i have a cb400f im restoring same exact year. anyway the mufler is rusted and i wanted to run it without it for a while would that hurt the engine? i know they need back pressure so just wondering,

do four strokes need backpressure? i don't think so. Only two stroke. I you ride without the header you would burn your exhaust valves.

they just need a pipe, doesn't matte if it is straight, or have a muffler in it...

if you run your engine without any sort of pipe, your exaust valves may be damaged (burned)

not really, but it will run crappy. these things are sencitive to exhaust changes. id just run a couple of glasspacks
