias view, well i studied martial art as well, mainly in muay thai, and tawendo. Let me tell you jkd is an advanced fighting style which requires understanding of a bunch of martial arts, such as muay thai, wing chun....etc.
@Jaoxue, in order to fully understand JKD u have to have an understanding of wing chun. Remember that Bruce was trained mainly in wing chun and then was trained in western kickboxing and fencing...JKD really isn't a "martial art" (I prolly get bashed for saying that), but it is a group of concepts that bruce adopted and found work effectively together. remember what bruce said, take in what is useful, discard what is useless.
Listen to all the experts comment on JKD and Bruce Lee....Most of them were not even alive when Bruce was still living...My advice is keep your know - it - all comments to yourselves.
Aside from the wing chun forms in the begining, he was doing JKD. He using strong hand on-guard stance, economy of motion, and sparring techniques of JKD. JKD took a lot of wing Chun like centerline, vertical punching, pak shou sparring, etc etc. Also the on guard stance is from Fencing. Bruce says that he didn't mean to create JKD as a new style, add to or modify other styles. JKD is simply taking some useless parts out of martial arts. Big part of that is routines & wasted movements.
JKD could only be used by Bruce...it was his tool that fit only HIS body. Empty yourself and quest for what works best for your body and soul. Journey into other arts and strip away the non-essential..then move on. Empty the mind of the nonsense and make room for more sensible tools. Be your own Master.
Your completely write. Except JKD was not built for his body only. It is three principles, simplicity, effectiveness, directness. Hell I don't care what you call it. "JKD" is the philosophy of pure, effecient, direct, combat. This is something that Bruce apparently did not have success in teaching to many of his students.
it has became to people so easy to hurt them but not to hurt them is very hard to do take up aikido to see the real art of self defence not fighting as you learn to defend yourself from fighting not to become fighting dont waste your time

true martial artist don't disrespect others.
each form of martial arts have the same purpose, only different is each one have their own skills and specialties.
please stop your blah blah blah.
people who know dont talk, and the one that talk dont really know.
JKD can be any form of martial arts, it just happen to be developed by Bruce Lee, and he called it that.

All the best,

Im glad this guy is clearly focusing on his form, footwork and combinations, however im sorry but you need to start eating some serious protein and lifting some serious weights if you want to last against any average size man. Bruce Lee himself said technique and skill are important but the better athlete almost always wins anyways. So this guy can work on his footwork and straight blasts all he wants, but if he stays 123lbs, hes going to get floored and prison raped by any joe blow tough guy.
kgamer121 1 year ago
@kgamer121 Bruce Lee was like 135lbs, probably about the same weight as this guy
mark1983peace 1 year ago
@mark1983peace Bruce Lee was also a muscle machine and used to weight lift 6 times a week... thats where he built his base for all of his strength/ agillity/ athletisim... Bruce used to blend raw meat, eggs and protein powder into these freakish protein shakes... this guy looks like he does twenty sit-ups a day and calls it a night
kgamer121 1 year ago
@mark1983peace Because of all this weight training Bruce Lee also had jacked 13.5 inch arms and forearms the size and strength of 200lb + men....
kgamer121 1 year ago
@kgamer121 I watched a documentary one time about Bruce. One of his training partners said that using only his thumb, he could push the lid of an unopened glass coke bottle inside with either hand. He was something else. You're right he's probably not as strong as Bruce, lol, but I bet he's a lot stronger than you think.
mark1983peace 1 year ago
@mark1983peace My point was, Bruce Lee only started developing this strength AFTER he started his intense weight lifting regimen. And this guy clearly doesnt do any weight lifting(Ive watched some other videos of him) so if he wants to actually be a power house like Bruce was, he needs to lay off the the wooden combo dummy and pick up some dumbells to start building some serious isometric strength...
kgamer121 1 year ago
@kgamer121 You're right. Conditioning is probably the most important thing in fighting, then technique and determination.
His technique alone is probably enough to beat the average guy though, but if he was built like a brick shit house then it would take him to a new level of dangerous.
mark1983peace 1 year ago
@kgamer121 ,according to Bob Wall, his forearms were 15 inches, my guess was 14,looks like I was off
tuzwol 1 year ago
@tuzwol Yeah I have his "Fighting Methods" book series and he was obsesssed with forearm, hand/ wrist training. He believed(and I do as well) your punching power came from your grip strength and the density of your fist. Thus he became obsessed with building the most powerful hands/wrists and forearms he could. He's still the only guy I hear about in the fighting community that talked about this... No-one I've heard of specifically trains forearms like he did.
kgamer121 1 year ago
@mark1983peace ,he was,but he trained his forearm tremendously and his whole body
tuzwol 1 year ago
@kgamer121 You never know home much he really weighs unless he tells you, i know dudes that look like they don't weigh more than 130, but turns out they way 185, that's close to 200lbs, but you are right, not saying you aren't, only saying some times what you see when you look at him is not really what is
dbzxv 1 year ago
@dbzxv I have been wrestling since elementary school all the way up through college. I have developed a nack for estimating how much someone weighs. His hips are very thin and hes has no ass, that is where all of your weight is. Hes not very tall, maybe 5' 9"(being generous). He has a very narrow thin chest, he has no depth to his back or shoulders, very thin arms, no thickness to his waiste, neck or stomach judging from his belt width. I am going to say 123-138 lbs(138 is generous).

1337boiboi 1 year ago
To everyone, the very last thing Bruce Lee said in his Tao of Jeet Kune Do was that JKD was just a name and it shouldn't be compared to other styles. Bruce Lee made JKD as a philosophy to combine martial arts and not just to make one style.
iBoss99 1 year ago
You cant have JKD, without Wing Chun, because the Wing Chun theory is the basis of JKD, ofcourse you can do away with the traps, striking and what not, as the Wing Chun attack methods may not suit your body, but you cannot say that Wing Chun principles are good to follow in a fight, simplicity, economy of motion, and directness, it will finish the fight as soon as possible.
Good training, continue to discover yourselves, brothers.

90% of jkd video i have seen the people were mostly southpaw
Tirane28 1 year ago
@Tirane28 Actually, those 90% southpaws were really right handed...in JKD you lead with your dominate hand so that is why you see mostly southpaw stances, Bruce believed you lead with your strongest punch as part of the straight arm blast so if you are right handed, you lead with your right arm , if you are left handed you would lead with your left

I may have missed some other things as i am not a jkd student yet, because i don't see my self having the extreme speed, and endurance, but if one day i have, i will start learning this art.
jazzysam1314 1 year ago
But the reality is that jkd is extremely to master, even alot of instructor themselve may know the concept, but willn't be able to perform the art. Its a very selective art, and one that requires a fighter who have extreme fitness, SPEED, accuracy, quick reaction speed, mind, and total controll and understanding of the human structure.
jazzysam1314 1 year ago
it requires speed, and understanding of human body deeply for both purposes of how to generate more power and more precise detail to different human part to target. It almost a selective blends of different martial arts, and as a muay thai fighter, i see jeet kune do as the next level up.
jazzysam1314 1 year ago
from a non -bias view, well i studied martial art as well, mainly in muay thai, and tawendo. Let me tell you jkd is an advanced fighting style which requires understanding of a bunch of martial arts, such as muay thai, wing chun....etc.

Is siu nim tau (1st wing chun form) part of the jeet kune do training programme?
Jaoxue 2 years ago

Ronin6575 2 years ago

Be your own Master.
dragonlense 2 years ago 15
@dragonlense
