Not all pig farms are this disgusting. I used to work on one. Everyone there was OCD about cleanliness and sanitation.

Generally, places this dirty usually don't stay in business for very long because their meat is of lower quality due to stress and hormones, thus not selling well enough to keep them up and running for more than a few years at best.

I suggest reading Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Very imformative and eye opening book. Pollan describes how these animals are meant to live and how amazing nature works together for the health of animals and humans. Sustainable farming is not only very realistic, its best for eveyone and everything.

Besides, doesn't it make sense that sick animals will = sick humans???

Sorry, but the "pig camp ground" with little metal huts in a nice green field is some kind of fantasy land that doesn't exist anywhere. And if they did, given the number of hogs produced in this country, they would take up millions of acres of wildlife habitat already being consumed by Americows as a result of urban sprawl.

Well, maybe if people ate a little more *gasp* fruits and veggies--and not stuff their face with meat and bread at every meal,humanely raised animals could easily accommodate the population. Very informative - Although I would never eat anything with a face :) At the very least these animals destined to be on someone's menue should be treated with some kind of compassion. And allowed at the very least to follow their natural instincts.

i am currently buying my meat from local farmers, where the animals are treated with dignity and not abused before slaughter.i will not endorse factory farming or condone the practices that the USDA deems acceptable.

in my country, holland, the situation is simalar. in 2008 the rights to keep pigs ill be free for anyone and big industries are already planning to build fascilities to store over 20.000 pigs. Society (the people, teh market, the consumers) seems to be unaware of what is happening, uninterested or is just not able to pay the high prices one asks for ecological meat. i thank you for posting the vid, although it makes me sick to watch
