DON'T DO THIS, 3 red rings are there for a reason and you will kill your Xbox, is a temp fix only, Let me explain when the 3 red rings are flashing your CPU/GPU are working and start to heat up, at 160+ the on board chip sensor shuts down the power to the CPU/GPU chips and the system resets after it cools, But as your system was heating from lack of fans/cooling so was everything else you have very heat sensitive Capacitors next to CPU/GPU and they are only rated to 105 degrees U will fry them.

You people are retarded.. the towel 'trick' screws your xbox360 even more. It only lets the sensors kick the xbox360 out for a while and you risk frying your 360. Get informed, people.

@razzorwanted Unmount the xbox piece by piece until you have the mainboard with the two black X's in front of you. The problem is that the overheating caused the glue to sublimate slightly from the bearings. You carefully remove the X, put some decent glue on it and glue it back firmly and carefully to the mainboard. Your RROD should be permanently fixed now. The xbox360 is only complaining because it's not operating safely anymore. It's a built-in feature.

@razzorwanted Option number two (like I did) is send your xbox back to the MS repair center where they will decide whether or not your xbox can be repaired. If it can't be repaired, they'll send you (someone else's) console back that they fixed. If your xbox is out of warranty: costs you $90 (don't forget the $10 for mailing). If it's not: free.

@razzorwanted The 80 euro investment is worth the fixed xbox360 as opposed to the towel trick which will screw your xbox360 over time. The xbox repair center is not really far from you. It's in Poland. A new xbox costs far more than 80 or 90 euros. Besides, you get a permanently fixed xbox (possibly).

This is sooo fucking stupid. Nobody do this, it may work but it's the wrong thing to do. All you need to do is take your xbox 360 apart and clean out the dust. You can use an air compressor thats what I do. Do not use air duster. Blow all the dust out and take the fans out and wipe the dust off with some paper towels and put it back together. And not only will you get to play but you will get to play longer that 5 days. You can play up to a year or longer.

Do you people realize that anytime you do this trick, you are essentially melting your GPU, CPU, and Hana chip? This is the worst trick in the book! It's better to take it apart, remove the X-Clamp, reflow the board, then put new thermal paste down and re-assemble.

The actual problem is that Microsoft didnt want to spend the money for an extra fan in the xbox. Therefore the top is cool but the bottom gets too hot, so the motherboard sinks. This "towel method" only really temporarily lifts it up.
