Oh, so one-sided. Why not mention that Slovenia controlled the disputed bay of Piran in 1991 ? That Slovenia gave half of its traditional coastline to Italy after 1945, so that Croatia could gain several islands and its cities (Italian before WW2). And that Croatia unilaterally pushed forward into disputed territory on several locations since 1991 ? And how about Italy blocking Slovenia to join EU ? Oh, that was fair ? Italy only unblocked Slovenia after Slovenia agreed to many of its demands.

@pixelator30 Actually the state of the things wasnt that clear at all. The Bay itself was actually part of the court county on the croatian side but the closes police station was obviously in city of Piran so they controlled it. Do not forget this was Yugoslavia we are talking about.

All nations have endured hardship, Slovenia and Croatia including. What ancestral lands is Slovenia claiming ? The dispute is about a tiny bay of Piran in Istria, which was historically mixed Italian and Slovenian, and never Croatian. Slovenia demands access to international waters (its own, not over Croatia) because Slovenians are a naval nation historically, and they refuse this status taken away from them. Since 1991, Croatia made many steps that encroached on this status. Why.

Croatia brought this issue to the table by bringing those maps, which Slovenia can't accept. They are putting blame only on Slovenia, but they are the one, who doesn't want to talk anf find solution. I agree Croatia to enter but not befor the problem is solved. Until then Slo will use it's veto right.

If we don't set border now, we never will and it will be the same as in Yugoslavia and look what problems we have now because of that. No mater if they enter EU, the border must be set. I mean, would you agree to enter country in EU if they woud want to take away your access to open sea? Slovenia is my country's friendly neighbor however Hungary can not support Slovenia in this question of boycotting Croatia's accession to the EU. This small border issue can not be put on the table of the whole EU. Just because Slovenia has a small controversy with Croatia, other EU members will not dislike Croatia. At the other hand, Croatia is well prepared for membership and the EU needs such members!

Do you even know why we are boycotting them? Croatia is using maps in their negotiations with EU where they have already marked border betwen us, even tho it has never been set officialy!

And if EU takes in those maps, Croatia could then point on those maps and say that the teritory that they marked as theirs on their maps, belongs to them.

If the border was not yet officially set at Istria then it"s time to do so.

Actually the border is not in the middle of the harbor but at the shore of Croatia so that tourists, when stepping into the water, are crossing it and "enter" Slovenia. Croatia is right, the border lies in the sea according to international law, although if it hasn't been officially set.

It's not fair to boycott an other country's EU integration by abusing your own membership and pressing the whole union to accept a ridiculous opinion about some meters of sea water just because the union's external border equals to the border of Slovenia.

Issues like this should be resolved by Hague international court like in the case of Romania and Ukraine. The boycott damages Slovenia's reputation and makes it ridiculous!

And yes this border conflict is pointless... But you need to understand we had control over the bay and the problematic border in year 1991 when we became independant and some years later. Plus we were always country that had access to the sea.

And now you're gonna say it we should let them join EU with those maps? That means we would agree with them that we never had access point to the open sea, which would be wrong.

And another thing - When Slovenia joined EU, we had to change some things that Austria and Italy didn't like in our institution... We had to give people from other countries rights to buy our lands - You're saying that was right too?

Between Slovenia and Italy there is no border anymore. Slovenia ships can get to high waters easily through the Tireste Bay and later when Croatia joins the Schengen area, also by using the Croatian waters.

Giving the right to other EU citizens to buy land in your country was a common requirement. Also Hungary had to accept this.

Croatia may have border disputes with others too, let's see Hague's decision!

By the way, Hungary may have the most of such disputes!

Today our prime-minister said that if Croatia won't accept our "modified" proposal for border... They can either take away those maps and we will unblock them, or they might stay blocked for long time.

You need to realise we lost a lot of our teritory during first world war and up to year 1991 and Croatia gained a lot of it - We gave away Trieste and in Exchange Croatia got Istra... We also lost Klagenfurt and teritory around it - What did Croatia lose? Nothing, they gained a lot, thanks to us.

Those territories belonged to Austria. Slovenia itself was part of Austria, while the Mura Land (which belong to Slovenia today) was a Hungarian territory.

We lost Trieste in year 1954, even tho we got it back at the end of second world war. And for Klagenfurt, we lost it in 1919. Look up if you don't belive me. And also if you know so much about history. Explain to me why there were so many Slovenians living in Klagenfurt before and after first world war? Same story was with Trieste. We lost both areas in referendum. Want links for proof?

As far as I know, Trieste was part of an Austrian province before 1919. Slovenia's today territory belonged to this Austrian province, while the Muraland to Hungary.

I know there were Slovenian living in Carintia (today Karnten) and also around Gorizia and Trieste. This is not a question but Slovenia did not exists as a state before the end of the 20th century according to international law. Even in Yugoslavia it was "only" one of the federal republics and not an independent state. Now it is!

It is really not correct that Slovenia is trying to use the power of veto to pressure Croatia to give up it's land. Slo. doen't want this to be brought up in front of EU Court of Justice b/c they know they cannot win this case. And since Cro. needs Slo's assent in order to join the EU in 2011, Slo. is in a situation to blackmail Cro. I am not Croat nor Slo, and I really don't have any interest to defend any of the parties. For futher info, anyone can study territorial maps and make a conclusion.

Znam engleski, talijanski i španjolski. Inače sam iz Istre pa mi je talijanski ko vodu pit, na engleskom se dopisujem s brojnim prijateljima a španjolski izgovaram bole od Pedra Almodovara.
