In today's news Bernanke predicts the recession could end this year and the White House is now expressing optimism. Every time the stock market has fell to 7 ounces of gold, it eventually has fallen to 1 ounce. So, if everything goes like history says the dow will sometime within a year hit one ounce of gold.
The dow won't hit 935 though... it's possible they might meet at the middle, dow and gold both around 4000 or so.
There is a limit (barring disaster) of how far the dow can fall, after all many of the companies are still consistently making money as usual. Mcdonalds, Walmart, Exxon, Chevron, Coca Cola, Verizon. There are still many profitable companies, it's just a handful of huge ones that are dragging the total down.

Some are keeping cash ready to take advantage of deflation. Retailers are going to put everything on sale to reduce inventories, keep sales moving, stay alive, bankruptcies, etc. Their margins will be cut to nothing.
Everything down the line will get cheaper for a while; this is the time to turn cash into valuable assets on sale. Gold is great if you have lots of assets and wealth to protect, but it might be better to buy food, guns and gear instead ... gold tastes bad..

I agree with you crabshack that Gold is a perfect hedge in times of crisis like default. However, with hyperinflation the best hedges are very commodities that will go up in price that people need every day. Gasoline, oil, agriculture/food, water, etc.
I agree 100%, but don't forget about dreaded "price controls" on staple items. In troubled times the government can really make up any rules they like - "for our safety/good."
If I remember my history, they put price controls on things like milk. It turned out that the set price was so far below the production cost that it couldn't even make it to the cities - people starved and farmers dumped milk.

And, you are going to have to hide all of your stuff. First off, "non prepared" people are going to get desparate and take your things.
Next reason to keep it hidden is the government can take your supplies. If you are "hording" with people starving they will take your food/water and spread it out.
If you have money an underground plastic tank is pretty cheap. Grab a shovel and bury it.
The tank can then be pumped out or you could drop a rain collection funnel in it - tabs to purify.
Hide your food - build a false wall - hide in old 'clean' paint cans - cut openings in drywall ceilings and 'patch' supplies inside - attic - garage - yard - get creative now.
Of course you share with your neighbor, but it has to be on your terms. To have all of your gear taken first week of a problem will undo all your hard work and prep.

GE is an odd stock. Even today with the market up 2.5%, GE is down almost 5%. It is a company with real earnings and is spread throughout all markets and around the world.
A core portion of the business was their Capital arm - it could finance any product or service they sold. If you wanted 100, $2million wind turbines, then they work out a financing arrangement - definitely easier to make sales.
Now that Capital arm is an unknown cancer and will be unable to support sales going forward. I think it is scaring investors; how much bad debt or debt that will be defaulted on is on GE Capital's books.
People are running P/E ratios and saying "buy, buy, buy" but they are assuming that a similar sales volume will be achieved in 2009 - I just don't see it happening.

hey. we are experiencing a fake rally in the market. The Dow could go above 8000, 10000, 15000.....it doesnt matter because this is a suckers rally. We had dead cat bounces in the markets during the Great Depression but did that mean anything? Nope. We didnt get out of it until WW2. The stage has been set for a major final collapse which we will see around september-october this year. Last year was the financial sector. The dow won't hit 935 though... it's possible they might meet at the middle, dow and gold both around 4000 or so.
There is a limit (barring disaster) of how far the dow can fall, after all many of the companies are still consistently making money as usual. Mcdonalds, Walmart, Exxon, Chevron, Coca Cola, Verizon. There are still many profitable companies, it's just a handful of huge ones that are dragging the total down.

Gold is heavily manipulated. I think one report last week had Sachs, JP and a few other banks holding ALL of the short positions in gold now.
Gold must be beaten down to ensure the $USD stays as the reserve currency.
In this time of a potential default or hyperinflation, gold is a perfect hedge. Money becomes paper and gold stays put or increases.
Gold this year I think has a huge range, you might lose a little or make some. But, it is guaranteed that you will not lose everything.

Some are keeping cash ready to take advantage of deflation. Retailers are going to put everything on sale to reduce inventories, keep sales moving, stay alive, bankruptcies, etc. Their margins will be cut to nothing.
Everything down the line will get cheaper for a while; this is the time to turn cash into valuable assets on sale. Gold is great if you have lots of assets and wealth to protect, but it might be better to buy food, guns and gear instead ... gold tastes bad..

I agree with you crabshack that Gold is a perfect hedge in times of crisis like default. However, with hyperinflation the best hedges are very commodities that will go up in price that people need every day. Gasoline, oil, agriculture/food, water, etc.

I agree 100%, but don't forget about dreaded "price controls" on staple items. In troubled times the government can really make up any rules they like - "for our safety/good."
If I remember my history, they put price controls on things like milk. It turned out that the set price was so far below the production cost that it couldn't even make it to the cities - people starved and farmers dumped milk.
Maybe it won't apply this time - who can tell?

And, you are going to have to hide all of your stuff. First off, "non prepared" people are going to get desparate and take your things.
Next reason to keep it hidden is the government can take your supplies. If you are "hording" with people starving they will take your food/water and spread it out.
If you have money an underground plastic tank is pretty cheap. Grab a shovel and bury it.

Hide your food - build a false wall - hide in old 'clean' paint cans - cut openings in drywall ceilings and 'patch' supplies inside - attic - garage - yard - get creative now.
Of course you share with your neighbor, but it has to be on your terms. To have all of your gear taken first week of a problem will undo all your hard work and prep.

The ideas are really all MOT's. He has said relationships will be very important if things get bad. Communites will have to come together like they did in the past. Right now nobody relys on their neighbor - just ATMs and 24h Grocery stores.
You will have to weed out who is going to help and who is a threat. Quick plans with family and friends now could help in panic - meeting spots, duties, supplies, etc.
Then hopefully it is all an overreaction and you can lol and eat up supplies.

I wouldn't worry about the unprepared people destroying your garden. They would probably grab what they can see and scram. Most won't be "bad" just desperate ... hungry kids will motivate sane people to do many things.
If you do hide your supplies leave a small amount out as a "teaser". Don't appear 'set up'; look like everyone else.

You talk about the second coming of Jesus Christ. I'm still trying to figure out my own beliefs, but why would God let so much of this happen to innocent people? Why would HE not step in before such a terrible crisis can happen? Does this mean their is still time to correct before we've gone off the deep edge? When I think about religion all I seem to find with myself is more questions than answers...

question: for the last 2 months, I have been accumulating put options on this : iShares Barclays 20+ Year Treas Bond (TLT). The option symbol is YXDMH.X and it expires Jan2010. Does anyone have an opinion on this particular stock / option ? I feel like I should buy more, but a little hesitate.

I think it's time to buy GE stocks. It's at eight dollars, I think it will go back to a hundred by this time next year. GE they bring good things to life. lol

GE is an odd stock. Even today with the market up 2.5%, GE is down almost 5%. It is a company with real earnings and is spread throughout all markets and around the world.
A core portion of the business was their Capital arm - it could finance any product or service they sold. If you wanted 100, $2million wind turbines, then they work out a financing arrangement - definitely easier to make sales.

Now that Capital arm is an unknown cancer and will be unable to support sales going forward. I think it is scaring investors; how much bad debt or debt that will be defaulted on is on GE Capital's books.
People are running P/E ratios and saying "buy, buy, buy" but they are assuming that a similar sales volume will be achieved in 2009 - I just don't see it happening.

Comparative religion is not an internet movie. It's a study of the history & origins of the world religions. It's a course taught at universities. Judaism, Christianity & Islam all originated in ancient Egypt & Babylon. The history of the current major three religions is easily traced through the ages. Religion, since the dawn of time, has been a way to explain the realities & the mysteries of physical & spiritual life. Religion is not 'God's' literal 'word'; it's a metaphor for God.

To earn a 'LIVING' means to earn MONEY.
To engage in LIVING, or to be FORCED to earn MONEY, is to have to 'LIVE'.

Money can operate without greed or avarice attached to it. Debt is the slavery part. Money can operate without debt ! Credit induced by the bankers puts us into their debt. Their is undoubtably a Devil, although it is NOT the Devil the church attempts to blame everything on.
The Devil lives inside us all as our IGNORANCE/OUR SELF-ISHNESS.
Our hatred, anger, jealousy, insecurities, doubt etc.
Our IGNORANCE/SELF arises out of the impressions, and information (our conditioning) we are continually BE-ing bombarded with, during the life we have 'LIVED' (our PAST) up to NOW.

I had said before that I would rather discuss how to survive-rather than spiritual things. But, in order to survive I think I will need to gather strength from within and surround myself with people who are also filled with faith - people I can trust are living in the spirit and not corruptable.
So MOT is right to bring up FAITH as part of facing the times to come. FAITH based in love.
Now, I still appreciate MOT;s take on the economy and where/when we are headed into disastor. thanks MOT.

The solution is as follows.
By continually thinking and talking about the Past, we feed and sustain the LIVING PAST within us (E-motion).
This is actually/literally A FEED' BACK LOOP.
By NOT talking or thinking about the PAST, unless it is absolutely necessary.
By BE-ing PRESENT (or CONSCIOUS/NOW) it is possible to deny the living PAST within our BODY/MIND the sustainance it NEEDS.
You can actually STARVE IT (YOUR IGNORANT SELF) OUT OF YOU, by breaking the LOOP.

Well I have to admit, part of it I did.
Although the rest of it I learnt, from MY own EXPERIENCE.
For something to be the TRUTH for ME, it must be the TRUTH of my own EXPERIENCE.
When someone tells me something, I always insist they SHOW ME, when they cannot, I then know, that what they are telling me is BULLSHIT, or is just something they have picked up from some dodgy source, an IMPRESSION in other words.

BY consciously giving up your-SELF, you will NATURALLY come unto 'ME'.

God created "heaven/earth", then why did he allow the devil-if all powerful, cant he delete the devil?
Its like a builder who makes a house, has unlimited resources/cash, but
there's a hole in a wall, causing problems to the people who
moved in, but he allows it, then sits there, watches it allow cold
to come in, rats, disease, and a son dies of meningitis,..the builder, doesnt do anything, watches it all,
to make sure the dwellers have "faith" in him as their builder or not,
all as a test.

My view is that everything of the earth is mortal, and even though created by God, is ruled by man. Each man consists of 1. Physical nature(Body &Mind) 2. Spiritual nature (soul.) We have a "choice" to let our MINDS guide our existence or guide our lives from our SPRITUAL SELF To me, the MIND is where all greed, jealousy, corruption, hatred, etc originate - because the mind is so limited. To me, the soul is where God Exists inside each of us and is wise and peaceful, unlimited and loving.

Also, the MIND is triggered into FEAR; The spirit is fearless. We can choose to block out the spirit and let our minds rule. But, if we silence our minds in prayer and let the spirit of god guide us in ruling our lives - we are more peaceful and loving. Even in times of great trial and death -one living in the spirit is stronger. Yes, if I were God, I might say I would make it heaven on earth. And maybe that will come - in the last days when everyone is ruled by he spirit. my opinion.

I have followed MOT for about a year now and have his video. I sold almost all my investments before the crash and paid off my car and other debts. I believe in the Holy Spirit of God, but, I don't think God did this to us. The earthly world of greed and other vices resulted in Man doing this to ourselves - with the disapproval of God. I am very intetested in how to SURVIVE in the coming years, not so much: Democrats vs Republicans or even discussing the WIDE Variations of religous belief.

Father God is constant.
Father God is always true to his word.
Father God is all powerful, all knowing, and is everywhere.
Father God created us to love him and to serve Him, All that we see and hold, Father God gave to man thru those he gave knowledge to make and use it.

You are quite correct about how the bible is thought of these days, it is NOT held in very high regard.
This is probably due to the complete contradiction on which it bases its teachings, they preach one thing, but behind the scenes they are doing the other, although they do their level best not to get caught. ANY DISCREPANCIES ARE GENERALLY JUST COVERED UP.
Any individual or group which is continually caught lying/manipulating facts for its own ends, EVENTUALLY LOOSES ALL CREDIBILITY.

God/Universal Laws are constant and true - like empirical studies - applications of the truth will produce the same results over and over again.

Most established religions are NOT willing to accept that GOD is RESPONSIBLE for all things, both GOOD and BAD.
Including the actions of MAN.
To get around this problem (of responsibility) the CHURCH invented this LITTLE RED MAN, WHO CARRIES WITH HIM A PITCHFORK, AND HAS BIG HORNS.........SATAN.
SATAN according to the CHURCH, does all the BAD things, that happen to take place.

The Masoretic text written around 900 AD is the same as the dead sea manuscripts written 1000 years earlier. Just asserting that there are revisions doesn't make it so. The doubters have no alternate versions and yet declare that they exist confidently as if it were fact. Copies are not the same as revisions.
