As old as this video is the female in a flight jacket is NOT aircrew. Just a intel lacky, that got issued a flight jacket cause she got to fly sometimes while on deployment. At this point in the game female aircrew were only in the VQ squadrons and the reserves...
The P-3 Orion has certain counter measures to defend itself from attack, but more likely it would have spotted any threat aircraft before they got into range and either called in air defense aircraft or departed the threat area. But if a Mig-29 or other threat fighter aircraft got to a P-3, it is bad news for the P-3. And probably time for the P-3 aircrew to tighten up their parachute straps and pull the rip cords.
@TJDOZIER1 Wrong. I got back from boot camp and my training officer worked on htese. He said that he saw a mig come up on htem- 2 migs actually- and they open bombay, lower flaps and gear, then they bank wings side to side like a wobble. That's what they did and the migs flew away.
@Shahen1999 Shahebe, You and your Camel could shoot this plane down with a 45 Cal Pistol! Of course, "Punk" My P-3 Again...Douche Bag. And the Harpoon missile will find your sorry ass! (Unsuspecting Target)
Hey there arcnsprk. As another OLDER SS1 operator (VP-40 Crew 6 19-70 to 1973), I too find it interesting to contemplate a female presence. Maybe things wouldn't have gotten as gonzo as they did back them with a softer gentler influence!
Sounds like maintenance got difficult after I left the canoe club!
I think those who go into the fire should be choosing who they go with, not politicians. When politicians butt into combat crews operations, people die. If you guys are OK with a female on your crew, then that should be how it is. There are many women who are as capable as the men they serve with. But, remember the little girl rescued from a hospital bed in Iraq, she was hiding under the covers when they found her. How many people were put at risk to save her? Then they tried to make her a hero.
@stebo222 Dittos Boss! (VP-5 1972-75). I mean...Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot. The PPC's DID NOT look like That...Then. Would have been better to look at her than some of the sorry ass E-6's (stuck in Neutral) wishing they could make CPO! Ouch@! I'm "kinda" saying "What?" a woman doing the Mission Brief? That canoe has left a LONG Time ago!
What the hell? A female in a flight jacket. As an old SS1 that could get some taking used to. Our head in flight was always a mess so maybe a little female prescense would help that situation. Of course that was in 74 and we weren't even integrated then. Ford / Congress wouldn't even fund us so after cannabilizing 3 planes only 9 were left to fly???? Lots of logged in flight incidents. Prepped with chute on to bail out once...this is NO drill. 3 shut down on her own with one feathered. BS
Yes the US Navy still operates the P3C model as the primary maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft. Greece should look into the C model as a replacement for the old B models or look into some up-grade packages for their existing B model service aircraft. Fly safe.
@jmorter
I was an IFT with beard back in the day - Flew Alphas, Bravo's, Super Bee's, UI, II, UII.5, and finally BMUPS....
