It's very easy to get caught up 'in the moment' at a live show, and what you hear coming thru the big speakers with all the added effects (reverb, delay, chorusing, etc.) and live ambience will make it sound great. I don't doubt for a minute that they sounded great at this show. However, with my 45+ years as a sound engineer, I can tell that this tape was "sweetened" back in the studio. You can clearly hear Carl's voice double tracked.
I was at this Concert and the BBoys sounded so incredible that afternoon..There Best July 4th Concert of them all. Brian Wilson was also there and looking very fit, but didn't take the lead on any of the songs..but what the hey, the BBoys have made it without him for a long long time onstage.

Mike did the leads on so many of the Beachboys best songs so leave him alone. He has the voice we so love in LOADS of BB's songs! The guys resolved their personal issues so that's between them only. All personal relationships have issues/that's what makes us human.
