I only discovered steve roachs music about 3 years ago its so immense and beautiful I was blown away by his longform pieces of music the sheer depth is an emotional journey and I have about 12 albums of his now.to see him live must be an experiance and a half.
I'm an electronic ambient artist and a fan of Steve Roach's music. As a Christian his sound is so very spiritual to me. I really wish more church organizations would be open to this style of music. This performance is one of most beautiful things I have ever heard and I believe God can be praised in many ways and forms if only people wouldn't get in the way with their prejudices.

During a transitional period in my life last year I walked the labyrinth inside Grace Cathedral. I'd leave my office job every day and trot over to Nob Hill to surrender to "The Path."
Each day I became more like a mountain, more like a cloud. Now I've found this video and it gives me great insight into what I gained from my daily exercise in that beautiful heavenly realm. This is euphoria beautifully captured in a sonic experience. Thank you for posting Lee Howard's film, Dr. Leonus!
I had the privilege of attending this concert. It was about three hours of the most intense musical bliss imaginable. The light show in the Grace Cathedral provided all the visual stimuli needed. I'm looking forward to Steve releasing the concert audio.

Steve is nothing short of a musical genius. However, watching him "in concert" is nothing short of watching an AC repairman adding freon to the system.
The slow motion bit at 13:10 of him slowly raising his head and then looking back down gave me wood. Strong wood. Stronger than morning wood. Of course, I also like the AC repairman scenario too. Boredom is my fetish...
Great comment kinderprof , and i like words. Written words emanate frequency and vibration and they do have a direct effect.
I am only "now" just starting too really understand what this earth is about and my task here, strange old times and strange old lifes we live.. long path.
cathedral..archangels..saints..&what looked like a statue of a demon at one point. So may I presume this is about the rebellion in Heaven as portrayed in the Bible? That is what I think of when I hear this. And, a sort of sadness at the end..celestial friends (Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, Uriel) lost in spiritual battle, or for those that "joined the other side". Or is it just my imagination? I agree with another poster, this piece of art NEEDS to be on an album!
beautifully stated...you seem to grasp a meaning that had not been there in the original filming...Steve's work never fails to transport the listener to other worlds, soundworlds
emanating a bounteousness that exudes a harmony a peace, a resolve to life's tribulations...like a soothing balm for the soul
This selection is incredible. Steve Roach's ambient soundscapes never fail to quiet my mind and calm my spirit. The etherial footage of the cathedral is aptly meditative and dreamlike. I Love it. I need this to be available on cd.
he is one of those artists that needs to be experienced almost on a one to one basis, somewhere like this with only a few people to witness would make it so much more profound than in a conventional arena surrounded by people, im fairly sure i would forget where i was, time really has no meaning in his deep dulcet musical world
honestly what id give to listen to a set like this in a place like that. I dont think for me i could experience anything musically more intense than that, and ive been to illegal raves and done countless drugs to acid techno music as the sun rises.
your description is exactly what I feel - I go to a place of contemtment, inner peace and comfort. Grace Cathedral is a very special, holy place and there is no more fitting setting for this music.
Thanks for this post. The perfect environment for this piece. I have played similar Steve Roach pieces for weeks at a time,,, constant, unbroken, uninterrupted 24/7, it helped me prepare for the passing of someone very close to me!
I went to this show! It was something I will never forget. Although on the downside I also will remember the incredibly uptight people that can get pretty snobby if you aren't into eating organic and talking about spirituality rather than just enjoying the music for what it is.
I've known Steve Roach for many years and he continues to defy musical boundaries, he told me about this concert recently and all I'll say is I wish I was there, and yes I have all his recordings as well....awesome Steve!!!
I love Steve Roach. I have every single album of his including collaborations. I am studing psychology and for my Masters I want to study the effect of music such as this and the brain. Such as sleep and thought.
I went to his concert in Philadelphia as a part of Gathering electronic music shows. It was one of the most spectacular shows that I have ever seen. He gave an astonishing performance. I think Steve Roach is one of the most prominent musicians working in ambient tribal electronic music on the whole planet.
such an awesome ambient
