Audacity recording computer (for Vista!)

ok, i have an issue. whenever im recording, (especially guitar) the first few seconds of the recording are good, you can see normal sound waves on the screen, but shortly after beginning the recording, the waves drop to about a half an inch wide, and the sound quality is muffled and it sounds like im recording with a potato. any way to fix this?

Omg dude i got the stereo mix to turn on and i can finally record streaming stuff :D

1 problem:When i record, i hear the music im playing, but it echoes an extremely large amount to where i can barely hear what the music is playing... anyway to make it record normal?

I cant set the stereo mix as the deafault recording device

@piratesonline1 Well, make sure that you right click (vista this is of course) and then go show Disabled and show Disconnected devices. There should be a greyed out Stereo mix that came with your soundcard. Disable any other microphones and set that one as default

Go into preferences and make sure the box that says "Play other tracks while recording new ones" is checked.

when i righ click on the blank space and select show devices, it does not bring up any new devices.

I figured it out u just disable your other sound device and set the other one as default then u have to have some recording device so it goes to the stereo!

Unfortunatly it stopped working for me. I can't get it to work because when i record it says device error. Oh well i have to figure it out again.

Just try all my steps then restart your computer. also running audacity in xp and administrator might fix your problem!

My computer does not have Stereo Mix. I hate how ppl make videos about how to get it by clicking "show disabled devices"! Kinda makes me jealous.....

@cooper3330 Try download the latest audacity. Bear in mind that you can also set recording though Audacity prefrences (Control P). In the device section, it says recording. From the drop down menu, hit Stereo mix. :)
