im having a presscott p4 2.66ghz running on 3.1ghz and 448ram now i have windows xp but if i have more than 2 programs open its slow as fuck so is this a good alernative
@scarsunseen24 so what you are telling me is a current version of windows xp with all the service packs and all your software running on a k-6 boot's in 40 seconds....is this true......?????...as i beg to differ..
hey sneeky, love the reviews, but i have a question. lately, ive come across a corrupted hard disk in my primary laptop, fortunately, the BIOS allows me to boot through my USB ports... now, i understand you dont do questions like this, and dont do tutorial videos (as far as ive watched ), but i've had no luck on forums, and on the net,so i thought i might turn to you for help. I'd like to blacklist a module, although the option isnt available... please help?
never been able to instal puppy properly, what do you think is the oldest pc/laptop that this will work on, i got satelite pro, but always get ernel panic or umpteen other problems (
grub error etc) and sugestions would bring great joy
@factorialpython I have Puppy working smoothly on an old Sony Vaio PCG-FX401 from 2001 :-) I remember is was quite difficult to install, I used another Linux distro (AntiX) for creating a Linux partition and Grub file. AntiX gives insight in the Grub file creating.
@bertitolino my sat pro 4300 series, came with win98se when i got it, it still goes, but ALWAYS get probs with any linux distro i put on it, always at close down restart "grub error", but being very new i have NO clue in solving probs, seen loads of vids, BUT do not know the basics of terminal or other bits to do what they say :(, thanks for you help, the search shall continue

I can't remember the specifics, but I used to use Iron, and one of the Arch devs/maintainers told me some backstory about it that made me stop using it. Something about the developer only "creating" it to make money. Here's the link, just found it:
@thisweekinlinux ok mate, well i have looked into this a bit deeper, and have requested a bit of clarification from the developers, whether i will get a reply is another thing.
but on looking at the stuff,it may be that language may have distorted things as they are in germany, but we will see

@MrJordiR this is because xp now needs 512 ram at a minimum just to run, try lubuntu first if you have never tried linux before

@sneekylinux Then why am I running XP on an AMD K-6 333MHz CPU with 64MB EDO RAM and a 4GB hdd?
scarsunseen24 1 month ago
@scarsunseen24 because you want too??
sneekylinux 1 month ago
@sneekylinux My point is that 512 RAM is NOT the minimum.
scarsunseen24 1 month ago
@scarsunseen24 i would love to know how usable it is, and the boot time must be ooohhh, 10 mins
sneekylinux 1 month ago

Puppy 5.2 feels nice and polished. I tried Virtual Box and it ran nicely! I installed a virtual Windows 98 and took a trip down memory lane.
