  • You can replace your glowplug system with volskwagenw idi ones.

they are temporized and do not need temp back up data.

a diesel rabbit or jetta is good for parts : on relay for one bank of you v8 and you're good !

  • woah woah woah is that a new stater or what kind of batterieries you running in that

  • drive it easy until you hear sum improvement it may be worth readjusting the lifters as well you dont wanna drive it real hard if it rod knock or be revving it wait and see if ametech canrepair it then if you hear improvement still drive it easy for at least 1,000 miles before getting it up to 65 or 70 drive it 45 and 50 thats what i did when i used the stuff i drive mine 50 and 55 cuz if it is rod knock youll beat that crank shaft flat driving it hard do more damage

  • that could be rod knock but im not sure because its a diesel im not saying for a fact but its possible try sum lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer its always cure my problems if it is rod knock try sum ametech engine restore that stuff does work ive used it i dont know how it does it but it works its blue stuff in a can u have to shake it real good b4 you pour it in id put sum lucas and ametech engine restore in it and let it idle 30 mins or so of course do this at an oil change then drive it easy

  • i have an 85 suburban diesel with the exact same noise. i wonder some times if its the vacum pump as it spins. somebody said it was the fuel pump, that could be it also.

  • that sound could also be an exhaust manifold leak.

  • Very true! Sometimes the real tiny ones can sound like valvetrain noise...

  • Hey not sure if you fixed your Problem. 700R, Does not use Vaccume To shift. It used the Kick down Cable.

  • The tick you hear is in the injector pump, and I personally wouldn't worry about it. every Stanadyne DB-2 Injector pump I've been around makes that tick at some point when they're cold. Runn 'er!

  • holy shoot that thing wheels over FAST! even for cold its like theres water in the oil pan instead of oil! thats got some good batts a good starter and some big cables.

  • Two newer interstate batteries that were (I think) rated at 1000cca each and yep, heavy gauge cables coupled to a newer starter will do it!

  • Will do on the "after" video. You could just have a lifter thats a little sticky when cold as well. I haven't warmed mine up yet/or driven it since it started ticking. I"ll have to warm it up one of these days and see if the tick goes away.

I plan on changing out that lifter and seeing if that solves my problem.

  • Sounds like my 6.2 blazer. I found excess valve lash on cylinder #1's exhaust valve. Try putting a long screwdriver or a pry bar against both valve covers and then put your ear on the handle. You should be able to hear which side that ticking is coming from. I also left my video of the ticking noise in the video response section.

  • it sounds like bad lifter sound to me!

  • kick down cable out of adjustment

  • I think that tic or clattering noise you're hearing is just a cold diesel motor sound. Most diesel motors make a lot of racket when they're cold but get quieter when they warm up. Specially the older diesels. I wouldn't worry about it until you start hearing it all the time.

I'm not a mechanic, but I've driven many vehicles with diesel motors. Trucks, buses, 18 wheelers. etc. To me this sounds like a normal, cold motor.

  • Thank you for the feedback! After a while I began thinking the same; if the noise isn't around at operating temp, it probably isn't a big deal. I'm just one of those airline pilot types that hears and wonders about every darn noise. However once I know what the sound is it won't bother me anymore. Go figure.

Probably a combination of a cold IP, injectors and block.
