Even while watching this scene I didn't really expect Monk to die in the end, but I keep wondering, how is he going to survive being poisoned?

I agree. But I saw an interview with Tony about season 8 and a question was asked about Monk dying and Tony said that it won't happen.

Thank goodness, I hope that is the case! Anyway, we're sure of a good plot/script either way, it'll just be cruel to kill him.
