I like Billie Holiday. I really do but her life story is so fucked up. Like completely fucked up. We're studying this in class and It's truly awful. Some of her choices in life bother me. But nonetheless her music is good.

I hear you. I always preferred Ella Fitzgerald. Not only for her voice, but - I may say especially - because of how she was able to react to basically the same environment (not too many know that Ella has well had a way less then picture perfect childhood. Maybe because Ella was not as beautiful as Billie, but she seems to have been able to better withstand the crush of life and notoriety.

Unfortunately those days are gone now. Today it's all about dressing provocatively and making a fool out of yourself. It's not about the music anymore and it's a shame! The industry should be called the "entertainment industry" and not the music industry because music isn't important. I miss the real, raw vocal talent that Lady Day and other singers in the past exemplifed. Class, sophistication, and grace has flown out the window. It's not what the majority of people want today.
