Considering this is a low budget TV-movie from 1977, the effects and action scenes are not that bad. Even if his ass looks a bit weird when he is climbing the walls.
Looking at the promo that's what I thought. Back when the TV series came to the UK I thought this show was the biz. They did take a "Karate" approach to all Spidey's battles which was funny.
Ha, he moves a little slower than the CGI one, but this looks better than I would have expected. Of course, I remember seeing bits of this on TV, but only a bit of building climbing really.
It was actually a very well made Tv series for the time (1978). Why it never reached the same heigths as "The Incredible Hulk" also at the time i have no idea. A dvd release is yet to be desired.
This pilot was not great but the series was pretty cool and they managed to fix most of thet fixable problems (circa late 1970s). The series got good ratings, but CBS decided to pull the plug on its super hero tv shows. Also a stunt man did the Spider-Man work.
I loved this show! Loved everything about it, the music, costume was better than the new movies, it was very well done for the time... this was the 70s people... I actually like the live-action, enough with today's computer generated effects...
No way the new movies are more for the fans of the comics including the upcoming new movie. What do you think of the other Marvel films like X-Men movies, Blade movies, Hulk 1 & 2, Iron Man 1 & 2, The Punisher movies, Fantastic Four 1 & 2 etc.?
There was no Dr. Octopus, no Green Goblin, no Rhino, No Sandman etc.
They were out on video a long time ago. Mum and I used to go to Captain Video and I would rent episodes of the Spiderman TV series back in the early 80s. Otherwise, I have yet to see this released on DVD. Maybe we should get a petition going about getting the old episodes out on DVD. :)
I loved the three original Spiderman movies in 1977, 1978 and 1978. I don't know why they never got much airplay. Until 3 years ago I never knew they existed.
Oh man... Were did you get this? That stuff was awesome!!! I was seven but i never about forgot it. And what about the music? I don't care what anyone says, the music from the shows in the 70's was the greatest.
All of these live action Spiderman movies from the seventies are the best thing to ever hit television. I worshipped these films as a kid and still do today. The music is THE BEST. This is what Spiderman would actually look like in the real world. It was such an exciting/innocent time to be a kid.
As it turns out, I wasn't a kid from the seventies..I'm from the ninteies, but I think this is one of the best Spider-mans...Nicholas Hammond is a great Spider-man, and the plots are ok. Although, they easily could have used villians from the comic book such as "The Crime Master" or "The Enforcers" but I think this is fine...plus, the show didn't get cancled do to low ratings, actully, it was one of the best shows on according to the rannkings, it was just because of the budget.
I was nine when this first came on back in '77. Every kid in class was impatiently waiting for it to come on. The true legacy of this show is that it provided Sam Raimi a blueprint of what NOT to do in a live action Spider-Man.
i have seen this even though im 16 my dad has it and loves it but i think this tanks only cuz they xcluded all the villans but i have wathced it and its ok for 1970's and with out the marvel storylines
I rather to see this spiderman than the new one because the old spiderman was a real actor at all the times and not computer graphic, like the one of the last tree movies. I bet that 50% of the new spiderman is Tobey and the other 50% is a fake computer graphic, that sucks.
Also, the music of the old spiderman really resembles the series quite good although it was labeled with the groovy 70's sound which makes a lot of suckers think of porno music.
they rolled this in cinema here in europe - and it was really amazing back then. I remember trying to climb my bedroom's wall home aftre movie heh beautiful
I remember watching this show on videotape. I loved it because it was my first exposure to Spider-Man. I agree that it's time for it to come out on DVD!
What struck me about it was the inventiveness - rather than have supervillains like Green Goblin or whatever - they instead had a dude who was running a cult mind controlling people to commit crimes - brilliant - It made it feel more authentic to me somehow - and Toby MacGuire doesn't hold a candle to Nicholas Hammond (IMO)
DAMN This show needs to be put on DVD for Spiderman 3. I LOVE this show, it's so different from the comics or movie, thats what I love about it. And you gotta give credit for some the stunts they pulled for that time. One of my favorite shows.
This was my life when I was a child. I was broken hearted when it stopped airing.
