We are not very good but I just love trying to play his blues music. He was truly special and unique. I can't stop thinking about him when I try to play one of his songs.
i remeber reading and laughing at that list a few years ago, didnt they have duane alman at number 2.....i mean cmon, yeah good guitarist but...........
Gary is a sincere and talented player of the blues eventhough he seems more at home as a rock guitarist.....IMO he too often tends to overplay for the sake of it ...this does seem to be the fashion since Stevie Ray hit the scene.......this solo is virtually note for note from the Green original....
There is a constant of being unworthy of the virtuosity and the quality of the Gentleman Moore. Nevertheless I believe that those who criticize the gentleman Moore are failures of the music, envious and desiarìan to be in Gary's fingers. I am a guitarist and can assure that it is not not easy at all to touch the guitar as Gary Moore. Mario Navarro from Argentina
I thought fast and techical gutitar playing is everyting about playing guitar like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai until I hear Gary Moore. Gary changed my perspective of playing guitar.
@drpakman Then I will suggest you try to hear the real mastro Peter Green, then you will hear real blues, with a vibrato, tone and feeling who´s second to none.
Ofcourse Gary deserves to be mentioned in the RS's top 100,
but then again, what the F****. However IMO in this track Gary and especially the band is playing like they're lying in the sun on a lazy sunday afternoon and that's not what the song needs.
Your comment was a while back but I totally agree with you. I remember buying this album in '95 and thinking it was pretty good... that is until I heard the original versions! There seems to be a complete failure both in the studio version and this live performance, to bring this track to life. They've managed to turn this from a cigarettes and alcohol track into a cup of horlicks song.
That said, I don't mean to disrespect Gary Moore as a musician because he is undoubtedly talented.
When I was in England in '95, I remember seeing many posters up in the Tube stations for the Blues For Greeny album. Good on him for doin that tribute album. Still, would rather hear Greeny myself...
God I hate Gary's singing....when he plays slow...he's damn good. But he must have no idea of when he plays fast and sings...it just sounds....well, it's not my cup of tea shall I say.
Many good guitarists were left out from that list. Gary never obtained the acknowledgement that he would have deserved. The list is not worth shit! Many people criticized the list!

@bluesrock1000 I wouldn't take the rankings of that shit magazine seriously mate, they have Kurt Cobain ranked 12..... he would be luck to make 1200th
Who fucking cares about any "list"? You cannot measure the quality of music. Rankings work in the world of sports but using them on art forms is nonsense.
Thanks to Duster Bennett for writing this most beautiful and enduring of blues tunes, to Peter Green for his magnificent interpretations done so many years ago, and to Gary Moore for keeping it alive and vibrant. If there is a more heartbreakingly direct lyric, or a more powerfully moving slow blues, I haven't heard it. This is the pinnacle, kids.
@NicolletIslandSlim Agreed! This guy was a superbly outstanding artist! A real shame of such an unfortunate early death. Sadly some of the better talents are the more obscure and overlooked like Gary Moore and don't get their deserved notice until after their death. "Evil Love" is another great blues tune (among many others) that Gary did. **I well remember seeing Peter Greene do this song at his regular venue: the Boston Tea Party back in ' 69.
A brilliant version , played with feel and real blues soul. Peter Green`s out of phase Les Paul guitar is used and the tone is just right for it. Moore proves here that his blues playing is as good as it gets!

@TheGuygues
moi je te comprends entièrement :-)
Gary Moore guitariste méconnu
l'originalité n'est pas forcément synonyme de talent
mais lui en avait du talent !!!

Make your own top 100 guitarists list cuz Rolling Stones is far from perfect.

Best Blues song I've ever heard from Gary Moore (although it's Duster Bennett's song of course. Duster and Peter Green recorded it together also)
But Gary puts a lot of feeling into it here.
He usually tends to overdo things, especially during live performances, but not here.
Great!

Yes that is Greeny's ax
jsteed44 2 years ago
Is that Greenys' ax? I bet Gary can't play like that after he sold that guitar for mil, hmmm? But slow he is very melodic, very surprising

how can Gary not be in the Rolling Stone top 100 guitarists??????
there is only Slash out of all the Americans that play with anything like the soul feeling! and he is British born.

@blackpudscoffer Gary doesn't nee this LP, just his own. This sounds like GM not PG. The magic was in the fingers and soul, not the guitar.

@blackpudscoffer : he does too many covers that are rip offs and not as well done as by previous musicians.
