We are all supposed to be soldiers according to our greatest leaders, and most of us are still the sheep that we were in the eastern world. We have failed to keep our promise to keep this country truly free. When a shooting happens its a reminder of the right to bear arms against any corruption foreign and domestic.
Common sense might have been the State of Virginia, having already declared the VTech assailant mentally defective and therefore not responsible for his actions, denying his purchase of the gun(s). The right to bear arms didn't fault the victims, the arms themselves didn't fault the victims, even the insane individual at the trigger didn't fault the victims, but the State of Virginia did.
Ask a hardened criminal to give up his guns if they become outlawed, see what happens. A law obiding citizen, they will reluctantly give them up. Now you got an unarmed citizen, and an armed criminal, how is this safer again?
Here's the problem with the "mental health" issue, define "mental health" and does it mean that somebody who is mentally sick, but not violent, be denied their right to self defense. The problem is that you can't "Minority Report" life. No one knows who's going to "snap" so the best offense is a good defense. Let the people defend themselves and the people around them. Based on interviews I've seen, Cho could've been easily taken out by a law abiding CCW holder. Every one just ducked and hid.

The arbitration system we have has much more to do with the murder rate than firearms. If you only criminalize coercive acts and legalize all voluntary acts the crime rate would go down as much as is humanly possible.
New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Boston, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Cleveland and all other such slums have this in common: they're populated by Democrats. And I certainly won't do a thing to keep Democrats and their fellow travelers, good riddance cases one and all, from thinning out their population.
Yesterday 64 million registered gun owners didn't kill anyone. How can anyone not understand this..."A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed". IT IS THE SECOND AMENDMENT of the Constitution of the United States of America.
@hughster41 just because the founders initially meant the constitution to be permanent unfortunately law makers will still find a way to skirt around the issue. Just look at the former DC gun bans, or Chicago for that matter. That is why we need to stay on our feet on knowing our rights and defending them. Many of our rights have been impeded on but many ppl haven't noticed.
The government banning guns has absolutely nothing to do with all the mass killings in the workplace and inner urban violence. The government could give two squats about VA Tech type shootings or gangs killing off one another. These are merely fronts to the main reason why they want a national confiscation, and this is because the govt knows that to take away the guns from the citizens is to control the citizens.
@pete5668 Did that really happen? I couldn't help but laugh at that. I could just see her standing there staring at him after he said that. Man I want to be that Marine. RECOIL!
i wish training in saftey and cqb training were part of buying guns. i'm a life member of the nra so i'm for the ownership of it. but i think that a pistol is requires far more understanding than a car, or at least as much. guns aren't toys(i despise the fake ones that are), they aren't evil, but they deserve utmost respect. i'm sorry or prayer doesn't bring back someone from the dead if its mishandled. but at same time guns can save lives if used properly, and are hella fun to plink with.
Common sense? I'll give her some common sense. If you take guns away from students so that it creates a concentrated area of unarmed sitting ducks, then lunatics are going to shoot it up to commit their evil acts. Shootings happen at unarmed places like schools and hospitals, yet shootings somehow never happen at gun-saturated places like police stations and gun shows. It's common sense; more guns=more protection. The one evil guy with a gun will get shut down immediately, it's basic logic.
Government statistics say Gun Control is bad. Do a search for "John Stossel Links Gun Control to Higher Crime Rates". It pertains to the Gun Ban in Washington DC that was in effect for 30 years.
You do not need a gun to kill a lot of people. Do a search on youtube put this in search (Arrest in Tokyo Mass Stabbing). He stabbed 17 people in just a couple minuets if he knew where to stab all would have bleed to death in two minuets. A school hall between class think of how many he could have stabbed.

We have the courage to speak our minds and not fear retribution from you liberals that want to dictate to the rest of the nation how all of us should live.
You liberals control the banks and are getting ready to control health-care. When was the last time government control over anything was a good thing?

"You have the right to a meal without the smell of cigarette smoke and well regulated chinese toys with no lead paint........and two dadies".
Why do people think that you can take a person's rights away because of some kind of mental illness? I don't get that. Does it say "unless you're mentally ill" at the bottom of the second amendment?
No, it comes from many many rulings and writings giving guidance to who is a citizen and who is able bodied. Citizens are generally American NON FELONS.The militia is to be made up of all able bodied citizens. If you are socially dysfyunctional and wish to kill others for no reason. You are not able bodied. Allowing the mentally deranged to own guns leads to things like Virginia Tech. While allowing the average mentally retarded person a gun usually is not of great concern in comparison.
banning guns on school campuses leads to things like virginia tech. I seriously doubt that the guy who shot all those people was following every gun law.
So who defines "mentally ill"? Am I mentally ill because I really like guns and own almost 20? Am I mentally ill because I fought in a war and now have PTSD? Who's to say?
Why are you asking me? I'm not the one who wants the government deciding who can and can't have weapons based on their idea of mental illness. I think it's dangerous to give the government the power to decide who is mentally ill and who isn't. They might decide that libertarians are mentally ill for all I know, after all they have decided that if you have a Ron Paul sticker on your car then you're a possible militia member or domestic terrorist.
I dont want to sound too far fetched here because I actually think very deeply about things. I am one who condones ones right to protect their property. But it will not be passed so far as guns kill more and more people on the streets everyday. I think we should invest more and more into gun control technology. A certain system that allows people to hold guns within their house. If a gun is either moved or breached a signal will be sent to the local law enforcement group that will react to it.
I think with that after several up to date background checks, it will be okay to outlaw all firearms not properly secured in their places. Its not a terrible idea nor is it the any bit scientifically impossible. Certain things can be levied, like maybe you can tough it but the signal goes off whenever the safety goes off. It does not seem like a bad idea. Remember it is the second amendment of the constitution which due to its clause is the supreme law of the land.
buddy your heart is in the right spot but look up Warren Vs. The district of columbia.....The police are not there to save you, they are not liable if you die because they didn't make it. Only one individual is responsible for your safety YOU!

Yeah, make sure big brother has absolutely all information on everyone at all times, what can possibly go wrong? Oh come now, just because it's always happened repeatedly in the past... doesn't mean it'll happen again right?
The phrase "common sense" is a dangerous one because the gun grabbers use it to imply that uneccisary and worthless "feel-good" restrictions should be a no-brainer. Waiting periods aren't common sense, I can wait 10 days to buy a gun legally and fill out all the paperwork or buy one in 20 minutes for cheap. Letting the gov't know what guns you have is common sense? What if we need to use them against the gov't like our Founding Fathers? The only thing that's common sense is freedom and liberty.
Shake up the political establishment. Restore the constitution, repair foreign policy and bring back monetary sanity. Ron Paul for president spread the word. Go to ronpaul2008,com our liberties are in the balance. This is not part of the official campaign; I'm just a concerned citizen.

Like everyone says, if you ban guns no "bad guy" is gonna say, "well, I was going to shoot these people, but now guns are illegal so I better not." They will get an illegal weapon or kill them some other way. 99.999% of gun owners are peaceful, law abiding citizens. It's that .001% we have to watch out for.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Get real. Britain banned the handgun for the common good and they have 30 times less fatal shootings than in America. Your choice. Let the NRA dictate policy or organize.
Yes. Except we're not Britain. We LEFT Britain, because we were tired of tyranny. We came here to be FREE. Just because people lose their minds and go killing others with guns illegally doesn't constitute a ban on guns. Remember, when guns become outlawed, only outlaws will have them. Think about it.
@Stevensworkshop Absolutely... this incident could have been stopped earlier if law abiding students could have had a legal concealed handgun on campus. Laws will never keep someone who wants to commit a crime from doing it (they are only a deterrent). I'm lucky I live in OR where it legal to conceal carry on public campuses or properties (with some exceptions of course).
@Stevensworkshop and who do you think gave you trial by jury, the death penalty, freedom of speach, the bill of rights, your 2nd amedment (YES WE GAVE YOU THAT), common law system...etc you need to do some resarch lot of things that you lot have came directly or indirectly came from the UK,....eg. the right to bear arms came indirectly from our bill of rights which states that the "subjects.....may have arms for they defence....as allowed by law...."
That was just retarded! If one other person had a gun in that university, the shooter could have been taken out. Virginia Tech President, VP, and Directors should be held responsible! They took away those people's Second Amendment right to defend themselves. If it were up to the Leftists, only the criminals would have guns and we would all be sitting ducks.
Best thing I've ever heard from CBS News and Katie Couric. I thought for sure I was going to hear a tirade against Charleton Heston and the NRA but what I heard instead is Couric presenting the truth from good people (whoever that Democrat is, I'm impressed) who realize that this is a fluke and that the Virginia Tech mass killer in in no way, shape, or form representative of the millions of legal gun owners in this country.
If some psycho wants a gun they will find a way to get a gun. All the laws in the world won't stop someone who already wants to go shoot people from getting a gun.
The amendment dosen't mean people "need guns" The amendment is there to give us the freedom to be able to protect one's self from the government should it become a tyrant. As for needing guns, if you were to have someone break into your house to try to either, 1.Rob you, 2.Rape You,3.Kill You, or 4. All the above. would you feel better at having the means to protect yourself, or pray that the police will get their in time, to try and stop whatever is going on?
So its too bad people guns are usually used for hunting and target practice/sporting... I don't see why its a bad thing they are used for these purposes in addition to self defense.
There are millions of Americans who own guns and haven't killed another human being. That being said, we need a better gun-control law, but lack of a good gun-control law is not the cause of violence.
We are all supposed to be soldiers according to our greatest leaders, and most of us are still the sheep that we were in the eastern world. We have failed to keep our promise to keep this country truly free. When a shooting happens its a reminder of the right to bear arms against any corruption foreign and domestic.

Get real. Britain banned the handgun for the common good and they have 30 times less fatal shootings than in America. Your choice. Let the NRA dictate policy or organize.
barryconnolly65 4 years ago
Yes. Except we're not Britain. We LEFT Britain, because we were tired of tyranny. We came here to be FREE. Just because people lose their minds and go killing others with guns illegally doesn't constitute a ban on guns. Remember, when guns become outlawed, only outlaws will have them. Think about it.
Stevensworkshop 4 years ago 81
@Stevensworkshop Absolutely... this incident could have been stopped earlier if law abiding students could have had a legal concealed handgun on campus. Laws will never keep someone who wants to commit a crime from doing it (they are only a deterrent). I'm lucky I live in OR where it legal to conceal carry on public campuses or properties (with some exceptions of course).

@Stevensworkshop correction: when guns become outlawed, there will be a revolution of all the millions of lawful gun owners in the United States.

Enforcing liles already on the books? For that money, they could have done another take.

If some psycho wants a gun they will find a way to get a gun. All the laws in the world won't stop someone who already wants to go shoot people from getting a gun.

Why do people even need guns? Is there even a need to have it as an amendment?
LovelyMalevolence 4 years ago
The amendment dosen't mean people "need guns" The amendment is there to give us the freedom to be able to protect one's self from the government should it become a tyrant. As for needing guns, if you were to have someone break into your house to try to either, 1.Rob you, 2.Rape You,3.Kill You, or 4. All the above. would you feel better at having the means to protect yourself, or pray that the police will get their in time, to try and stop whatever is going on?

too bad that guns are usually used for other purposes
LovelyMalevolence 2 years ago
Your evidence to support that statement is what? You can't just make claims without evidence, otherwise it's bullshit.
forestgump18 2 years ago 2
and what data do you have that says this?
rommelAOE 2 years ago
So its too bad people guns are usually used for hunting and target practice/sporting... I don't see why its a bad thing they are used for these purposes in addition to self defense.
videohaure 2 years ago
There are millions of Americans who own guns and haven't killed another human being. That being said, we need a better gun-control law, but lack of a good gun-control law is not the cause of violence.
