My family used to raise Nubian goats, rabbits, chickens, and turkeys but everytime we'd try to garden it'd flop! Do you have any advice on how to grow organically? I'm currently expecting and when my husband gets back from his deployment we're going to buy a home and I want to teach my child the art of homesteading.
Are those pygmy goats? Have you considered lamas? They don't eat much, their wool is nicer, you can still get milk, and they make good pack animals. Whether out hiking, or hauling produce to a local market. Lastly, how much of the chicken's/ goats food do you produce?
we just bought land in ecuador and will be doing that down there. i am a little scared about getting started but know i will handle it and look forward to learning the ropes and GETTING BACK TO NATURE.

Awesome. Yesterday I bought a book called Food Not Lawns that is about this very subject. VERY inspiring. I'm totally going to get rid of my front lawn and grow food!
Great ideas! Another idea is what we did, which is to cover the entire back yard (that used to be lawn) with weed-control cloth covered with free mulch from the dump. We cut holes in the cloth for the trees and bushes we wanted to preserve. You can REALLY reclaim your weekends this way! No more lawn care! Plus you save on water.

this is awesome! I want to start my own organic garden one day! :) Being a vegetarian myself, I believe it would be very useful!

Beautiful.
You have inspired us to change our lives - trying to take the very same steps towards being self-sustained.
