  • great

  • I love Brendan's Rainman impression starting at 2:18

  • lucy randall.........awesome!

  • I thank Christian Hedwitschak (bodhran maker) for pointing out this video.

    A great performance.

  • a real master!!! i hv attended his preformance last night in hongkong.. wwow.. wonderful!!

he can play all kind of music, and i can feel his love to music and harmonica.

so dynamic, creative, willing to share, smart, kind.. talented of cuz.

although i know nothing about harmonica, but deadly admire his passion on creating his own music and instrument.

  • I love him. He came to my university today, and everyone was BLOWN away by him.

  • Amazing control . I think this is a Gypsy no from Europe (central) . It has lot of resemblance to our Rajasthani folk music. We all are now waiting to meet Brandan Power . Welcome to Brandon.

  • @dileepnaik He visited Guwahati somedays back... This was one of his few nos he played here. Blew me outta my mind!

  • Sehr gut, vielen Dank

  • Thank you for the very nice music.

  • Yes brendan,what a sound!!!really really nice....

    Laurent

  • Wonderfull! What kind of harmonica do you play and in what tune? Thank you from Spain and sorry for my horrible english ;-)

  • Playing music like this with a woman must be the next most intimate thing to making love. Absolutely amazing.

  • А бе, много хубаво ! Да сте живи и здрави !

  • They're both at the top of what they do, incredibly talented!!

  • Whew! Very nice!

  • I sometimes wonder how people can dislike such music. Even if it is not everyone´s cup of tea, one should still be able to see great people, playing awesome music, and achieving something incredible. Maybe the ones who give thumbs-down are simply frustrated, envious, lonely people. It is not necessary to have the same skill to simply appreciate the beauty. What would the world be without magnificient music?

  • @RupidFlappo Ab-so-freakin'-LUTE-ly!!! We don't have to worry about them, hopefully. There is enough out there for everyone to be happy and not put down real talent they happen to disagree with, and those that aren't and/or can't need professional help. This is happy music. Happily shared. Happily discovered. Hapless are those disagreeing, because they are probably happy only when complaining.

  • @RupidFlappo might as well ask why do some people like the colour red and some yellow, why do some people love cheese and some hate it. Its a matter of taste. To my taste this is beautiful

  • Close your eyes, and it seems like Lucy is surrounded by a complicated set of drums. Open your eyes and marvel that its just a single 12" bodhran and a puny little stick. She's like a wizard.

  • sometimes i dream in 7's

  • Awsome, love it.

  • Brendan Power is the man, love his style of playing, I would love to do a duet with him, I think he would love my bodhran playing in the same way as matt molloy did and his sone peter, if you are listening Brendan then come on back and reply.

  • it's amazing to think this guy was going into the priesthood!!!!! then he heard Sonny Terry play the harmonica..................Thank you Sonny!

  • WOW!

  • amazing lost 4 words 2 say how good this is A1111111111111111111

  • unreal, the two of them.

  • Insanely amazing and masterful.....deeeeep bows from India...

  • they r both awesome

  • Great performance of Bulgarian music!

    Reminds me of home

    Thanks

  • Beauftiful!

  • Beautiful sound, extraordinary skill both on the harp and the bodhran.

I would love to know who made that drum for her - such a melodic sound!

  • I like Lucy's relaxed style with her tipper hand. She clearly shows that bodhran players don't need to be giving themselves Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with wild wrist gyrations.

  • What a surprise! Bulgarian folk music - played so inspired and inovative by a westerner! Thank You, Brendan! :)

  • Wow. Just brilliant.

    Faved.

  • wow. Oh WOW. Great stuff Brendan and Lucy!

  • I flagged this video

    as awesome

  • thannk u for your music from your brazilian fan....

  • love it....im guessing there some sort of diaphram in the back of that drum to change the depth of the sound.

  • @joce3515

It is called a bodhran. The player presses their hand up against the inside of the drum head (typically made of goat skin) to change the pitch. Various shapes of the hands will evoke different changes in pitch. Lucy Randall is a true pro at doing this. I should know, I've been trying to do what she does for years now...

  • I listen to these haunting lilting tunes every time i feel the need for a lift, Brendan has lungs like bellows and gets an amazing sound out of that harp Thanks for posting

  • Fabulous piece of music .... awesome playing!

We have added it to a couple playlists

  • That is amayzing

  • yeah this really is nasty I love candyrat

  • YEAH!! AMAZING!!!

  • Fantastic music. What kind of drum is that?

  • It's a bodhrán! a traditional irish instrument

  • This Is SICK!!! Great job... I havn't seen really talented playing like that in a very long time.

  • greetings from istanbul ;)

  • Awesome awesome awesome, and is it my imagination, or has Joni Mitchell time traveled from circa-1969 to perform with this guy. I always suspected she'd mastered space, time and dimension.

  • very intresting

  • wondrous

  • This just made my day!

    :-)

  • This guy is awesome!! Luv him!

  • Este SEÑOR es una excepción!

Me atrevo a decir que es el mejor!

  • great!

  • whats bulgarity? there is no defination of such. argh.

  • Brendan invented the term but the music type is bulgarian gypsy music.

  • Beatiful...

Can anyone name the lady on percussion??

  • it says it right at the beginning of the video....

  • It says at the beginning of the video(: lol

  • lol... are you def?

there is her name on the description and in the end of video.

btw, her name is: Lucy Randall

  • Erm... I normally rate sarcasm as "high end" comedy; but in this case, being currently resident in the Middle East and paying a fortune for a broad band connection which is much slower than dial-up in UK, my YouTube video' reception is ridiculously slow and fragmented at best, and I often miss parts of the vid (usually the beginning).... which is frustrating, not amusing. Sorry! (lol)

  • Comment removed

  • almost bulgarian :)))))) hehe,God bless you!

  • Very Good This is Very nice

  • Bulgarian music :)

  • Fantastic!!! I love it! So Amasing!!! :)

  • i love that drum..

  • This is just so wonderful.

  • Respectful. Never heard Bulgarian music performed that amazing way. Thank you!

  • hi i think its a 15" drum looks very simular to mine, i play a 15" aiden mc rory drum its quite deep like the one in the video, so get lovely deep tones,

  • does anybody know an approximate size of the bodhran

  • 92867492836509476343798659374653 cm3

  • it´s a 15" ;o)

    C.

  • hahahahaha good childhood memories :P i love all these videos from rpoland

  • sounds egyptian...

    unique, in most aspects.

  • probably there best work todate! love the sounds and love the way it really can bring out an old timey feel for the old country..did that make sence?

  • Great music, and the drumming is incredibly melodic! Can't compliment Lucy and Brendan enough for their sublime artistry.

  • To any of you runescape nerds... I can picture myself walking through Al Kharid while this plays.

  • this music is so great! I can pictures myself being the camel!

  • and stupid as that sounds that is kind of true...in a good way of corse..but why are people placeing down marks? lol

  • tee-hee old memories

    Nerd.

    Just kidding :D

  • Go Bulgaria !!! :D

  • Incredible! So good!

  • Impresionante técnica Brendan!.

Bodhram and Armonica teamed sooooo good!

Wich armonica is he playin'? could anyone tell us?

  • He's probably playing a Suzuki SCX Chromatix, search Suzuki harmonicas on youtube you get a load of videos of him playing them...

  • it kinda reminds me of arabic music lol

  • *************** all . k

  • Muito bom, Very Good....

  • I LOVE this!!! Bodhran is just perfect...not too much or too little...fantastic sound....flawless technique...: )

  • drum solo!

  • that timing is so so good!!

  • Gypsy music. I love it!

  • Yeah man! what a duo. very nice timbre!

/ Filip Jers - Diatonic and Chromatic Harmonicaplayer

  • very nice.... I have never heard of this type of music but I like it!!

  • anyone know what type of harp he's playin?

  • It's a harmonica I think. Dunno if it's any particular kind.

  • an amazing kind, thats what.

  • Suzuki Chromatic. I think it's either the F-48S or the F-64C.

  • That would be a Chromatic Harmonica.

They are special as they allow the player to shift scales at the press of a button usually on the side of the instrument(see right hand).

Funny thing is that in all of this is that the Bodran seems humble in contrast to the chromatic. However... they are very difficult instruments to play, and Lucy does it like she was born with one in her hand.

    Amazing duo!

  • Great playing here as usual Lucy :-)-

I so like your relaxed style...

    Brendan is amazing also...

    Greetz

  • usual? AS USUAL? This ain't usual, . . . i ain't NEVER heard nothing like, . . . this is slammin', man. Phil G.

  • It sure is... Lucy is and has been in my top 5 players list for some years now...

  • I can see why, she makes it look so easy.

  • chauuuuuuu q viaaaajee q bueno q esta!!

  • Hi Brendan, I heard you 18 years ago when you played with Gary Verberne in Hamilton. The music you played then still rings in my ears. I hear you are coming back to NZ to play in Hamilton. Look forward to hearing you again. Vish

  • Bloody marvellous!

  • Lucy your playing is exquisite. Brendan as usual excellent.

  • I'd love to have a jam session with you guys. If only I played something compatible. I only sing. :P

  • Thank you so much. I woule lika to know the name of the lady.

    Please,help.

  • Maybe Lucy Randall?

  • what kind of percussion is that?

  • Clue's in the info... it's a Bodhran

  • oh thanks hehe saw it but I didn't thought that was it's name

  • what's the name of the percussion?

  • what kind of hard is that

  • That was incredible. Lucy is the bomb. She can beat my drum anytime...mondo respect for both musicians

  • I..I know I'm blown away by the talent and interplay, but i'm having real trouble deciding who to be more impressed by....they are both gifted.

  • bravissimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic :D its great to hear such great performance of our national rhythms ! Many congrats from Bulgaria : )

  • Absolutely awesome. Great top End playing Lucy and an fabulous harmonica Brendan. Hope I will see you one time on stage.

  • great playing - great memories of seeing this live- he also plays on the Wayne Gillespie video -Livinmg in Exile

  • Master musicians with a masterful arrangement.

  • I can certainly understand why Andy Irvine is such a fan of this kind of music. 5 stars

    Outstanding performance, both of you.

  • what the heck is that drum thing?

  • Bodhran! from Ireland I believe (:

  • Hi, the drum is called Tupan its Bulgarian, the whole song is in traditional Bulgarian rhythm not Irish. The Tupan is wrilly close to Bodhran, and we also have pipes as the Irish, but the way we use our so similar instruments is amazingly different. I think Brendan Power captured that in astonishing way in this song : )

  • lol

    That's no Tupan

  • It's a space station!

  • The drum does sound remarkably like a bodhran but there are subtle differences in the overall sound and makeup of the drum. I can get most of those sounds out of my bodhran but a few of them sre slightly out of range for it due to head size and tuning. Kudo's to both fantastic musicians and great to see Brendan again. Lucy definitely has done her time for percussion and is very very sharp indeed.

  • Absolutely fabulous!

  • Top knotch!

  • Lucy Randall beautyfully played

  • Spellbinding. I didn't know a harmonica could sound as beautiful as that.

  • totally sweet and soulful with a nice energy

  • this is amazing. it sort of had me in a little trance......?! weired?. really cool.

    thanks for sharing

  • more like sweet bulgarian sounding music... When people think of the harmonica they think blues or folk ...this sounds foreign... very very good. 5 stars

  • i want a bodhran

  • This is just amazing, I can only hope I can play the bodhran that well some day.

  • Thats like the first time I ever heard an epic harmonica. Holy shit 0_0 10/10

  • Great song. Both instruments sound good, none is above the other.

  • Great sound, I'll have to research some time how to play a bodhrán like that..

  • aaawesome!

  • Excellent !!!

I don't Know why, but sometimes It's song oriental.

  • what's that drum

  • This is called a Bodhran

  • i planned on watching something else when i realized it wasn't guitar, but after they got a little bit into the song i couldn't bring myself to leave.

  • Wow, is that really a drum? I never knew a drum could sound like that. Both of them are just amazing.

  • incredible piece. the drum break is absolutely beautiful.

  • Wow

  • wow im quite suprised it sounds quite full, considering its just two of them nd what they are palying.i thought it might feel a bit thin. i love it.

  • i like the little "yea" at 2:47

    This is really cool too

  • Awsome!!

I just can't stop listen to that ;]

  • hype. Absolutely Hype.

    gave me chills.

  • i know what you mean ey, was dancing in my seat lol

  • both were great, but percussion surprised me a lot, congratulations!

  • what's bulgarity?

  • it means where it comes from "bulgaria"

  • ah ok thnx

  • cool

  • Gorgeous! and I hated harmonicas time ago...

  • Loved it! so glad I suscribed! :)

  • Is this Arabic ..Sounds very arabic to me ...not that that's a bad thing..Interesting music is all I'm saying.

  • Typical Balkanic music, its more aggressive than Arabic.

  • Right! Just look for a song performed by young balkan gipsies (harmonica) in a ex-Yu film "Ko to tamo peva" or "Who is it singin there".The film tracks accidents of passengers in a bus towards Belgrade. Behind all that stands a deep alegory about Yougoslavia falling apart and the 2nd World War beggining. In the film performers were falsly accused for stealing. The song expresses sorrow - predicts the terrible war...

  • This is Bulgarian national music! Wonderful played! Greetings from Bulgaria!

  • Really awsome, great to hear different sounds, plus I like how it has a little ambient feel to it. And like nchune said, that's a really tasty drumsolo.

  • Sounds to me like an Incubus song. I like it!

  • this is refreshing music

  • I would sure like to see what is going on the other side of that drum.

    Awesome, Both of you!!!

  • Awsome, Lucy! One of my favourites...Thanks so much.

  • Awesome. I never thought I'd hear a harmonica be so versatile. The title is very fitting as well.

My only criticism is that the drum solo is a little long and awkward.

  • that was a tasty solo, in form of the tune

the tune is in 7/4 not 4/4
