WOW! I've been playing guitar for 3 years and thought it was about time I started to get familiar with celtic guitar (I'm a third generation Irish American). This was just too beautiful, I am inspired. Thanks for your post!
Your playing is beautiful, but I was just as impressed with the sound on this video. How did you get this sound just sitting in front of your computer (I assume)? It's phenomenal. I've been trying to mix some Celtic guitar styles with North African influences. Nowhere as nuanced as your playing, but check "Rosetta West - Yallah," if you can.
Now that I am thinking about it, I wonder what it was like, Was there a lament for his first wife? I wonder what she was like. The only known melody of his obsession for his second wife, I'm going through that now. The first wife thing eh...
i wish i could play like you hehe, maybe you should post a video about how to play some celtic on the guitar hehe, well if you do or not thanks anyway
@MWRiff I'm confused as well - that guitar looks more Spanish than Celtic - I suppose an electric guitar with the plug pulled out would an electric acoustic!
Joking aside, that is a beautiful piece of musicianship.
Very nice. I play this tune on a big chromatic D Harmonica. Have not posted it. I am a song writer who also plays a lot of traditional music. On You Tube it's at Johncostermusic > channel. This tune is not there, just a few songs and one trad medley.on guitar and harp. More soon. Your coda is nice, also as a break, during the piece, not anything I've seen in the written music.Lovely playing. JC
The first time I heard this song was on David Russel's cd, I was blown away by the sincerity, and emotion he played it in. I listened to him play it at least 10 more times after that. I've heard it twice by different artists, and can honestly there versions don't even come as near as great as your version and david russel's version both are splendid.
if you have cd for sale i will be your first customer.if you were a teacher , i would be your first student. unfortunately iam in the other side of your world:( i am greatly thanking you for sharing your masterpiece and i will challenge myself to be 1/2 as good as you.
i have been playing charango, quena , irish flute, dizi, hulusi ( gourd flute), chinese xiao, zampona, yang qing( hammered dulcimer), suling (indonesian flute),electric organ. Now i want to play guitar badly like you. for all this time I never like guitar, because no one inspired me the way you did.
Gorgious. I have been playing fiddle foe nearly ten years and love the ever enchanting celtic folk songs. I have now begun to teach myself guitar and would greatly appreciate some advice on how to get started. Thank you.

I'm gona play it to this christmas in my recital. thanks for this video!
i love celtic music, thank you for sending this i love it, hey have you ever heard of richard searles? i believe that's how you spell his name, he makes the most beautiful celtic music i've ever heard i use to have a cd of his but i let someone borrow it and i never got it back, dumb brother of mine, well check that guy out when you get the chance:)
I'm trying to purchase the sheet for me, but it doesn't have PayPal. Could you send it to me? Thank you.

Bernard brings so much tenderness to this great eighteenth century lament that it almost makes me hurt. If only Niel Gow could hear it!
