Next time, I would suggest a skirt that fits and wont fall down(it looked bad to keep pulling it up and uncomfortable), but regardless, your dancing was nice.
Stretch skirts seem to be annoying to most dancers. This is true that these skirts show the perfect shape of hips and legs without nudity, but using a two parted skirt that reveals both legs from both sides, is either comfortable and beautyful.
i didn't particularly like her performance; she has great technical ability to execute the moves but as a dancer myself...i didn't care for her interpretation of the music. She danced only on the drums and never on the melody so it was kind of one dimensional and monotonous. i think with the right instruction and tutor she could be pretty good though.
So Turkish is just Turkish and Gypsy is just Gypsy? I wonder what the Turkish Roma in the Sulukule district of Istanbul would say about this? The Turkish Roma have a distinctive style that's quite different than for example Russian Gypsies who dance quite differently from Spanish Gypsies who dance differently than Egyptian Ghawazee..... and so on and so forth.
Don't die of shock darling but the American idea of "Gypsies" in wide skirts and tambourines is pure fantasy. Dancers who do this wouldn't know real Gypsy if it came and bit them on the ass. Why don't you try checking out what Artemis Mourat or Eva Cernik have to say about Turkish Romani dance. You might just learn a thing or two...
Okay you people who are complaining about the title, it's perfectly obvious that you didn't read the description of this video. I love this dance and think you did a marvelous fusion. However, don't wear a costume that's too big when you perform on stage since your tugging it back up distracts from the dance and is entirely unprofessional. Take it in next time with some safety pins or wear a smooth cotton belt beneath the costume.
It said right in the description she knows it is not pure Beledi....mix of latin stuff....Don't label it beledi then! it is not...it is called FUSION when it is a mix. And maybe find more appropriate music for your dance, if you did this to Shakira no problem. P.S. Toupee tape works great for slippery costumes! :)
ay caramba! Cha-cha-cha baladi:-) Just kidding. Still, baladi has a very special character and attitude to it. That streetwise village girl persona that's so effortless for Egyptian women to achieve - and almost impossible for everyone else. This certainly isn't it
I've been studying belly dance for about 10 years and after close to master the moves I still feel like a salsa dancer trying to bellydance I keep feeling there is something I just can't grasp, like the escence of it all: and you just explained it to me. <That streetwise village girl persona> sounds about right. I'm going to practice from that angle. Thanks
Hi Cachita, glad I could help:-) As a half Dutch/half Filipina dancer desperately trying to learn to dance "proper" Turkish Romani (Gypsy) style I completely empathize with your efforts. I find that trying to understand the culture of the countries where these dances originate helps- as well as watching "native" dancers over and over (and over...) again
Hi Chickiboom: Well I'm glad somebody understands me, this is hard to learn and explain for me. So you are Dutch and Filipina, it sounds like a very interesting mix, you probably look very exotic. Do you have any videos of yourself here?
if any one knows the name of this song i would love to know, over all she is a really good dancer well done, however she does need to close her legs more and she really needs to develop he own style she danced the exact same song and did moust of the same movements as a very famouse lebanese bellydancer.
I don't think she was very good. I mean compared to many others I have seen, she was okay, but not too entertaining. I'm not saying I'm better or she's bad, just that she's needs to liven things up and she needs to incoporate more arm movements throughout her performance.
She is very pretty and dances well... the only thing I see is that she would have to close her legs a little bit in some steps, and shoulder shimmy should be done more delicate too.. but in general very good
