  • How do you edit your pictures to make them have that almost magic look? I´m amazed!

  • Awesome Photos! What lens did you use Dom? and what bracketing did you use? I'd love to try this here in a Canadian winter... -14, you're lucky... we can get 3+ weeks straight without going above -20. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • ARE YOU ONLY ALONE IN SCOTLAND...???NOBODY AROUND

  • dom my friend have you ever thought of going full frame.

  • WWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW THATS INCREDIBLE!

  • Damn this makes me want a super wide NOW LOL. Incredible shots as always Dom! So are you using the in camera bracketing? Did u use a tripod? I shoot with Canon 50d, and it only brackets 3 shots I usually try to do -2, 0, +2 ev but my HDRs NEVER come out looking like anything u produce with colors etc.. what EV range do you use? Thanks again man!

  • Wow, love these, I live in Aviemore and "dabble" in photography...... this winter has already been snowier and colder!

  • Inspiring!

Reminds me of Sweden, we had -30 last winter but the cold gave some great photo opportunities.

    Thanx for a great video.

  • 5:18 it sounded like you were pissing on it :D

  • Oh i hope it gets this cold again this winter!

  • Just superb HDR images.

    Well done!!!!

  • Awesome video and great shots, personally I thought the overcast pictures were the best of them. Just out if interest what tripod do you use because mine is a crappy velbon one and I need a sturdier one. Cheers and keep up the great work.

  • that's awesome. I have never thought about winter HDR before.but it's realy awesome...Thanks for the inspiration. I will try this...sorry if i have mistakes...my English is bad ;)

  • @musaka14 your english was very good well done

  • Hi Dom

Great HDR photo's could you please do another video on how you produced the photo's. also could you tell me what camera you use to make your videos.

Thanks keep up the great work!

  • does the freezing cold affect the camera in any way?

  • @Mtbfanro it might do if i wasnt going indoors after every 20 mins. the nikon d300 should be fine down to minus 10 but its more worrying if you have any moisture in the camera or lens that might freeze. mechanically the camera will work fine. but lower than minus 10 i am not so sure.

  • This is great video all of your videos are a bast to watch.

  • @TheAspendude thanks

  • Fantastic, thanks for helping us improve.

I keep all of your videos for some time.

  • Amazing!! Thanks for sharing Dom.

  • Dom I want to learn all that you know. You HDR images are incredible. I m from Lancashire and its pretty boring here for making landscapes

  • Really awesome photos Dom! This makes me wanna go out and do some hdr-work : )

  • Hey Dom i checked out your HDR videos, great ! i want to try it. Where can i buy Photomatrix from, where did ya get yours? Ive only found them in Dollars. Cheers !

  • Hi Don,

I just want to know if you use any Filters for this shots. Great pictures.

    Thanks

  • no, and my name is Dom.

  • This is a great video Dom, All of your videos are a blast to watch.

  • Oh and apparantly my parents have met you at Alison McKnights place which I find interesting, small world!

  • Not sure i know alison mcknight. who are your parents?

  • Mark and Fiona Elder. It was at the Red Earth launch party in Cafe Blue this past December?

  • Hey Dom, I like the photos. Can i ask how you create your HDR images, do you use software such as Photomatrix? Thanks much

  • sure do, just check out my other videos, i have done a couple on hdr photography

  • @dombower Brilliant, ill check them out. Cheers !

  • Great pictures man! I live in Dulnain Bridge, about 11 miles from Aviemore and boy was this winter a crazy one!

I did get a few snaps my self but none like yours, well maybe one day! ;)

  • Hello! Sir, which one of the DSLR's would you chose for wide angle(Landscape), Portrait work and Low light photography. The Canon 40D, Canon 50D and the Nikon D90??? Please kindly explain why, you will choose that specific camera. Thanks a lot in advance, waiting for you reply as soon as possible!!!

  • @nicklaw8 thats totally the wrong question.

its about the lens not the dslr

  • @dombower

    Well...

    Technically the DSLR kinda matters

    Crop sensor vs full frame

Obviously full frame would be better for wideangle but crop sensor wil lbe better if your wanting to use zoom lens'

so nick, to answer your question.

For REALLY wide angle you would prefer

a full fram sensor (sported in such cameras as the canon 1d, ds, II, III, and the 5d, II

But dom is totally correct, the lens matters MUCH more

  • @uuilliam

with crop sensor for a decent wideangle you might want the 10-20mm sigma

but if you have full frame, the 24mm will do perfectly

I am assuming you are a beginner therfore, your not really wanting to sped £3'000 on a body then an extra £1000 + on a lens (hey, why buy a cheap lens to put on a dear body!)

therefore you might want to buy a beginenr range camera

    Canon, 300D, 350D, 400D, 1000D, 450D and 500D

  • @uuilliam

    not to be biased,

    nikon D40, D40x, D50, D60, D70

    Ill leave it at that.

P.s. dom, Beautiful video and photographs

  • the opetions that Niklaw8 gave me did not involved a full frame sensor. the costs he was goiing for was around th sub 1000 pounds and their aint any full frame dslrs for that kind of money soooo

  • hey great photo's. can you make a video showing us how you take and make HDR photo's.

    thanks

  • images turned out awesome as usual, suggestion...u should wear a took, -25 windchill can freeze ur ears off =)

  • Did u use a tripod for all of your hdr shots or handheld?

I love your tutorials and reviews btw :D

  • read the comments below

  • WilliamMuskus, when you going out to take some HDR photos - tripod is highly recomended. Dom is using one of the best HDR camera wich can take up to 9 dynamic shots - try to take 9 photos without camera shake :P impossible. My camera can take up to 5 but mostly I go for 3 and sometimes I don't use tripod at all and they are fine as you can align some very small movements with your software. Go out and try some with and without tripod. My advise is to inhale take a shot exhale :P.Cheers!

  • U r the best!

  • Thanks for the tutorial on HDR. Sorry I did not saw your HDR tutorial before. Great job on your explanation, you are easy to understand, I like the you explain photographie. Cheers!

  • did you use a circular polarizer at all?

  • Wow amazing pictures, could you do a tutorial on HDR photographie?

  • already done! check my website

  • Some lovely shots there!

    Cheers!

  • Some fantastic image's here Dom.

    A great video.

  • Sweet opening Pic!!!

  • You need some sleep man, look at those eye bags!Nice photos again!Though I kind of see some haloing on the trees and buildings in some pictures

  • @liontroupe did you see the video from before? with my niece? that is why i look so super tired!

  • were those done with one raw file or several exposure shots?

  • He said he used bracketing, so multiple exposure shots

  • OMG thats cold we are crying about being in the 20's for one day here in Texas

  • hay Dom. great video. Awesome HDRs. appreciate how you present everything before taking your pictures. I hop you did get a picture of the frozen spider web. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

  • hey dom thanks for doing these videos they're great i love them.

im just sorta getting into photography and i really wana try some hdr work like you've got here, but im running on a pocket money budget (i'm only 16) and can't really afford to buy an HDR computer package, have you got an idea of any decent free ones?

i've briefly tried 2 others but they're a bit crap and SUPER complicated to use.

btw i'm from edinburgh to! good to get some tutorials with a fimiliar accent :)

    thanks so much

  • @bontyjarron22

Not sure where you can get free software the onlything is that you can use the software Photomatix for free but it leaves watermarks across it, but you can still make cool images. give that a try. hope to see you making some photomontage videos soon!

  • Hi Dome! again great video of Scotland winter landscapes :). You done a very good job with this HDR photos, they are Awesome!! I done some my self over the winter time in Northern I. even today after snow storm :P. Appreciate you work and time :) keep up the good work. Cheers!

  • Bontyjarron22 You can buy Paint Shop Pro x2 for about £20 with free delivery on Ebay and play with HDR photos :). Licence for Photomatix is $99 so it's not that bed, but wit PSP X2 you can do more than HDR :]. Have fun!!

  • Dom, Those are absolutely wonderful looking HDRs you did there and they came out great in my opinion.

My question: With it being around 6-7 degrees farheinheit, how did the camera act? I know you normally have to wait a short time after you move from one temp to another but how long did it take and did you see any problems with Nikon? or lenses?

  • my camera worked totally fine. moving from car to outside i feared their may be some condensation on the lens but it was cold enough in the car to not cause this. but when i went into the house or the resturant at the water sports it became soking wet! but no problem, just left it in the car as i got a hot chocolate and it dryd off nicely in the car

  • Guess who woke up with snow outside his window this morning? - looks like my prayers have been answered!

  • very nice HDR and what a great place to spend the holidays!

  • Dom, great use of HDR as well. It so often looks over done but you nailed it great. Did you do all your bracketing hand held?

  • @ghpatriot this time i did. too cold to be fannying about with a tripod

  • Thanks=)

  • I have to learn how to do hdr

  • @ghpatriot watch my other videos for advice

  • Really Spectacular shots here Dom.

  • Great great great shots dom.. did you go all by yourself? i kinda notice a guy was also walking around the place where there was a ruin... kinda' spooky yet amazing place... and oh yeah.. how did the temperature affect the camera's performance? how would you think my little nikon d60 hold up in a place like that?

  • Lovely shots Dom. Surprised you managed to find some blue sky up in scotland! Unfortunately down in old somerset our 'winter wonderland' is pretty much a light layer of frost in the morning.

    Thank you for sharing

  • @alip93 there is always blue sky up in scotland, its just above the clouds!

  • ahh ... know how that feels - recently made some long time exposures of stars at night ( -26°C) discovered that the camera doesnt like that either... nice work !

  • Did you use a tripod?

  • Sir Don ;D.

You need to switch to HD now :)

    Great pics and video!!

  • Dom*

  • Beautiful, as usual. Great work Dom.

  • those HDR Photos look AMAZING !!!

  • Cool video Dom (no pun intended) thank you for braving the cold. Makes the temps here look warm.

  • how do i do hdr? can a canon eos take 3 pic like this

  • @Techintel I'm pretty sure ha has a How To Video up on his channel. hope this helps. :)

  • The shots are awesome! and love your reviews and tips, they're great!

  • dom! how many exposures do you use in your HDRs? 3? 5? 7? 9? They're always great!

  • 3 raw on my d300 at 6fps. and dog tugging at arm so any more than 3 and it gets blurry!

  • Awesome shots! I was shooting at -45°C (Canada) for the New Years Eve fireworks!

  • cool hope you put up your shots!

  • The spider web is just amazing! Thank you, Dom, you are getting better and better! And HDR is fantastic! 10 stars!!!

  • great photo's dom, got my self a canon 450d for christmas so im gonna try some bracketing shots after seeing your guide so thanks for the info and keep up the good work.

  • Dom,Take it from a Canadian with no hair... wear a tuque in this weather!!

  • Good stuff Dom....compositions are nice too. Not a fan of HDR though.

  • HDR isn't my thing either but what can I say! They look pretty cool!

  • nice one again big man, if that ice did break and you started to fall into the ice cold water below, what would you have saved frist -1)your dog or 2) your D300 !

You need to think of these things. For me it would be my dog...with the d300 around his neck.

  • i ditched the dog before i went on the ice. she started getting too cold.

  • Brilliant pictures Dom, as usuual!

Just a quick question about HDR. Did those photos need editing much or was it just a case of overlaying the three photos with each other?

    Thanks

  • Absolutely wonderfull video... we have the same weahter in Denmark right about now!

    Nice shots you took!

  • Were in Denmark do you live? I live in Charlottenlund, Gentofte, Copenhagen and there is no snow at all:( But its coming on Tuesday

  • I live in Herning (midtjylland) and we have had snow the last 14 days!

  • Were all your photos HDR? The photos on the bridge were excellent, dom.
