Sometimes I think it's a shame these creatures are extinct but last night I hit a deer on the way home from work. The damage to my car was bad enough but if I hit one of these animals it would have tuned my car into a pile of scrap and then they'd turn around and eat what was left of me out of it. No thanks!
really a pity that some of these animals, not all, were driven to extinction by man. Even the ancestors to native americans who everyone thinks live in perfect harmony with nature, nonsense
*sniff* sniff* Fee Fie Foe Fum--I smell the blood of a creationist one! [green face] And something really smelly coming out the rear end! It looks like shi...NO WAY! IT'S A BRAIN--that appears to be the size of walnut!!! Excuse me, I mistook that for a small doo-doo rock! NOW WASH YOUR HANDS! And be sure to buy a new brain! ; l
@tehuan1 - They really existed. The ones you see here are (in order of appearance), Doedicurus, Deinotherium, Indricotherium, Moeritherium, Gastornis, Phorusrhacos (love terrorbirds! :), Megatherium, and of course Mammuthus (Woolly mammoth).
And some Ancylotherium, Australopithecus (our ancestors), Leptictidium and Smilodon in the background.
It's from the 2001 BBC-show "Walking with Beasts".
yea i think...those birds are huge if they were still here they would eat us all i wonder why all the animals got much smaller like mammoths to elephants doedicuruses (ica agearmadillo) elk to todays elk they r all smaller lol
@Starchild91 - And then we would have proof that the earth is more than 6000 years old and that we weren't created in some divine image of the almighty creator, unlike what the creationists are saying. ;)
Proof that we are animals that have evolved just like every other species on the planet.

@thusday8 It is my belief that after the Ice age, they grew shorter as the climate grew hotter, to reduce body heat.

Oh, wouldn't it be amazing if we could go back in time and see these creatures with our own eyes?
I would do anything to see them, and experience how life was back then.
Would also be interesting to see how the human/ape people would react to a modern human as well!
If we'd live long enough to find out, there is...
