Awesome....darn it..Now I see this video and Christmas is over. I might have to put the tree up again and do a Post Christmas Weekend Christmas to make these.
My mom only has a wood stove and once it goes out (which it does easily), it takes awhile to get it lit again. I saw this idea in Birds & Blooms, but I appreciate the video of how it's done. I can't wait to start making these! Plus, her home will smell good :)
@knightbook1003 I'd say get a larger pot, put in a screen or something to keep the can from toughing the bottom of the pot, pour in water until it's about 1/3 full and set it on the burner, then put some wax in your can to weigh it down and set it in the pot. then turn on the heat and add the desired amount of wax. using a double boiler greatly reduces the chances that the wax will get too hot and ignite in your can.
I don't understand the confusion. These aren't candles. The string is simply a 'handle to facilitate dunking. Trim the string (or leave it on, doesn't matter) and toss into fire place. They will help start the fire, burn colorfully and give of a perfumed scent. I dont melt wax in a pot. I wash out a canned food can so when I'm done I don't have to deal with the clean-up.
Verra & Pink - the pine cones ARE flammable and are not dangerous to use because this is a video on how to make a fire starter. These aren't supposed to be candles. :) I think it's ingenious.
What a sweet idea. But since real pine cones are flammable, it is too dangerous to use real pine cones. I'd rather make a mold of pine cones so that you can poor wax into that, istead of using real ones. Think of the squirrels! :)
@Verradonairun Ahm - pinecones are flammable - yes - you are making firestarters - you NEED to make it out of something flammable. BTW, wax is flammable too!!! Sheesh!
MUTE! incessant christmas music= the worst part of christmas.

@CookiesxRawrx u light the wick....
snowman358 6 months ago
@CookiesxRawrx If you can't work that out for yourself, you probably shouldn't be playing with fire anyway...

@PrettyBonesArt Didn't see the wick. I must have been exhausted when I saw the video. Plus I commented 8 months ago, so yeah.....

@CookiesxRawrx Well, if you didn't see the wick, the question is understandable. :-)

What is a firestarter? I mean, besides the obvious. Do you throw it in a fireplace or what?
