In my opinion R.E.M's is pretty shit compared to this one, and I heard that one YEARS before I heard this cover. The original sounds like rejected music for the Friends Intro. I honestly feel the passion and what the song stands for and the meaning through Cory's voice. It's beautiful, and it sounds like it should sound. There was so much potential to be inspiring and powerful in the original, but the whole performance was so flat. Just my opinion...
Michael Stipe sings it with such soul. And his voice is way more distinctive than whoever sings this version. Oh well, REM are laughing all the way to the bank.
Not directed at anyone, but everyone has their opinion regardless if they're a Gleek or hate the show with all their might.. music is music associated with an over-popularized show or not. Just listen to the music. JUST the music and maybe you'll appreciate it a little more. If not, that's cool too. But every song deserves a fair chance because there's meaning behind every note.

I'm an REM fan, and as an REM fan, I would say this is the best cover of this song I have ever heard. Cory did a very good job in recreating the song without loosing the touch the original has on me.
@Braly5 Try listening to the Ryan Star cover from Rockstar Supernova (It's in the recommendations). That one I would say keeps the feel while making it his own. I would say it is much better.
