I was very shocked to find out, as late as the Battle of Kursk the majority of German tanks were Panzer III... even Panzer IV were only mass produced quite late!
these VAF doco's are some of best out there. watching this it occured to me just how much of a politican Hitler was, rather than a military commander, as he sent his motorized formations into early wars in what were intended as training model tanks...
Look at the tank commander sitting in is cupola. He's out of the tank up to his waist, And he looks as tall as the whole tank. Pz I and II were the size of a sedan, maybe a pickup.
Imagine if germany kept its navy somehow from WW1...then donitz would be very happy lol...

General Halder said that the tank was Pz Mk 1 burden for the German army on the Eastern Front .....
