  • Comment removed

  • Seriously, who cares about boot time?

  • Too slow!! here boots in 15sec with gnome

  • Sweet CRT

  • my windows boots too. pretty cool huh?

  • lol man... my archlinux boots in 19 secs, using gnome desktop... KDE sucks as hell lmfao

  • nice case there toughguy it matches your music. both are trying to be as flamboyant as possible. in other words, LAMES.

  • i think arch still awful . But i must say that mkinitcpio really good thing.

Septagotius, freebsd still only server system.

I would be glad if some ideas arch linux and gentoo will be merge.

I'am realy sorry for my english.

  • ohh wow, your archi linux is booting. big deal.

  • Why are you using kde3? D:

  • I had a little trouble installing arch linux. Freebsd forever!

  • @WaffleEgo Your cookies, now mine.

  • jajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja

  • Nice, but why does it boot so slowly? o.O

  • nothing makes an immediately noticeable impact, (if any) other like a fresh hard drive!

i can boot damn small linux on a ssd in 5.32 seconds

i can boot ubunu 9.10 in 9.21 seconds

and i can boot windows 7 in 11.96 seconds

wit a 3 terabyte hard drive, made up by 6 500 gb solid state drives

  • @svfara13 im curious to know how fast ubuntu 10.04 would be. Its only 14 seconds on my laptop and i have a regular HDD.

  • Arch> windows7>Vista> OSX> XP>98>95

(Measured in number of times I have banged my head against the wall over each of them)

  • you can boot arch super fast if you disable all of the daemons xD

  • @itsbrad212 you need alot of them!

  • @WeedingWaimbow Not many. You can *boot* without any of them. I just have hal, alsa, and slim :D

  • @itsbrad212 I know you need those but make a script when you startx that it starts all your daemons like mpd and stuff..

  • @WeedingWaimbow .xinitrc and rc.local can do both of those. rc.local starts after the daemons and kernel modules have been loaded, while .xinitrc starts when you run startx, or if you use a login manager (e.g. gdm kdm slim), the login starts directly from .xinitrc, assuming you want to run startx

  • geez who cares about boot time. i hardly ever shutdown my linux computers.

  • What the fuck do you have in this poor linux? The boot time is awful :3

  • And "what the fuck do you have in your poor windows"?

Boot time is from GRUB to Login screen.

  • 1. I'm not using windows.

    2. Arch Linux rocks.

    3. I know how boot time's counted.

    4. Your boot tiem sucks. -- 36 secs.

My arch boots in 27 secs, and that's much too, but man...

Also icons suck(if i see correctly then KDE sucks.)

    YOU SUCK.

  • thats funny my windows 7 boots in 12 seconds, and arch boots in 17 seconds for me.

  • lmfao dude slerinjsh is right this boot time for arch is awful it shouldn't take that long for arch to boot

  • @sierinjsh The title says Arch Linux, and I would rather have an ok boot time and an incredibly fast system than a fast boot time and a sluggish system. Greatness takes time.

  • LOL, I'm not the only one using M2A-VM ;-D

  • Haha, cheapskate =P

Seriously, i've heard things about that just refusing to work like a week after it's been bought new. And no cooling on the SouthBridge? No thanks =)

  • Man, get a decent monitor, they are dirt cheap now :)

I got X243HQ (24" fullhd) from Acer, for around 170$. Its really worth it, it would drastically expand your working space. Compiz @ 1920 is really worth seeing!

  • so why do you feel the need to tell us that you bought a new monitor ?

  • So, you are informed and can get it too. They save up desk space, I had 19" LG F900P before, its very good monitor, 1280x1024, but its weight(20kg) and power consumtion(120W) are not very shiny. Thing that I mentioned before eats 35w, 2kg, fullhd, dvi, sharp geometry. Its just worth the money. (Still want them to be 100$ or lower hehe)

  • OK :). BTW I have a 19" LCD Monitor too. I payed ~50 Euros for it (it's new). I agree it's lighter, i wastes less power ...

  • Artist & Name of the Song: Drowning Pool - Killin' Me

  • I want to know name of the song as well...

  • If my computer were as good as yours I would put Linux, but my computer can only handle Windows 98. My processor does not have enough megabytes or something.

  • lol search around you mind find some awesome info on the internets

  • Use Arch with XFCE or *box environiments. Would give 50-90 Mb total RAM requirement(without swap, you can swap this too).

  • All the more reason to use Linux.

  • DSL can easily handle a windows 98 comp.

It's quite nice, I use it for reviving boxes, and getting data off of the hard drives of old PC's that don't turn on (BSOD hardware failures ect.)

There are people I know that use DSL as their main OS, and that's what it was mainly built for, a full desktop OS optimized for low spec computers. :)

  • Stop trolling man, I'm not a dumbass.

  • fuck you, go back to 4chan, you're a terrible troll.

  • lulz Win!

  • @coilgunner2

    Lol kid mad

  • You sir. are a fucking retard. KThnxBai

  • Go use Windows 98 then! :) Good luck with an unsupported system and have fun conquering those viruses and Trojans as soon as you get online. LOL@more features too.. wow, guess I shouldn't feed the trolls. I have to break that habit.

  • I agree!!! Bsod... Interesting feature... xD

  • I used an old laptop for over one and a half year - Pentium I 233mhz, 48mb, \wo CD. It came \w in98 preinstalled, since I'm kinda lazy I tried to use it: No useable Software anymore (anything new requires win NT), a lot of crashes and whats worst: no unix shell environment (Cygwin can't replace it). Finally the OS died after three weeks - the registry got lost overnight. I nuked the HD and installed Gentoo (with a little help from my PC) - THAT rendered this brick really useful!

  • whats the name of this song?

  • fuck yeah arch FTW!! i'll post a vid or mine sometime.. like 20 some seconds to the desktop :)
