  • This is the 1st BC108 Sunface demo I've seen that properly-shows off that Eric Johnson silicon FF sound. Most people don't seem to know how to make a fuzz sound GOOD. You can't just play like you're using a Boss DS-1.... You have to finesse it as you would with most high-gain fuzzes. When I play guitar, I tend to keep my pick rotated a bit off-center so I can use the edge of it (More tonal options), and that's exactly how you need to approach these old-school fuzzes. Can't attack it straight-on.

  • Hi vela,i've heard that the Sunface doesn't work well combined with digital effects,is it real in your opinion?

    Thanks

  • @Derveregun Well, I definitely prefer analog effects, but the Sunface sounds just fine with digital effects in the chain, so long as the fuzz is put first. Other than that, it sounds just great with either digital or analog pedals.

  • @Derveregun I have an analogman sunface bc183/bc182 and it actually makes some pedals useless. You don't hear my smallstone when it's placed after the fuzz, my mojovibe isn't his best buddy, a chorus behind the fuzz sounds ugly, ...really some kind of a problemchild. But a sweet one ;)

  • holy shit that was awesome dude i love that sound i have just ordered my self a kit fuzz face silicon transistor cool stuff dude

  • sounds great!

  • nice tone and playing! Can you tell me why you picked BC108 instead of NKT275? I am interested in both and I am still thinking which to pick. I play post rock, shoegaze and some sort of indie stuff. Btw, hv u tried MXR carbon delay? It sounds really good and I think you may like it too :)

  • Actually, I bought the NKT275 a couple years ago and I didn't like it at all. To me, it had very little fuzz to it. It also had a very muddy/muffled sound to it. Even with the fuzz all the way up, it was very weak sounding.

The BC-108 has way more fuzz too it and has a brighter sound. You can control the amount of fuzz...from lighter fuzz to My Bloody Valentine!

BTW, that's cool you are into shoegaze!!! That's mostly what I listen to!

I'll have to check out the new MXR delay!

    :)

  • I hv also heard to NKT275 somehow sounds muddy...perhaps I will give BC108 a try!

Btw, do u consider using a treble booster or a clean boost for a fuller sound?

    Cheers =)

  • You do lose some high end when you turn the fuzz way down. It's still not as bad as the NKT275 though. I'd probably just wait till you get the BC-108 & then decide if you'd like to get a treble booster. Really it's not much of an issue. I usually have the fuzz either cranked all the way or almost all the way!

As for getting a clean boost pedal, they are generally only needed if you are wanting to overdrive a low wattage amp, or if you are needing a boost in volume when playing live.

    Ciao!

  • @vela75 - Don't underestimate the NKT Sunface. IMO, it's still the most-accurate-sounding clone of an Arbiter (ie. germanium) Fuzzface. You guys should try the Throbak Fuzz Haze. Not as authentically-built as the Sunface, but it's the most-user-friendly FF-clone I've ever used, and it's EXTREMELY-forgiving to one's playing. Cuts through VERY-well onstage. Check out the Pro Guitar Shop video. It's a germ. fuzz, but it has a bit of that BC108 hairyness. I use mine more than any other fuzzes I own.

  • I forgot to say...If you order the BC-108, you can either get the standard small MXR-sized box enclosure or you can have him put it into the older style, "larger small box enclosure". I had him build mine in the older style, larger small box. Anyway, I just thought you might want to know.

    :)

  • Wow, that tone sounds drenched. Gilmour style, nice playing.

  • Thank you!!! I appreciate the VERY kind words! I do love Pink Floyd. :)

  • Awesome. You ruled that.

  • Thank you!!!! :)
