I play Piano in a 60's 70's tribute band that play all the classics from that time. Just like all muso'c im looking to find really good Midi's to perform with. I've bought so many good Midi's but now I'm looking to find fellow Muso'c who will do and honest trade with great quality Midi's, saving us both $14 per track by helping eachother. send me a note via youtube and lets trade.
I have a GR20, I assume the 30 is the same with some improvements here and there. Basically you run the GK3 synth pickup from your guitar to the midi unit on the floor and it runs straight to your amp/pa. It can also control a midi keyboard like an m audio axiom or oxygen. something like that and you can direct record to your computer via Ableton or cubase. These units are expensive(for me anyway) but totally worth it. Endless creative source
ok so, like, to get a normal guitar to do MIDI, you have to hook it up to Garageband and use those sounds? How would you do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You would need to connect it as a MIDI input device, to an output device (VSTi, RTAS, Softsynth, Hardware Tone Module etc.) that supports at least 6-channel multi-timbral to cater for the 6 strings in the MIDI guitar. (so in a sense you could be controlling 6 different instruments per string.)
Hello there , Im not sure if anybody will no the answer to this question but i carnt seem to get a great answer explaining wat i want explaind anywhere on the internet. so ....
Can u run the guitar threw A computer midi program such as ableton or fruity loops or reason and make it work threw the vsts on the program ? , I hope some1 gets what i mean ?
well, I don't know exactly about fruit loops or ableton but using GR30 midi output, you can control VST's, I do it frequently to play with computer softwares that emulate minimoog and other analog synths
hammers and slide work very well. the system responds to bends but in midi context, a "step" effect can be heared in some patches, anyway, think about something like that "wheel" device (i dont know the name) used to alter the pitch in electronics keyboards
I was just down in Virginia Beach and you sound exactly like the guitarists that get payed good money to do that! Ever consider turning your talent into profit?
Sadly, it just seemed a bit late in the game for me ! I was 33 years old when I started to take guitar lessons, anyway your comments makes me feel very happy !
This happens to me too, midi signal is always a little retarded and you get this funny result. What I do is tape on 2 tracks and place the retarded track a lttle ahead of the rest. I'll pick up my guitarsynth again (I used to use it for the bass in recordings and it gives a great real result)
Thanks for telling this man... I experienced the same problem when I hooked up my keyboard to my laptop... Cursed my laptop and forgot about doing midis... On whichever professional sites I checked there was no mention of this problem.. so I thought I have unique problem.. Now I will give it a try again
nice.

Tutax 4 years ago
The GK2 pickup can be installed in any "normal" guitars. ebay lists some Roland GR33/GR30 units (plus GK2) under $200
smf961 4 years ago

How does it sound when you Bend, hammer-ons, slide, harmnonics and when you use the whammy bar? I'm interested on gettin' of of these..

Some of those people were in their 60s or 70s :)
Oh, I forgot to mention, I have the same exact guitar. I use Elixir and D'Addario strings.
chrisj2211 4 years ago
I use Elixir strings in this one too!
smf961 4 years ago
do you think you can do the same with one of those guitar/USB cables? just plug a regular guitar to a USB port?
TheEmpirealFormula 4 years ago
Well, I don't think so but I'm not 100% shure, I never heard about a USB guitar system with MIDI implementation...
smf961 4 years ago
What do you have your guitar plugged in to get your guitar to play samples like that?
TheEmpirealFormula 4 years ago
A Roland GR-30 guitar Synthesizer
smf961 4 years ago
dont you need a midi pickup installed also in order to seperate each string into a midi channel.
d3tach3d 4 years ago
this guitar has a built-in rmc bridge pickup and internal electronics in order to produce a 13-pin output signal
smf961 4 years ago
wow! awesome! but you are lagging behind the tempo a bit
danielortizdecaracas 4 years ago
I wonder if this is not a midi problem, in fact you need to play a little bit ahead on the beat.
YOUYOU47 4 years ago
you're right but I just don't know what happened !
