@gturner38 You're absolutely right. Not sure why I mixed that up because I certainly knew. I haven't missed a Grand Prix in 30+ years and have seen LOTS of changes; it's difficult to keep all those changes & corresponding years completely accurate in my memory bank.
@macee17 U would shit ur fucking panties going 220+ miles an hour in an indycar as u would in the f1 ferrari there is certainly no differance when it comes to speed Indycar don't need tech u fucking tech geek so go fuck urself!
@150peacemaker Just an FYI: This F1 car did NOT race on slicks; it is simply fitted with slicks now. The F2003-GA(named for Gianni Agnelli) ran grooved Bridgestones. '03 was smack in the middle of the grooved tire war between Bridgestone and Michelin. Narrow track cars along w/ grooved tires were mandated for '98. Michelin eventually quit F1, then Bridestone supplied all tires for a few years. Grooved tires were run until '08. Bridgestone quit after '08, & Pirelli slicks came on in '09.
As for the cars being worth millions, the Ferrari might be, but the Indycar isn't. It didn't cost a million new and as an obsolete race car it would likely sell for about 100-200 grand at auction. A 1989 Lola Indycar sold for $153,000 at Barrett Jackson in 2005 but a 1989 March sold for $65,000 this year. Still great cars all the same.
The F1 car is better overall (obviously). Also, Indy Cars are not pieces of junk either.
Obviously this video isn't meant to compare the two (read the title) and this event was meant to raise money. I'd love to see these cars in person, fantastic pieces of engineering.
indycar looks like an obsolete trash truck compared to an F1 ferrari. Sorry for indy fans, but our european racing is thousand times more advanced technologically and sofisticated than any american style.
@macee17 your european racing should be a "thousand times better" considering a last place f1 team spends more money per season than all the indy car teams put together
@964fan yeah that's true. But F1 was aways about pulling more and more money into development. Sadly it's bitching today, as there's a spending limit, stupid rules and all is about just the cash and not the real racing. That's really sad, because races are not exciting anymore, and made-up champions took the cup. (Vettel...) etc. I really hate what F1 became since 2009 - FUCK FIA and Bernie Ecclestone. All is just about profit in this world. Anything else is secondary or worse. And that's sad.
I enjoy watching Indy more than F1. I think it's more of a raw race, and there is more parody. There is fuel strategy too. F1 feels like it's a race between 3 drivers every time, less passing, and I think the F1 is easier to drive with all that down force.
Wich one was which lol and was the 9 target car Juan Pablo montoyas? The target car looked like a stingray and the other looked like it was from the 80s
The beauty of the American open wheel race car is its versatility. They are meant to be an all-around package while not being focused on one type of circuit. The CART/Champcar was a much better example of this than the current Indy Car, but I imagine that will change in the next couple of years.
@KHI29SMOKE14 this year F1 has waaaaay more passes, because of the new introduced device (movable rear wing) that allows the car behind to gain a lot of speed and pass on a straight line.
the f1 had one major overtaking problem due to the simple fact that the cars were too fast and had too much aero downforce... No room for trying anything, its that simple, but the two last years they slowed the cars down and worked to make overtaking easier.
But overtakes because one car's got much worse tyres, and the other car's got a flappy rear wing, feels a bit fake. I guess we'll never see much real overtaking in a highly aerodynamic road course formula however. There's plans to go back to using some ground effect, which gives downforce without creating so much wake stopping the car behind from following closely enough, hopefully that will bring more real racing to F1.
Why does everyone seem to want to compare the two? F1 cars and indy cars are both extremely good at what they are made to do. An Indy car obviously couldn't beat a F1 car on a track with a lot of turns, and a F1 car just simply couldn't beat an Indy car on an oval track. The two are designed to perform in different ways.
haha compared to the F1 the Indy car looks like it was constructed in someones garage at home. Still not too shabby though. Is it because of the aerodynamics for high speed ovals? anyone know what money goes into the development of an Indy?
@bosshunterman that's true but indy car rear wing have a strongly downforce beacause the indy car less weight than f1 ...so...without rear wing indy car can't runxD (i'm italian sorry forbad english ;))
@1994xs I'd tell you a "secret" about Indy 500 wing packages, but that'd give those "monofans" an argument. No wonder there's a rumor out there that that 80s "Indy 500 Ferrari Project" was "the worst car to be driven on an oval", according to Bobby Rahal(?) (citation needed, so I don't believe it. However, I also don't believe that thing would even reach, say, 200mph on the front stretch. Not with that rear wing)
@tangnatalaga 600 million/year (top teams) just to develop one of those things. Perhaps not 10 million to make one, but something between 1,5~6 millions each car, yeah, I'd believe...
If oval seperates then then why is it that F1 still beat an indy car on an oval track???...Didnt just beat it but after 3 laps was ahead by half a lap,lol...Was a whooping :p
A big yes I'm serious and of course I'm also aware that the steering wheel on my John Deer Lawnmower is more Expensive than the entire budget of all f1 teams, and here's the shit mate f1 is a pure crap and Indy Cars are awsome, just incase you want to reply on this one well here my answer "I Don't Give a Shiet" adios amigo.

@MrToits Is that why the IRL gets such good ratings on TV? And just how many countries outside the U.S. and Brazil, is the IRL more popular than F1 in? Indy is just the midway point between F1 and NASCAR.
You serious? Your obviously unaware in the difference in budgets. F1 teams have a budget of like £300,000,000 per year. The steering wheel on an F1 car alone is worth more than an Indy car lmao. The F1 steering wheel can control the fuel mapping as well as other things. F1 cars have a power to weight ratio of around 1500 Hp to the ton. Indy is poor mans racing.

@1994xs F1 cars have very big downforce, even without wings(but still have better accelerate than indy car)
F1 cars designed for awesome power/weight ratio, and that makes the amazing acceleration, and that's why the very fast cornering.
Indy car's wings and body designed for less air drag and downforce for well balanced downforce/top speed
But F1 cars are still definitely faster ;)

Indy car's minimum weight: 691kg (for ovals) 725kg (for road courses)
