  • Thank you, dear Doug for reminding us of true soprano greatness.

  • Love the song - and oh, the singer!

  • ALMA is the lass with the delicate air-period!!!! She is my desert island soprano-period.

  • Singing this for solo contest...I really enjoy it. Alma has a beautiful lilting voice. :)

  • Apologies belated response...

.... thank you... and GOOD LUCK!

  • Thank you for the good luck. :)

  • The quality of this acoustic recording is almost beyond belief. Judging by the last few bars she must have had either perfect absolute pitch or an awful lot of self-confidence!

  • Good points... perhaps BOTH!?

    Many thanks & all best!

    Doug --

  • It doesn't get any better than this! TY Sir Douglas

  • Many thanks pual. A real extraordinary beautiful Voice. TY

  • she has better pitch than a piano tuner

  • A fine performance as only Alma could give. Thank you for sharing this beautiful post with me.

  • Thanks for posting!

You must surely know Marcia Davenport's "Too Strong for Fantasy" and "Of Lena Geyer," yes?

  • Hello KozenaFan: Yes, indeed! There's also a recently published biography of her husband, violinist Efrem Zimbalist, by Roy Mala, a student at Curtis Institute when Zimbalist was active there. Some very touching moments on Alma Gluck Not too long ago Efrem, Jr., published his autobiography, "My Dinner of Herbs." Tnx & Rgds. Doug --.

  • Doug,

    Thanks for the info.

  • Alma Gluck is one my favorite singers of any time. There few videos of her uploaded in youtube. I have uploaded several, which I invite to watch. She was a great soprano.

  • Doug my friend

Alma sings so well - Thank you

    Richard ;)

  • A few more aspirates than I would have expected, but the voice and manner are adorable. Who could POSSIBLY sing like this today?

  • Fantastic! I love her voice. 5*****

  • After all these years, I still recall and love this performance, sung with such charm and vivacity. Whether it be an aria by Handel or Rameau, or a song by Arne or Foster, Gluck never disappoints. She is surely one of the greatest lyric sopranos on record. Her teacher, Sembrich, also made a fine recording of the song.

  • Clear diction and a smile in the voice. A fearless attack and a security of placement. One doesn't anticipate the high note in her voice. It just appears. A delightfully sung version of a lovely song. One imagines her taking a slower tempo outside of the recording studio. Thanks Doug.
