Bravo. Huey knows what he's talking about. The Left & Right wings are two wings on the same bird. Pay no attention to the bluster of the wings but instead keep your eye on the bird behind the wings. The flapping of the wings will change from time to time but the bird always stays on course. People get caught up in all the smoke & mirrors, but it's all just tricks & illusions. Really it's all a magic show & you are the audience. You break the spell (wake up) when you realise it's all just fakery.
He was a good speaker, and a powerful political boss. He may have helped Louisiana but he also helped himself to the public coffers. He had the police in Louisiana in his pockets to an extent greater than any politician during the Depression. FDR considered him dangerous as did most Republicans. Read a good biography to decide how good and how bad he was.
@IVXXX1718 Actually FDR said that the two most dangerous men in the country were Douglas McArthur and Senator Huey Long. They were dangerous to him and his rich friends. But, Senator Long was the wisest and bravest of all the politicians of his era. None of them cared for the poor. FDR had the US Army attack WWI veterans and homeless people in Central Park and in Washington DC. Many historians have made Huey Long look like a dictator. He was fixing a screwed up corrupt Louisiana.
There will never be a greater Champion of the Poor than Huey P. Long. Great leaders generally get assassinated. Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, JFK etc. That's unfortunately what happens when you question the Establishment. Huey would have out-debated FDR 10 times over-- and was a threat to his presidency. Many revisions to FDR's New Deal were taken directly from Huey's Share our Wealth platform. He possessed a photographic memory, and passed the bar exam after just one year at Tulane.
Hewey long was a self promoting politician who gave as good as he got, and then some. There are always people who plot to take out those that antagonize the rich and Long was no exception. He had an agenda for the common man, and fulfilled his promises, never mind the law or those who tried to stand in his way. A redistribution of wealth was his main platorm, which boardered on the hairy edge of Socialism. The desperately poor, and hopeless people of La. needed a hero, and God sent Hewey P.
Fuck the Democrats and Fuck the Republicans. When a man makes a profit , the Left-Wing call him a "Greedy Capitalist". When a man wants a decent wage, then the Right-Wing call him a "Socialist". They are both morons.
This man loved US, his family, the potential for US, and for Western survial.
The level of bottom of an un cleaned toilet ignorance and willful arrogance to say a single negative word against Huey P. Long just shows level of feeble minds we have in the Media brain washed ex republic today IMO.
He was up against the same murdering thugs we have today.
THE only places in LA. that he did not fully controll were the MOBSTER nest.
FDR sicced 450 Feds find dirt, but he was clean as a Saint
Isn't that something how history repeats itself. Same lies, same treachery being sold to the people now about how workers must take pay and benefit cuts to "stay competitive" and about how lowering taxes on the rich Americans will create jobs (actually it did, but for China and India).
I think the American people have realized by now that trickle-down economics is never going to trickle-down. And despite any honest efforts made, their financial plight is only going to get worse...
Huey long if he were alive today would call for the stringing up of every bankster and CEO involved with the bailouts along with they're collaborators in the government. No doubt about it.
Facism is alive well in America. It is rationalized and accepted as Patriotic by Republicans and Democrats. They forget government for the people and by the people. While the average American become unemployed and poorer they continue to give money away in the form of bail outs and tax breaks to these corporate theives. Corporate Wellfare.

This is how the fascists do it. They use charismatic speaking, preach a "Third Way" between capitalism and socialism (all the benefits of capitalism and socialism combined, with none of the fallbacks, which is impossible), and appeal specifically to the populist leanings of the lower middle class. That's how Hitler did it. That's how Mussolini did it. That's how Wilson did it. And that's what Long was doing before he was shot. Had he lived, we all may be Bellamy saluting the Blue Eagle today.
@thenutintheushanka18 Even his adversaries praise his honesty and hard work. The least you can do is to praise someone who served his country and his community the best he could, and the facts speak for themselves. From roads, schools and hospitals being built to helping and protecting the poor from the greed and unmercy of the powerful.
What did you do for your country fellowmen? what did you do for your society? what did you achieve, and what did you deliver?
MLK was a republican. If you really look into Herbert Hoover, you will find that he used the Communist label to turn people against MLK and other leaders he did'nt
@coolmamac Republicans aren't what they used to be. The roles of the republican party and democratic party have switched from Lincoln's days.

A great man way ahead of his time. Naturally, when you help the poor and take from the rich to do it, you get assassinated. He built 3,000 miles of roads in LA, 111 bridges, gave out free text books which before him only the wealthy could afford, established free hospitals that are still in existance today, saw how corrupt Washington was and would have won the 1936 election. Huey took from the rich and helped the poor. What crumbs left over, he kept for himself and his. Let's compare that to others, who took what they could and gave the crumbs to the people.
"How many men ever went to a barbecue and would let one man take off the table what's intended for nine tenths of the people to eat?
