  • Looks like I'll have to play this to get into college... fun =D

  • this tempo is perfect for the 4th part conducted by Paavo Järvi, like Kubelik did it.

  • Powerful song, I loved it

  • adoro esta obra.es tan misteriosa......mil gracias

  • Excellent, and Vladimir Putin does an excellent job of conducting.

  • Very nice!!!

  • ...the great talent of the age and... inner demons... affairs of the heart ... intellect... alcohol... laudanum... Clara and Brahms... instability... for love of the game... for love of the game...

  • *PERFECT* pace!

My soul is melting listening to this...it hurts how beautiful this is.

  • This is exceptional music. Listen to those chorale like choruses in the brass-it's awe inspiring. The NHK does a great service to the music. Thanks for posting!

  • I think this is exceptional and may it bring you peaceful dreams.

  • I had to check the score to see that the first trombone was playing that high E-flat and not just the horn. An amazing movement and what a great way to start it off.

  • @socaltrumpet83 Alto trombone?

  • This performance is truly exceptional in how the slower tempo brings out all the nuances of Schumann's wonderful writing. The NHK is a really fine orchestra.

  • The NHK Symphony Orchestra is really good they have the best recordings that I've ever heard.

  • bravo for trombone players and all orchestra.peace

  • I AWARD THIS 3 CLARAS...I like the originality of this concept as it somehow feels like a Sibelius tone poem-Norwegian summer dusk state of mind interpretation here.

Conversely I feel that the psychological and emotional spiritual intensity of the orchestra isn't up to this...as it comes across well and with beauty...but lacking depth(not in the conception, but in the execution.)I think the orchestra followed him obediently, but didn't like him or perhaps his concept.

  • wonderful! :) love this

but dont know why alto trombone players often slur up the tone to the high note (in the beginning), maybe because otherwise they wouldnt get this (really high) note? :D

  • The Eb isn't that high for a professional trombonist. You have part of the answer: It definitly helps to slur the note, but the players make the slur too loud.

  • I don't know who you're talking to, but to get that note in a performance and making sound that fluid and beautiful... that is extremely difficult. Just because you can squeak it out in practice with nobody listening doesn't mean you can nail it in a concert.

  • You have little control on the higher notes you don't want to play too high so they slur it to make sure they play the right note.

  • You have to consider that the 1st trombonist is tacet for the first three movements, and then must player uber high with beauty and delicacy. Thats hard for any trombonist.

  • esa nota es un mi b contraagudo (Eb)

    very high note

  • As JMR said, it does help to slur it. I don't know about what JMR said about it not being that high, though. I've certainly heard several professional players crack the Db in Bolero, and this is higher...However, since this is normally played on Alto, it should be a lot easier. It's not supposed to be slurred, I think it's just sort of a habit a few players picked up and then everyone started doing it. There's a recording of Alessi doing on here to. Friedman does it on his website.

  • Db is lower -.-

  • I meant this as in the Eb here, not the Db from Bolero.

  • Great work by Robert Alexander Schumann thanks for the video imoimo19891010

  • cool

    :)
