If it more complex than most Roman Cathiolics and Protestants may understand. It is the same as having intercommunion and ecumenism with other non-Christian faiths and confessions. Orthodoxy does not allow for any of this. So an Orthodox Christian may receive communion in any Orthodox Church that is in Communion with the entire Orthodox World. Luther was not wrong in challenging the Church of Rome on their many false practises and teachings.Lutherans must reconcile themselves to this choice. One must remember that the Theology of the Orthodox Church is one and the same no matter what Orthodox Church one attends. The theology of the Church of Rome is unique to them alone- their understanding of Original Sin, Purgatory, Statues and Figures depicting Christ and the Mother of God and the Saiints. These are all stumbling blocks to unity.
The Church of Rome is not in communion with any of the Orthodox Churches in the World. Until they change their dogma's about Papal Infallibility, the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God and the Changing of the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed whereby they profess that the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son, we are not the same Church and Rome is aware of this. Many Protestants have returned to the Orthodox Church. However, they iniitially broke away from the Church of Ro
Many men have made mistakes in history. Even the men who elected to dedicate their lives to God. That is clearly evident in todays times as well.
I believe the point here is not so much to honor the men, but to show that "a man" who represented the church and God was killed because he was an agent of our Father and that the same fate could be repeated against other Christians regardless of how they worship or what denomination they may be.
I'm Greek Melkite Catholic, please stop saying that the Orthodox and Catholic Churches are heretics! Both are God's One Holy Apostolic and Catholic Church. Both Churches are equal and we should all one day be reunited. Why should we anathematize/excommunicate we will one day be one again. The protestant churches are the heretics, but we shouldn't judge people.
Very beautiful. By any chance do you know what they are singing about perhaps translation of this beautiful language into English? If you can, that would really be great. Thanks and God Bless!
They are singing in Ukrainian the Feast of the Nativity Troparion: God is with us. Understand all ye nations and submit yourselves. for God is with us. In between they add verses.
@Loiginer Technically the Russian Orthodox aren't heretics, because they didn't originate from the Catholic Church and therefore can't go against the teachings of the Catholic Church and therefore can't be heretics
The sheer size age and beauty of the Russian Orthodox Church is breathtaking. I consider myself an honourary adherent to this ancient liturgy and faith!!!
I applaud you for embracing Orthodoxy and may you share it with your family and friend's in the Love of Christ and His Holy teachings. You may love ancientfaithradio and the music , commentaries and podcasts they play there if you click on windows media player.
@vladimyr9 I watched with horror stalins destruction of Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow 1931 I do not practice Orthodoxy officially there are no R.O. churches in my area so I join in spirit with the Holy Church the R.O. church is a feast for the senses the visual beauty stunning the sounds of the bells and liturgy is Heaven on Earth and the warmth and smells of the candles and incense pleasure to the touch and nose and the wine for communion to the taste! I'm also pro-Romanov!
Try going to a website like ancientfaithradio and you will find it very spiritually uplifting and helpful in your given situation of not being close to any Orthodox Church. Just to let you know that the Tsar and his family have been canonized by the Orthodox Church for their martyrdom . Remember, My Friend, that it is not for myself or anyone to judge anyone. This remains for God alone! We must embrace everyone in the Love of Christ who came to save all sinners of whom I am
