  • How did you put this directly to the computer?

  • OOOOHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want the settings of that U2 thing you are playing there. Is it a pre-set.

I have tried to create it but did not get as far as you did.

    Briljant.

  • Yeah, yeah!!!!! Digitech comes through again.

BUT!!!!!!!!! I think that the GSP2101 was one of their best.

Check out my video to judje yourself: Patrick Class - The Sign

  • yeah" I will have to agree with your claim of the JMP-1 is better!. I sold my 2120. was great", but more than I need with affects and all. I run my Rocktron pirahna into a Marshall 9200 power amp(picked up another). The two best preamps I've owned are JMP-1 and Pirahna.I like the Pirahna better though because I can Dial that Classic Marshall tones, but also get a thick darker distortions like a Mesa/Boogie.Extremely versatile and very warm powerful and more Dynamics!

  • Did you listen to the Digitech GSP2101 vid via Droid X cell here on YT?.sounds real good but has some prossesed sound probably do to the SS poweramp. He does have the EQ"ing down good but needs a tube power amp to get that organic full tone.good vid though" showing what these2101-2120"s can do.

  • Its interesting how listening to this through the headphones,I can hear the ping pong and delays panning left and right".

  • Yeah the JMP-1 is good but I only used maybe a couple distortion sounds. It was the 1rst best preamp I owned.I had a plexi reissue,an 800 and my JMP-1-9200-JFX-1 setup.Side by side comparison in my living room.with all my friends there", the JMP-1 and poweramp setup is the big winner "EASILY". I can Copy that EXACT tone that the jmp-1 does. Its in the midrange. I still prize my Pirahna as the best" but the 2120 has such a wide range of configuring and effects,I just cant ever see getting rid of it

  • You could try searching for a case on ebay. Just make sure it is a 3 space rack, unless you plan buying another rack (generally, new processor take 2 spaces on a rack). You could try the Gator Rackbag: GR-RACKBAG-3U

There is another one which has wheels! Hope this helps!

  • I had a Marshall 9200. regret selling it!! Make you sterile??.. You are 1000% correct!! I got a 2120 and have to say this thing is "THE SHIT" as far as What is the best preamp out there!. I have other Pre"s...JMP-1,MP-1,GFX-1,Pirahna,have owned and played others,But this one tops them all!. I wish Digitech would make an high end all tube poweramp to match. till then, going to have to settle for another Marshall or?. "Gotta have Tubes!". Velocity 300? never tried one yet.

  • Hi! Yeah, it´s a great unit! I´ve never seen a unit like that with so many parameters. I also have a JMP-1 preamp, but sincerelly, i think JMP-1 distortion is s better than 2120. It feels like the distortion will crack your speakers!

  • I have the previous model and like it alot however the clean doesn't sound quite as good as this 2120 unit... YT has a video on a mod to upgrade it. One can even flip flop tubes upgrade them too... Yeah the fact prest souunds suck but when you get it right it's magic! I use a Marshall dual mono bloc amp into two marshall 412 1960a slant cabs miced into two new Cervin Vega dual 15s /horns 2000watt PA speakers... could make u sterile... LOL

  • @flyzerogravity

Haha! I know what you mean! I use it with a Marshall EL34 100/100 power beast and a Carvin C412B2... My neighbors really hate me!!

  • would you share your presets ? :)

  • @DrownInGrace88

Hi, I would do it man, but i don´t have a MIDI soundcard to upload them to my PC... I could transcribe them to a text page instead. Are you interested in any one in particular?

  • @guillespiers I'm Interested In The Metal Sounds.I Have It For 6 Years & Can't Figure It Out.Great pre-Amp. I Just leave It On 1 Channel.. I Need To Get Into The 31 Band EQ.. No One I Know Uses Racks Any More.Just Heads. I also Have A LANEY AOR 100 PRO TUBE LEAD HEAD From 1989.Bought It New.$980.00 & Worth Every Penny.I Just Put New Tubes In It Last Year For The First Time & Only Played On It 3 Times Since.I Really Need To learn How To Get Into This Pre-Amp.How long You Have It.

  • @guillespiers Midi Soundcards Are Very Cheep.. I Might Have 1 Around..If I Send It To You Would You Copy Every Thing To It & Send It Back To Me.. Much Appreachated From A Musician.. Trying To Learn How To Operate This Unit..!! Very Awesome Though.. I Love It..!! It Rock's The House..!! I'm Running A MosValve Tube Works Power Amp.. 80 Watt Per Channel.. I Run It Stereo,,For The Ultimate Sound..!!

  • Just got one of these the other day. "I LOVE IT"!! ANY TONE you can imagine!. And REAL tube tone Too! Had a problem at first were I had to keep reinitializing to start up(boy was I not happy",wondedring whats going on??) A battery(#CR2032)from walmart was the fix!!. This thing is an ass Kicker!! Unbelievable tones and distortions. Deffinately "TOP NOTCH"

  • @dewycatt2112

Yeah! It´s a great unit, very very versatile. I love that you can save your own type of presets, preamps, and eq´s. Once you got them all, it´s very easy and fast to create any preset you want!

  • you can get these on EBAY" I was bidding on few days back.good condition etc..Got up to $250 and quit bidding.found one direct from guitar center online used gear". A complete in the box(used)but in brand new prestine condition with everything including foot controler-manual-cord etc... $315 include ship....the one I was bidding on ebay is just for the preamp alone".It is still on there and over $300...I scored a great deal!! guitar center has some great deals online used gear! got a GFX-1=$70!!

  • sounds great man! what is your 2120 connected to(cabinet)?

  • @dewycatt2112

When I recorded this video, i used a Crate 212 Combo Amp. But the sound was not recorded through the amp. The Digitech´s main outputs where connected to a Line 6 UX1 interface line input, in stereo. The sound through an amp, or a power amp with a cabinet, would be MUCH MUCH BETTER!

  • Mate, you'vecompletely sold me on these! A friend of mine uses the 2112, and told me these are worth finding as they're tonal very sound, and have great versatility.

But it's this video mate, the fact that you've managed to make a decent review of the sounds that can be created, especially by using such great musical examples: Pantera's Floods, Steve Vai's La Ballerina, and Emperor's The Oath.

Excellent video mate, I'll post a response video once it's arrived.

  • @bentay293

Thanks a lot mate! It´s a very versatile unit! When you buy it, don´t rely on the factory preset´s, they sound horrible!! The unit needs lots of Eq to sound right. For that, you have 1 ten band eq before the noise gate, and a 15 or 30 band eq after. The 10 and 15 band eq´s would do very well on each user preset you create! The unit also has a global eq, which will affect all your presets, remember to tweak it to! Hope to watch your videos soon!

  • Nice! What is that preset at 2:15? Love it!!

  • @jst601

Hi dude! Thanks a lot, it´s a combination of pitch shifter, chorus, delay, reverb, and a parametric EQ (which has lot´s of high frecuencies).

  • You should try searching on ebay!!

  • and where do you buy a case for preamps?

  • @myskull54

I bought it here in Lima-Perú, it will need a 3 space rack minimum!

  • @guillespiers well would you know where I could buy one online?

  • and if I tweak this amp correctly could I get an extreme type of high gain sound?

  • @myskull54

Mmmm... The Preamp has a Saturated Solid State distortion... but i would definetly recommend you the tube distortion. You can also use both at the same time.

  • @guillespiers thanks dude

  • I bought this preamp and it's in the proccess of shipping, and I'm wondering what amp head would sound good with this?if I could get some feedback that would be great

  • @myskull54 hey man this isn't my video but I thought I might help. This type of unit would sound best into a power amp like the marshal 20/20. I wouldn't send it into a head unit because the head unit will add it's own sound to it, whereas a power amp shouldn't add anything to the sound.

  • @vicwiley well that's cool, but does this preamp come with its own reverb?

  • @myskull54

Yes, it has lots of diferent types! You don´t need to use anymore your amp reverb.

  • @guillespiers that's cool, but my guitar teacher has his digitech preamp hooked up to a fender, so I was wondering what amps (that are preferably in half stacks) sound good with this preamp

  • @vicwiley

Exactly! That´s the proper way to use it!

  • @myskull54

Mmmmm... well, sincerely, I haven´t used it much in other amps, but i´ve heard it from a friend on a Carvin Power amp and a C412B cabinet, and sounded great. The Preamp is very very versatile, and it should adapt to any of your needs on any amp.

For example, those Crate combo amps in my video have a "flat" sound (not as bright as a Marshall), but with an eq thing, it does right.

  • @guillespiers well my guitar teacher uses a fender with his preamp, so I guess a fender half stack would sound pretty cool

  • Hi, it´s Tone Zone.

  • Hi guillespiers,

thank you for that video. I purchased the 2120 now too. How can i get the exact parameters from the first clean sound with chorus or whatever at min 2.00.

    Thanks and best regards

    Hal

  • hey man ! did you painstakingly tweak all of these presets or are they the factory ones ? i just purchased one mainly because i wanted the control pedal for my Johnson Millinium , but i dont get this out of the Johnson . recording the Johnson direct has been less than desirable but after hearing this im thinkin the problem lies elseware . im sure the pedal will help . could you explain your direct setup ?

  • Hi Dude,

The 2120 is a very good processor, but it needs LOOOTS of EQ to sound right. I mostly use the primary EQ of the effect chain, and a second one after the noise gate (15 band eq). I almost never use the "Solid State Distortion", cause the tube one sounds better :)

I tweeked every sound, but modified some of the factory ones, which are very crappy!

To record this, I send the Digitech outs to a Line 6 UX1 interface, good luck with your sounds!

  • Comment removed

  • @guillespiers hey , one other thing if you have time . are there particular frequencies that you always cut or boost or do just turn knobs till you find what your after

  • @guillespiers ... looks like ive got some serious eq ing to do . thanks for the reply . isnt the UX1 a single input device ... how did you acheive the stereo effect in your recording ? i use an M Audio Blackbox which is also a single input and seems to be robbing what this amp is actually pushin out

  • Great Playing and u did a hella job demoing how each sound can be used in a musical context. Im buying one :)

  • @domonichimself

Thanks a lot! It´s a very flexable unit!

  • @crimsoncarcas

Hi, that´s a dual pitch shifter, with two ecoes separated into diferent outputs and diferent delay times. The right channel receives the 5th pitch of the original note in a delay time of 80 ms (with only one echo repeat), and the left channel receives the 9th pitch of the original note in a delay time of 280 ms (with only one ocho repeat).

Let me know if you want the exact Digitech parameters!

    Thx!

  • are u using the tone zone and paf pro?

  • Yes, I Am!

  • @guillespiers is tone zone not muddy?

  • 9:03 and on = ZELDA MUSIC!!!

  • i have an old 2112 upgraded and i tell i just love it, running it through a makie out an old rack amp to 2 4x12 cabs i wouldnt trade it, found it for a 100. and the foot pedal for 15.

  • Digitech should put you on the pay role. 40 000 hits on youtube. Stuff just confuses the hell out of me I wil just stick to the playing. A lot of people forget about that.

  • Digitech should put you on the pay role. 40 000 hits on youtube. Stuff just confusses the hell out of me I wil just stick to the playing. A lot of people forget about that.

  • The sound of these units are great. Some of the best distortion and overdrive you will find anywhere, pedal or rack. I'm not a big fan of the Wah though. I like having all my stuff in one rack unit; less degradation in the guitar signal.

  • What can I do with the jam>jam? I'm trying to govern the delay time with the pedal, but haven't found the parameters to set such a feat ( pun intended ) Also would like the loop to play while I jam without it adding the signal to the loop. You get me? I'd like to put down a riff and lead over it all day. Can the 2120 do this? You've obviously spent hours with yours, figured you would know.

  • Hi @lmrentfro, you can use the tap delay buton with your footswitch. If you wanna jam, just asign the"tap delay" parameter to one of the pedals.I once did the loop thing with a long delay (the one that uses 10 seconds). I don´t remmeber how i did it, but i think you should use two paralel effect chains (after the noise gate). Use the 10 second delay in one channel, do your riff, and then change to channel one (maybe with your expression pedal). Be sure to have the "seamless" parameter activated.

  • I'm looking for a used unit at this moment, this video just proved I want one 2120! Great demo, thank you very much! What a collection of classical FX! Great!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey guillespiers, the distortion and wah sounds are great.

! Everyone seems to complain about them in the reviews. Totally not founded. Are most of the patches stock??

  • Hi peterplexi, stock patches are terrible! I found them too trebly, and midi. The 2120 needs lots of eq!! I use a 10 band + a 15 band equalizer to get a good sound.

  • I own now a Crybaby Wah, and it´s definitely better, cause it´s not digital, but the Digitech´s alright.

  • hi would it be possible for you to send me some samples of your patches , i have a prestige 3120 ,and digitech 2120 , but i use a starfield all valve preamp , could you send me some of your distorted lead patches and distorted rhythm patches ,just to compare with mine . i stopped using the eq's in the digitech 2120 cos they seemed always to sound quite middly , i just use the eq on the starfield do you use rpedit you could send a few samples in that format ,you have some great sounds in there

  • Hey man nice tones!!! I was wondering how you set up your control one foot controller with this. I plugged mine into my 2101 via midi cable and i know how to save presets but only patches 1, 3 and 7 work on the board. I just got the unit. When I switch the sounds by touching the button on the 2101 itself, it works and it switches on my controller but not when I stomp on it with my feet.

  • Hi BrandonGaetaMusic, maybe your foot controller is broken. The best foot controller you could ever use with a Digitech unit, is a control one, so it´s the best choice. Are you shure you just plugged the control one midi cable in the control one midi input? Be carefull, cause there´s a MIDI in and out to use with other foot controllers.

  • Very good direct sound if you ask me. Do you need to have this plugged into combo or cab speakers because of the tubes? I have always heard that anything with tubes had to be so they wouldn't overload or something. I would like to just use this direct.

  • There is no problem if you use a preamp directly into a recording interface or PC. The only thing that requieres to be plugged into a cab is a power amp. The tubes could overheat and blow, cause there is no proper "exhaust" (just like a car without and exhaust system).

I´ve used my 2120 with lot´s of combo amps, and never had any problems.

  • @guillespiers DOES THIS THING HAVE AMP MODELING

  • No it doesnt, it only has a Cab emulator.

  • @akaboo69

Amp modelling is pretty much a nasty sound, it's got everything I don't like about real cabinets, and nothing that I do like. Oldschool cabinet emulation, which is an EQ curve to get rid of the horrid treble on raw distortion, to my ear cabinet sounds better into a desk than mic-ing up a real cabinet if you're going for a tight sound. The idea that you should put an electric guitar through speakers before going to tape, it's a bit dodgy...

  • The Whammy, como lo tienes configurado?? EQ?? los parametros... te suena muy bien!

  • Thanks,it´s better to buy a Morley Switcher and use 2 Amp,one for the Distortion and the second Amp for Effects, you can mix both Amps or only one Amp who you need at that moment.I want to buy a Line 6 Vetta 2...i think this Amp is really good but a lot People said this Amp have no Power for Concerts,i don´t think so

  • i have a question.. i just bought a 2120 also, can you create two different types of guitar sounds with effects and pan one hard left and pan the other hard right, and play them together at the same time for a rich stereo sound

  • Yes, you can mix them. Listen to the 4:18 - 4:35 (where i combine a clean flanger with a distortion). This is all modified with the expression pedal. If you want, you can also control the balance (left right) of every effect. I could put the distortion on the left amp, and the flanger on the right.

In fact... you can also cross both sounds, from left to right, and from right to left with the expression pedal, or any other pedal in your controller.

  • Hi,can i use the Digitech Gsp 2101 with an Peavey 5150 ??How do i fix the Effects with the Distortion of my 5150 Head ??The Gsp 2101 is great, but the Eventides Eclipse are awesome

  • Sorry... I don´t know the 2101 very well... All I know is that it´s very similar to the 2120.

I don´t think you can control the 5150 head with your 2101. You can do this with a GMajor, and mix your amp distortion with any effect you want. I cannot do this with the 2120.

  • HI, i just got one of these. I would really like to know how you got the Vai setting for 12/24. What preset do i start with? What settings? please help.

  • Hey, do you think that this 2120 is better then the JMP-1, or the Peavey rockmaster? thanks

  • I don´t know the Peavey Rockmaster... but JMP-1 is the best tube/rack distortion out there.

2120 has also tubes (2 12ax7), and every effect you can imagine, a lot of equalizers.

If you choose JMP-1, buy another rack for your effects (without distortion), like the G Major for example. That combination would be great!

Choose the 2120 if you would like everything on a single rack, with a lot of flexability and a very good distortion.

  • hi, another cuestion, processor effectt digitech 2120 o Tc Electronic G.Major. (only stage processor effect). thanks.

  • The Gmajor is very good, but does not include distortions.

Gmajor cannot reproduce two exact effects at the same time, for example one delay at 500 ms, and anothother delay at 1000 ms.

2120 can and thats why it is more flexable.

But... i consider GMajor has a cleaner /deeper and crisper sound.

If you need a procesor to experiment with basic sounds (tremolo, chorus, wah, delays, etc), choose GMajor.

If you need more flexibility to create crazy sound combinations, choose Digitech.

  • digitech 2120 or Line6 PODX3 PRO???? please.

  • Are you kidding? Digitech 2120 all the way... Pods can't compare.

  • thanks :D

  • 2120 has two 12AX7 tubes, PODS are tube emulators.

  • You sound so cool dude...really awesome.

I own a 2120 myself and was always looking for that U2 sound starting at 3:10. You really would do me a great favor if you could post the settings for that sound here...

  • i have the same axe as this.rg 3120.changed the brdge 2 a evolution,dp 159.works great.

  • You have some wicked sounds there, I have one of these but struggle to get a decent overdrive from it I ended up using a Marshall JMP-1 for overdrive, can you list or email all the effects/settings your using for the overdrive at the very beggining ?

    Cheers

    Russ

  • JMP-1 is AMAZING. I think you made a very good choice. Here are my settings: Comp:-28, 7.00, 4 Saturated Tube Dist 50 Eq: 10,7,4,2,-2,-1,2,4,2,4. Distortion off Noise Gate on Use Config 6 15 Band Eq: 8,6,4,2,0,-5,-1,-3,1,-1,1,4,3,2,10. Delay (on/off) for solos Reverb on. Dry 75 / Wet 25 Cab Emulator Type 5 / Post Digital.
  • Thanks for the reply - at the start of the clip when you use the wah is it the wah on the 2120? If it's on the 2120 do you use the same settings as above ? What settings do you have on the wah ?? - I can never get it to sound right.

The JMP is great I use it for my overdrive (it has a very 'full' sound) - I use the 2120 in the effects loop for EQ, Chorus, Reverb and all other effects - sounds pretty cool. Let me know about your wah settings thanks.

  • Hi, my wah settings are only Digitech´s. I use Heavy Toe Type.

I think it will sound better if you tweak the mix knob to 99% at the primary screen.

Your JMP-1 is great! Iron Maiden used it!! :)

  • @guillespiers Wow you know all the complaints abou the wah quality are totally false. Same with the distortions. Sounds great!

  • @guillespiers Gracias. ya leí tu seteo

  • Upgraded mine to vers.2.11 and replaced the tubes a couple of month ago. Everything worked great... Until today! Suddenly the FC and device shows "vers. 2.11" on their displays. No buttons are lit(except both the displays shows "vers. 2.11") and NOTHING works!!

Any ideas about the problem/sollution ???

    Thanks "2120-savior" guillespiers!

  • ...of course I even replaced that little battery for a new one. I've only used this rack about 10 times since I ugraded it. Please help me out!

  • Made a "hard reset" -Problem solved...

    Sorry for ruined your wall!

  • No problem dude!! I´ll keep that solution in mind...

  • a couple of questions for you. What midi controller are you using to control the unit? and what type of amp/power amp are using?

  • The midi controller is digitech´s control one. I use two Crates GX 212 (no tubes) and the digitech... that`s all.

  • Yes, the presets are awfull... The only way is to modify the actual ones.

I recomend you to save presets on every effect, it will help you create new effects faster. You can start creating a preset for the preamp, which includes compressor, wah wah, distortion, eq, and noise gate.

I use lot`s of eq`s, almost every distortion has the 15 eq band eq.

  • Hey, do you mind e-mailing me regarding some questions I know you would have the answers to,I would greatly appreciated

  • fucken nice demo wish i could have that rack

  • You can find it on Ebay por US$ 400.00, it`s a very versatile unit, you can play every almost style with it!

  • man that digitech racks got a mad sound compared to all the sounds i hear from eventide and those other expensive ones people try make demos of

  • Thx mate!

  • One more thing, I currently have one 2x12 stereo cab but, would like like to add a second, do think this would be overkill with this processor or will it just simply sound SICK?

  • It will be OVERKILL, Stereo sound is a lot more diferent than Mono sound, y you can play with panning delays, tremolos, etc...

  • Showed up last night, hooked it up and CRANKED IT !!! SICK !!! Regarding that setting starting @ 1:30; is it a pre-set already or did you create it?

  • Hey dude! Thx for your comments! The 1:30 - 2:00 sound you are looking for is the last part from the song Flood from Pantera (cool riff!!) It goes like this: - Compresor:Thres28/Ratio4.00/Attack2 - Tubedist on:Saturated 25 Gain / And a good Eq! - Bypass Distortion - Noise Gate (will depend on your pickups) - Select 2-4-4 chain effect setting - 15 Band Eq (custom eq setting) - Delay:60fx level/dry:45/Delaytime:536ms Fdbk:30 - A light reverb. Hope that helped!! Enjoy!!
  • This may come off as being a stoopid questions BUT, do you start with any preset and adjust away or what? I'm reading my book now, maybe I will discover it in there huh?

  • I had the GSP2101 Artist a couple of years ago but sold it to pay some bills but recently found a 2120 which I should receive next week, can't wait.

  • it sound almost liike guitar hero

  • it sounds to digital.

  • Have you got a tone zone in the bridge and paf pro in the neck on that guitar?

  • some great tones and some great playing mate, well done

  • Hey there, just got one...

A Simple question: How do I ADD (not edit) an effect in each user program? Maybe it's not possible...

Thanks/ You sound great on the Tube!

  • Hi! You could try using the loop effects input if you are using any pedals, but if you want to add another effect, you must change the effect chain in the "Config" page. This is the only way. Effect chain configurations are already established. Thx dude!

  • what song is that from 1:30

  • It´s the final part of "Flood´s" from Pantera!

  • Can you provide the settings from 1:30 thru 2:00, is sounds AMAZING !!!

  • I think I just may have found that setting under Morse Dist + Pan Delay #16 preset... Sounds real close, if I morph the setting it might get closer? One that blew me away is Auto-Morph now if I can only get to go full manuel where the pedal would feed the distortion ... Do u know what I mean?

  • Hi...

I'm having a sort of problem with mine...

For some reason, when I use the expression pedal... the actual level of the patch I'm using changes... I mean... It gets louder when switching to another patch, after using it... then pulling the pedal all the way up it stays on the "Normal" level.

This happened two times... and the only solution I found was to re-make all my presets... (A tough work)

Is there any way to solve it without remaking all...

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi, maybe you should try turning off the Vol Pedal Update (It´s on page 13 of the "Utilities" button). If it´s on, it´s probably changing or "Updating" the Volumen efect on every patch you use. I think this funtion should be in Digitech version n° 2.11. Hope it helps!

  • Thanks for your fast reply...

I will try that... sounds very logic, but I have my gear on the rehearsal place, so I can't try it right now...

I'm using this unit since 4 years ago, and I think it's good, mainly because the tubes...

I'm very happy with it... but I think is time to replace the tubes... so... what's your recommendation about this...

    (I have some "Sovtek's" 12AX7 now... since 2 years)

    Thanks Again Mate...

  • man, do you know when we have to use a cabinet emulator?

  • Mmmmm... i use it to get less high frequencies in distortions. All mi distortions have the CabEM in 4 or 5. Almost every clean sound i have, has the CabEM bypassed.

  • Thx man! These are the settings: Compressor on, Tube Warm Clean + 50 gain (turn off DIST). Tube eq: Level 100%, phase in 8,4,3,2,-2,-5,-3,3,6,8 (low to high freq), + Noise Gate. • thanks dude. it sounds a bit different on my amp but it's still cool ;)

by the way there are many of your sounds that i like... if you have written them somewhere you could post some here :)

  • By the way, How do you think the distortions compare to more modern units? Sounds pretty darn good here, just would like to know what you think. Keep rockin!

  • I think modern units are trying to emulate analog sounds with digital technology. The could get close, but it will never be the same thing. This 2120 has many digital sounds, but it also has two tubes, which hold the analog part of it.

  • Best video of the 2120 yet! Nice sound and playing. Could you share some of your patches?

  • the chorus in 2.09 is very good. what are the settings?
