Mine does the same whistle and she won't talk when someone is over only after they leave. How did you get yours to come out of your cage? Is it hand fed?
My brother had a cockatiel named Peaches when he was in high school.
One day he flew away because he was riding on our dad's shoulder when he went outside and got scared.
We found him in a tree a couple of streets down but it was too high for us to get up there and he got scared and flew off again.
2 years later we were in the car when I noticed a "found" sign on the street corner near our house. Went to go check it out and it turns out he flew away from whoever it was taking care of him and
a neighbor saw him sitting on the rear view mirror of a car and took him in a few weeks before I spotted the ad.
He didn't recognize us at first, was missing part of a toe and was nervous.
However, after he calmed down he started to do his old songs and tricks and reclaimed his roost.
He seems calmer though, like he had time to mate while he was out there because he was no longer exhibiting the nesting behavior or trying to hump our hands. He's going to be about 15 years old next year.
thats so sad these birds are awesome! 2 years dang if my bird flew away id chase him no matter what if he goes up a tree im grabbing an ice pick and goin upp after him lol
the story of how Peaches showed up on your door is kinda how our one we had was found walking in the middle of the road by my aunt and uncle, no one claimed her so we kept her. She was extremely claim, and a pearl one, so we called her Pearly. She was a sweetie but died about two years after finding her =[
where do you live because i live in new jeresey and my cockatiel named pearly who was a pearl cockatiel flew away one day and we never saw her again :(
We got our tiel from a tree in our yard, couldn't find the owner. Then I obtained a beautiful albino lutino female tiel & cage from a young Mom of small children who didn't have time anymore for her. So now I am the proud Mama of two tiels.
There are SO many stray tiels out there. People need to be more responsicle. Anyhow, We got one of our tiels when it landed on our roof in our backyard. My dad called it over and it flew straight to him. We've had it for over a year now. :)
Peaches is just lovely! I know how you feel, my partner and I found a cockatiel one day in our front yard, no one claimed him, so we named him Johnny Cash and he is now part of our 'lil family. Such beautiful birds, so clever too!
Hmm....my bird sings and makes all kinds of noises when he's playing with his toys, or if he gets mad when we leave the room, but other than that, he's SUPER quiet. He'll sit quietly on his cage and nap for hours on end. However, a piece of millet definitely perks him up.
Peaches pretty much stopped much of that after we bought him a 'tiel "pal" (Pepper), who now makes most of the noise. I'll have to do a vid of him -- he's a hoot, too. I still come back here to watch this and see what Peaches *used* to be like. Oh well.
My boy Harvey talks, sings, dances but after we got Molly for him he started talking less and she picked it up. From what I understand females do not talk..my girl does! My man says Harvey quit talking because he could not get a word in. Ha, ha.
Since we got him a 'tiel friend to hang with, he's expanded his repertoire considerably -- along with "outside" bird sounds. But he doesn't say "what a pretty bird" any more. :-(
Peaches is more of a girl name imo

If I didn't know my bird was downstairs in her cage, I'd swear that was her. Uncanny. Same whistles, same kissy noises.
