I gotta say..I consider the KISS version of this song, at any given time, to be my top KISS song of all of them, I've listened to it 1000's of times...but...this version...is REALLLLLY good, and I think I'm starting to prefer it to the KISS version after many listens.
@RummansMichael Awesome man!! I was and still am big fan of HS!! You guys wrote some great tunes!! What are you up to nowadays? Hit me up when ya have time, would love to talk w/ ya!! Much respect!
@MrJohnnysinn Still rockin'-I usually post the stuff I'm doing on FB under Michael RummansMusic.
FYI, there is a second album's worth of unreleased H Stars material, produced by Neil Merryweather and I'll be looking for a way to get it released sometime.
in the good old days of Hollywood , Rodney's , and the Rainbow, I used to run into Kim now and then. He was trying to impress me(I was all of seveteen or so) , letting me know he was writing songs for KISS.. I rolled my eyes in disrespect for his intrest in KISS . Not till years later did I notice his songs , while driving my sons to music classes for guitar and drums , at the request of my sons to play KISS . Sorry KIm , I was wrong , there were some good songs . I admit it.
I'm wondering about two things....how does Paul Stanley, or anyone else in KISS get a songwriting credit on this?? It's arranged differently on Destroyer, but it was written before they got hold of it. And KIM Fowley isn't a chick?!
Buy sean Delaneys solo album "Higway". It says to Gene,paul,ace,peter...just like on the solo albums...it was at the same time to 79 i think? Sean was a guy who saw what was cool, one of the best . God bless him!
Woah, never heard this before! Great post. I knew the song had been written/played in another form by Marc Anthony's band, but didn't realise that KISS basically covered it (albeit adding a cool arrangement). I was always under the impression they co-wrote it.
WOW! I was a Hollywood Stars fan back in the pre-Punk/NewWave days when Kim Fowley was working with some of the ONLY bands a REAL teenage Rock&Roll fan could love then (H.Stars; Runaways; Quick; Venus & the Razorblades)! It's a shame none of these bands got to be as big as Kiss! Is this a demo from the original Stars lineup before Marc took over lead vocals? I've been hunting for any demos or live recordings since I was 14 & read Fowley's history of them in Bomp! magazine. Can anyone help?
Did anyone else know that Bill Aucoin, Kiss manager, was (is) gay? It was his lover (partner) that put the whole Kiss concept together from the start? Do your homework. The more I learn about how Simmons & Stanley take credit for Sean Delaney's work, from designing theit make up tp staging their show, the morte i dis-like them. Sean was the brain behind KISS - YES..... A Gay Man! Google his name and read for yourself!
Kiss KIM'S ass a little would ya. . He did lots more than JJ & Runaways. ALL his life. The ultimate animal is still kickin it and I'm not hating just admitin.
Initially I hated hearing this after having been completely indocrinated /brainwashed into thinking that "Destryoyer'" was the penultimate product of Chaim Witz & Stanley Eiesenberg.
As long as a great product came of whatever took place...I'm O.K. with that.
WOW... I've been listening to this since '78 and never knew it... I'm fukkin FLOORED... WOW.. this is incredible... VERY good in it's own right! Piss off all ya who wanna hate it, this is pretty damned hot for back in what? 75? 74?
R.I.P. Marc Anthony of the Hollywood Stars, & the songwriter of this tune. Kim Fowley didn't write this, but he "sven-gali'd" a chunk of the credits, & the publishing monies. Just like he did with the Runaways & "Toast Of The Town" by Motley Crue.
Unfortunately Marc Anthony & Ruben DeFuentes & the rest of the Hollywood Stars will end up as a footnote rather than the milestone they were. Check out their song "All The Kids On The Street".
Right on... Mark Anthony the driving force and songwriter for Hollywood Stars.
Mark told me in 1986 while we were living and playing together, that he had sold his rights to KISS's Destroyer Album...and then the next thing he knew, they had re-released the KISS album. Bummer.
Greg, You're right. Mark was an awesome songwriter and guitarist. These children who don't understand where the song originally came from, or have their head so far up Gene Simmons' ass just look stupid. Mark could write! He had hits w/ this & "Escape" for Alice Cooper, which prove just what a talent he was. I finally met him (oddly enough thru KISS) in 1990 & he was a charming person and a hell of a musician.
Theres always somebody that has to say they like this version or the demo version better than the one we all know..lol. Give me a break. KISS's version kills this wimped out version.
I don't disagree with anything you said and I'm not hating.I was simply stating the fact that quite often whenever someone hears an original or different version of a song they know and like, they comment how the different version is better, cooler etc. and I say Bull. And if you're a KISS fan and think Kim Foley's version is better then you're likely not much of a KISS fan. I respect Foley for writing the song but KISS rearranged and rewrote some lyrics and made it their own..which kicks ass.
aside any insults... i apologize... KISS Rules...!!!

Listening to this ORIGINAL version doesn't take away anything from the 'Destroyer'-KICK-ASS version of this song.
It simply acknowledges WHO WROTE THE SONG.
Kim Fowley was INSTRUMENTAL in Joan Jett/the Runaways career too.
Don't hate bro...KOTNTW by KISS will always be the BEST version.
