Nice Demo!!! Thank you for showing that. For those others that are interested. Newer meters/reconditioned meters including the mechanical Type that is shown in this video does have anti reverse. The newer LCD digital type do show an error message if they detect going in reverse.

In this case, it is an old fashioned meter shown and the utility will never know if electricity has been flowing in reverse. Modern electronic meters however can tell the utility a lot more than just power measurement.... a flow direction change for example is a red flag that something is funny and to have someone come out to investigate. If you are going to do this with a newer meter, you best only supplement your consumption but not send it through backwards.
@iamafractal you may not need a net meter as i varys state by state if you are not planning on exporting power. What you will need which is a national code, is a UL approved inverter. The utlitiy has the right to shut you down because they can say a non UL inverter tied to there grid is an unsafe practice. Welcome to the big brother factor and it will be getting worse with smart meters.
HA! I love this video! Westar Energy gave me the run-around when I questioned them about going grid-tie with my system and offered me a small fraction of what they charge for the excess power I produce. I think it's time to go Guerilla Solar on them with a grid-tie inverter and start getting what they are charging me! They will never even KNOW it!

Cool idea. But, I'm I seeing this right. One 85 watt solar panel doesn't even charge 1 one hundred watt light bulb? Is this right?

Dude, I hope you are joking.

@mozilla700 YES BUT, YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT WHAT THIS PANEL WILL DO OVER TIME IN THE SUN.
DO THE MATH AND SEE WHAT THIS THING WILL SAVE YOU IN IT'S LIFE TIME.

what happens if you use an inverter without getting a net meter?
