  • "Until you've kissed and had to pay the cost, until you flipped your heart and you have lost.."

    No kiddin'.

  • oh Lady Day <3

  • I like Billie Holiday. I really do but her life story is so fucked up. Like completely fucked up. We're studying this in class and It's truly awful. Some of her choices in life bother me. But nonetheless her music is good.

  • Timless and Amazing. Thanks for this wonderful post.

  • Good song

  • I'm crying too.......great great Billie!

  • The Great Ray Ellis And His Orchestra Blessed By God As Billies Last Album Recorded in 1959 Simply Beautiful.!!!

  • 12 idiots don't don't know what real music is

  • Amen Dear Billy...for love that Cannot Live but never dies. Bless you for putting the thought into such beautiful words.

  • Nice. Although I adore Chet Baker's version more.

  • @rusrita

For me, Billie's is the definitive version. Chet's is lovely but Billie takes it to another level altogether. All others sound pale in comparison.

  • 12 people don't know the meaning of the blues...

  • Wow.................a song from the heart!

  • It seems nobody knew what love is better than Holiday... and what and where music is.

  • Style, grace, class an era gone but not forgotten.Too bad todays singers don't dress like the ladies and gentlemen did in the 40's and 50's,they wore a suit and a tie ,the ladies wore a classy gown with jewels and Lady Day wore that wonderful orchid in her hair.

  • @trendy188

Unfortunately those days are gone now. Today it's all about dressing provocatively and making a fool out of yourself. It's not about the music anymore and it's a shame! The industry should be called the "entertainment industry" and not the music industry because music isn't important. I miss the real, raw vocal talent that Lady Day and other singers in the past exemplifed. Class, sophistication, and grace has flown out the window. It's not what the majority of people want today.

  • @MusicLoverBrian1

indeed...who, and where are you, and why weren't you born as my brother. ^_^

  • @MusicLoverBrian1

Thank you for your opinion, Briam !

  • she inspires me

    New Orleans,LA

  • Ive listened to others sing this but to me her emotion behind her voice gives this song life. No singer in my opinion can sing with that type of emotion.

  • i'm scared to listen to billy holiday. if you've got the blues or not, these songs put you in a state.

  • @kerron68 ya think? ;)

  • @kerron68 Too true. She exudes a despair that saddens the soul.

  • PRECIOSA CANCION, INCREIBLE MELANCOLIA EN LA VOZ DE BILLIE HOLIDAY, QUE HOY HUBIESE CUMPLIDO 96 AÑOS, SIN ENTENDER EL IDIOMA, EL SENTIMIENTO DE TRISTEZA QUE TRASMITE ME HACE COMPRENDER QUE LA MUSICA ES UNIVERSAL A TRAVES DE ARTISTAS, GENTE ESPECIAL QUE POSEE EL DON QUE DIOS LES ENTREGA PARA ABRAZARNOS. HERMOSO TU VIDEO, MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!

  • A most expressive video. Thanks for choosing Billie.

  • This one makes me chock up... damn sad...

  • La grande classe , merci Billie

  • 007: So, Dr. Cliche.. We meet again..

Dr. Cliche: Yes... You thought you killed me.. BUT IT IS I! Who will kill YOU! Mr. Bond.

This is what i'm imagining in my head, when I listen to this song. Sean Connery, Bond. Not any other Bond.

  • omg what a f*cking song well done <3

  • la mas grande cantante de todos los tiempos

  • The greatest female singer ever. I love her so much...

  • @AMARS11663 Hi there amars, the song is called "the very thought of you",thanks, steve

  • @SUNSHINEandSPIRIT hello, thanks Steve.........this song is wonderfull..........i found it, and i heard..IT........

  • @AMARS11663 "The Very Thought Of You"

  • @smashkode83 thanks friend.....i found and i heard it.

  • @AMARS11663 The song played in "Forever Young" is "The Very Thought of You."

  • "Lady In Satin", Miss Billie's 1958 album, was my introduction at age 12, to one of the finest artists of any generation. For a 12 year old to feel this song as I did, it was only possible because of an artist who not only lived and felt what she sang but had a most special way to reach into your heart and make you feel it too. God bless, Miss Billie, you've been in my heart all these many years.

  • Dear God that was beautiful. The Lady never fails to touch my soul and brake my heart all at the same time.

  • 5 people Don't know what love is ! Because if they didnt feel what she was saying and the pain in her voice something is really wrong with them .

  • Holy... Moly...LAK

  • Shattering... the voice is almost gone, the soul and the musicianship have never been better.

One of my two favorite tracks from this LP.

    Shattering.

  • Thank you very much, is one of the best performances of Lady Day

  • "Lady in Satin" if you are a Billie Fan, it all comes to this album. Embrace it, Fall into it, Let your heart bleed and soar

  • Wonderful song!great lyrics and voice full of emotion. It is a great song of love. You don't know what love is:many people just don't know what love is even today in 2010.They are attracted by gorgeous ladies but don't love them, just use them and let them down like cigarettes...

  • This is the final record; Billie is within a year of her death - phrasing and timbre are better judged on earlier material; those who know and love BH are moved by the poignancy of this final offering - what might have been...

  • strange how all our tastes differ .. i so want to like her but it just dosent do it for me.

seems spoken but with a bit of wobble.

    sorry musics good though

  • @whorlicks You don't listen to Billie you feel her singing.

  • @whorlicks

Try it again another day. I use to think the same. I just wasn't feeling it. Now - I can't imagine my mindset at that time. She had a voice that was not mimicking of others. One that could not be mimicked. One that had depth. One of all types of emothions. Visit her another day.

  • Takes my breath away!

  • Wow this is the bomb!

  • just great!

  • loving feels good....if you can't love....that's sad....i wish i could help...it fills me with pity

  • Her voice is soo emotional! It always touches me and makes me feel the song!!!

  • @CherryBlossomLulu

That's what Billie Holiday does . . . her voice pierces through your heart and into your soul and it produces so much emotions out of you. Listen to her whole album "Lady In Satin"--her voice is like rough sandpaper yet it's like pure gold.

  • thanks

  • she makes me cry

  • until you LUUUUUve the one you had to lose.....Until youve flipped your heart and you have lost....lose the taste of kissing....Universal truths .....Sweet ....bittersweet . when I listen know it is like listening to an old sagewoman giving a lecture...This should be part of all schoos songbook just 2 pages from Yankee doodle Dandy...

I am on my way to purchase the CD Now......

  • @1319second3771 agreeeeeeeeeee! utterly sensational.

  • It is an honor to listen to her.

That's what I call an aching love song.

Where have all the good songs gone???????????

  • gorgeous.

  • Je trouve qu'on entend toute son âme pleine de déceptions, de chagrin et de tristesse. Ce chagrin a même détruit sa voix. Mais elle interprète avec son coeur, c'est vrai. I love her.

  • she sings the songs, as she feels them, she puts her heart and soul, in to telling the story, beautiful

  • Forget the drugs, the myths and all the bullshit that followed Miss Billie's life. She could sing, and she could phrase and it all came from her heart. When "Lady In Satin" was recorded, everyone thought she had lost her voice. But Billie NEVER lost her ability to sing a song in a way that touched your heart and soul. Let's stop guessing about the personal and just sit and listen to Miss Ladie Day tell it whatever way she did best. Miss Billie, no one ever came close to you for that.

  • Precioso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When ever billie and ella put out a version of a song it was always better than the rest

  • I love Billie Holiday, but for this song I personally prefer the Chet Baker's performance. It's of course just a matter of different taste.

  • Sorry Mr. Lopez, but nothing comes close to this searing version. There are many fine recordings of this tune, including Anne's, but no one has ever given it the raw emotion or brutal honesty that Billie did, before or since.

  • I was speaking in terms of over-all arrangement and vocals. With regard to emotion, Billie's is the better. I should have clarified, billiefan. sorry. :)

  • luv it

  • "Lips that tasted tears, lose their taste for kissing...."

    :*(

  • "until youve faced each dawn with sleepless eyes" Such a beautiful quote. my mind soul and heart was on one accord for a change and they all agreed.

  • She sings with her soul that hurts ... Billie, we remember you, we love you..RIP.

  • I'm just crying, hearing this voice, and all about the love that is lost... uhu..

    Octavia, Norway

  • @hedlov me too pal

  • until you've faced a dawn with sleepless eyes

    What a voice ! xx

  • Inconfundivel voz!!!

  • damn Im crying to this... Rest in peace Lady Blues

  • Aka, "Lady Day"

  • it's like maybe you don't want to know how much she hurts. Is she a great singer? yes. but it's like a searing burn. open, honest humanity. not for the feint of heart.

  • beautiful song

  • Dear, dear Billie Holiday what a delightful soul that just keeps giving even though she left this earth plane. Remember: Universal language is LOVE + UNCONDITIONAL LOVE the ultimate + answer to our chaos. Blues, take you to the place where we are all trying to go, to the "Uplifting of our awakening inner-selves." Blues will do that for you.: -) Wish I could have met her on this earth plane, to tell her what she means to us even years after she left this place to go back Home. LOVE YOU BILLIE.:)

  • lovely... i feel the same, or ive lived a past life and that was my time cos it just blows me away when i hear Billie and Ella! They are 'out of this word'.
