@Waltham1892 If you missed the correlation between N and H then I feel sorry for you. You even told they both had something in common withou knowing it. LMAO!
Oh Nietzsche was, and still is, smarter than your zero.
Have you heard of Spinoza? He believed in God, but he didnt expect God to love him/us in return. He never cried about it. :)
@NtoxicatedForum A lot of that was due to his woman, who was a huge nazi who corrupted a lot of his publications. Will to Power was barely even Nietzsche, for instance.
How about you compare his philosophy with transhumanism?
Also, "didn't survive the test of time?" Did I miss the memo and all of time hase passed, so that we can make that judgement? Did van Gogh's art survive the test of time? Not within his lifetime... only long after his death did he gain recognition.
Finally... how would you ever conclude that he was a liar?
1) Of course it is. It's predictive, not descriptive. And rather accurately if I might add. It may be written in a more flowery language, but the whole premise is basically transhumanism in a nutshell.
2) Ever heard about the oscillating universe? It's not an uncommon idea.
3) You wish.
4) Sure. I suppose you are one of the people that are always right. Right?
@NtoxicatedForum@NtoxicatedForum wtf does that mean? just because everything he said wasn't pitch perfect doesn't take away from his innovative approach to many topics as well as the undeniable influence he had on so many people. just because aristotle wasn't "right," just because freud wasn't "right" doesn't diminish from their accomplishments as great thinkers who continued the incredibly important discourse over what it means to be a human being.
@NtoxicatedForum Marx was not a Marxist though. You could also blame David Ricardo as he influenced Marx. In any case, the Political Economy of the Poor would have existed with or without Marx. His contemporaries were alive and well.
@NtoxicatedForum .....Marx was a socialist, not a communist. Has capitalism worked? There's over 600,000 people in America without homes. 1% of the population owns over 90% of America's total wealth. I don't think so bud. Jesus was also a communist. Educate yourself fool.
@NtoxicatedForum "First who come get serve last, last who come get served first"- sounds pretty communist to me.
"Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
It's well known that Jesus was the first socialist. Albert Einstein was also a socialist.
@12Ominous Im still laughing at your absurd opinion of Christ as a socialist. He was a spiritual leader! "My kingdom is not of this world" Socialism is of this world. HUGE difference!
Btw, I just finished reading Nietzsche and the Jews by Siegfried Mandel. Im currently reading Nietzsche and Wagner: A Lesson In Subjugation. I recommend both books. =)
@NtoxicatedForum ....I'm sure you are. I see that your mind doesn't have the ability to make abstract connections, more likely it just doesn't want to. Christ was advocating the foundation of socialism before socialism became known as socialism and demonized as such, period. I don't see what being a spiritual leader has to do with anything. He advocated sharing, which is the principle of socialism. Congratulations, you still need to be intelligent in order to make abstract connections.
@12Ominous OMG! Youre killing me with laughter!!! What are you going to say next? Christ the socialist! Wheres the "abstract connection" in that concept? HAHAHAHAHA!
@NtoxicatedForum Something that is abstract is something that is considered theoretically to be separate from something else. You have proposed the theory that labeling Christ as a socialist is inaccurate because he is a "spiritual leader." A complete error in reasoning and not at all negating the the fact that Christ advocated socialist principles. Are you done trolling?
@12Ominous Im trolling??? Youre the one whos harrasing me with your ludicrous theories about subjects you obviously dont understand. Take my advice: You have a future as a comedian.
@NtoxicatedForum It's curious that you presume that I don't understand economics nor Philosophy yet you have not offered any rebuttal for anything that I've said, merely resorting to Ad Hominem.
@NtoxicatedForum Evidently you are not. To the rational mind socialism simply makes more sense. You don't need ten cars and a mansion unless you have a small penis and can't get laid (generally the case). It's just simply logic. In fact it's unethical to own 9 extra cars when millions of people are starving to death. And if you have no compassion and can't see that you and the beggar are still both human, one fortunate and one unfortunate, you don't deserve life.
@12Ominous You dont understand christianity! You know very little about socialism! You have a very poor grasp of philosophy, and youre falsely accusing me of not being able to rationally conceptualize about NONENTITIES! THE SAME NONENTITIES YOU DONT UNDERSTAND!? How can I take you seriously???
@NtoxicatedForum That's a great assumption you've made, however inaccurate or gratuitous it might be. Outrage is the last breath of the dying. You don't have to acknowledge what is blatantly evident, it doesn't make it any less true.
Socialism:
A political doctrine that upholds the principle of collectivity, rather than individualism, as the foundation for economic and social life. ...
@NtoxicatedForum Try reading Marx also. Don't worry, you won't "catch" communism but at least you'll know what you're talking about. Stalinism and Maoism are to Marxism what the Inquisition is to the teachings of Christ.
@NtoxicatedForum Care to elaborate? What is the 5% that did? You don't judge a philosopher on how "right" he was. The nature of philosophy is that there is no absolute right. You judge a philosopher on the impact of their thought on subsequent understanding and discourse. If you consider the influence of Nietzsche on subsequent thinkers throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries his impact has been enormous, even amongst those who disagreed with him. Try reading his work, judge for yourself.
@vygotsky17 Lmao! Nietzsche didnt take himself too seriously. You shouldnt either. I'll repeat what N said in BGE. NO PHILOSOPHER HAS BEEN PROVEN TRUTHFUL! Yes, my friend, not even Nietzsche.
I wish that I had encountered Hitchens when I was younger. His arguments are elegant, his points are profound, and his courage is undeniable. He doesn't let himself get bullied by theists who assume that shouting over his talking points is the same as a good argument.
I'd hardly call hitchens a Bully. A Bully is a person who harrasses and teases. He doesn't operate that way at all. He is very careful and erudite with his replies and statements. The fact that he can tear anyone's argument apart doesn't make him a bully, because he does it without resorting to ad hominem or unneccesary insult. If you disagree, please give me a clip of him being unneccesarily insulting or cruel.
A question for atheists. In a world where there's no proof of God's existence or of life after death; how will you explain to your children why you brought them into the world and why they should die?
"you don't become an atheist, so much as this what you find that you are." perfectly true... as a child i was an atheist for years before knowing that i was (i just didn't know what the word meant.)
RELIGION: Yuck! I left home at 16 and retired financially secure at 48. I've slept in the streets in East L.A., Las Vegas, St. Louis and Detroit. I learned real quick that it's the people who talk the dogma that you have to watch and the Department of Corrections will back me up. Only 1.5% of prisoners say they're Atheist. All the others love Jesus. In Congress the percentage drops to 0.9%. "In God We Trust" on our money and buildings is blasphemy. Our deeds don't match-up with our claims.
Hitchens is a complete opportunist and charlatan. Sometimes he touts his "left" history, but he supported the illegal invasion of Iraq that has resulted in over a million deaths, joined with the Republican right in its campaign to have Clinton impeached, and has completely gone along with the media, and the political establishment's demonisation of Muslims in the phony "war on terror". You'd be hard-pressed to find a more cynical, and unscrupulous scoundrel...
mr hitchens is one insanely smart and polished motherfucker. watched the lecture he gave to google and he was by far the best spoken, most articulate, insightful, completely on top of the questions, and funny author they have ever had. the guy is brilliant. It makes me fucking sick that he is ill.
very intelligent dude. great in his exposing of the anti-war left as shills for fascism.
But deluded in his atheism.... too much force-fed religion does that. If you rule out A God, then morality can be invented to mean whatever you choose... welcome Nazism, Communism, Nihilism, child abuse etc. Science presupposes that there are universal physical laws ... which also points to a designer (although scientists re loathe to admit this).
@MrAussieJules Wow. If you think anything you just typed refutes Hitchens' arguments, you are sadly deluded. No God leads to Nazism? I guess you weren't aware of the nazi mantra "Gott Mit Uns" (God With Us). And throwing in child abuse, just for good measure? You obviously are not aware of the thousands of child abuse cases reported withing the Catholic Church all over the world. And the existence of physical laws points out to a designer? That one's not even worth replying to.
@MrAussieJules Even with a belief in god morality is still invented by man. A few thousand years ago, stoning people to death for extremely trivial offences was seen as moral and good. This is biblically attested to. Your god once said that behaviour is moral, now he says it is not. What changed? God? Or could it be that the society that people live in changed, and as a result their idea of what morality is also changed. That would mean we make our own morality, which we do, and so do you.
@Idahoprospector What the hell does Anderon Cooper's homosexuality have to do with his validity as a newscaster? Or being a man, for that matter? Quite insulting.
@nanyacura 'Quite insulting?' this is the Hitchslap following you've wandered into babe. Being slightly offensive is kind of 'what we do'. Don't let it get to u though.
It's not a matter of what Hitchens is saying, but implying that Anderson Cooper is somehow a lesser for his sexual orientation IS insulting and bigoted no matter how you slice it.
@nanyacura Didn't say AC is 'a lesser' 4 his sexual preference, that was YOUR OWN inference. My comment was that Hitch was less of a queer than A. Cooper - implying less annoying, not as self-absorbed, less consumed w/ fame or the sound of his own voice (all of which r overtly queer traits).
Either ur reply was a freudian slip, revealing that YOU actually feel homosexuals r, in YOUR OWN words, 'lesser,' or you don't read English very well.
Are you dense? How was ANY of what you just said not insulting to homosexuals like myself? So we're self-absorbed and annoying? Well good, I'm glad to pester you about your own bigoted ignorance over the matter :)
@nanyacura Thx 4 confirming what's already obvious by becoming annoying & playing the victim role. Look, just b/c you're gay, doesn't exempt u from any form of public criticism. That's a perspective many of us just aren't cowering to anymore. 'You're gay bashing . . . or you're so homophobic.' Don't act (or retort) like an idiot & no one will have anything to criticize u about!!!! Stop TRYING TO MAKE EVERYTHING ABOUT U AND UR SEXUAL PREFERENCE! IN ACTUALITY, VERY FEW OF US REALLY CARE!!!!!!!
Shit son, you have some serious anger issues with this subject. Maybe you ought to be taking a hard look at what it is that's pissing you off; people being themselves shouldn't be cause for ridicule or criticism, at least, if you're not a douchebag.
@Idahoprospector if i could vote more than once for your awesome comment sir you'd have more than a messily 22 at this point. as a side note to "nanyacura" queer means "odd" just like "pervert" means "to change from its original form" usually in a frowned upon way. you "perverted" your own argument the moment you clicked "reply." ;)
@Idahoprospector How did this comment get 83 thumbs up? Not only do you rank "homosexual" alongside "crass" and "obnoxious", but you seem to think that being a bully is a good thing.
Wait a second, we're following an editor of a FASHION MAGAZINE. Whoa, I had no idea, um does everyone know this?! R we totally screwed or is there someone else? VANITY FAIR editor telling us what to believe, this is actually pretty embarassing! Can anyone help me out wrapping my head around this.
"You don't become an atheist so much as you find out that you are." OMG CHRIS IS AWESOME!! when i tell people three is no point in conversion it confuses people.
I will take it a step futher since I bet theists will only see the very narrow definition of "others." Others refers to ALL others which are not an immediate threat. If man were to think to survive by being selective in aiding his fellow man, his own flawed perception would get in the way and his choices inevitably lead to his demise. People are generally good and generally do the right thing. This works much better in our collective survival.
Objective morality of man is no different than that of wolves or dolphins. Social creatures cannot survive on their own. The different members of the community all contribute to make it work. This cohesion exists only because if it didn't exist, the species would be long gone. Objective morality is the impulse to do the right thing to preserve your OWN life by preserving others which aid in your survival. It's really just common sense and I can't believe theists choose to deny this too. Go figur
The idea that we would lug around a mass of fragile flesh which is the most heavily protected part of our bodies so as to preserve all the billions of electrical connections that contain our memories and experiences and feelings and perceptions and self awareness when there is an invisible indestructible version of it floating around which lives forever is absolutely stupendous. And you say not only does this ghost exist, but a god "designed" the inferior flesh which duplicates the ghost? ???
If there was no God, there would be no soul, no afterlife, no real love, hate, good, evil or crime itself because all these have no scientific meanings. Morality would be no more than an illusion of opinion and self-awareness and consciousness as an individual with freewill without a soul would be no more than biological chemical delusions. Science can discover what we are but never inform us of who we are. Are we made in God's image or evolution's freak of nature?
@WILLTHEWGMAN Also. No math, no science. none of that there spellin! Good FSM, wheres my lottery? Wheres yours? Shouldn't your big god get you all rich and shit? Man, I'll pray for you. Wouldn't it be easier if you just have a job? I'll give you a job though, when you're running around without one. I don't want to, but I'm not a horrible person.
I don't wait to get those damn people and watch them die.
Do you think there's such a thing as objective morality? I say yes, in that I give credence as truth in humanity. Your world-view, in that there are no moral truths, so anything goes, isn't going to make the world a better place, it will be worse! My point is, is that a world-view of no moral truths replacing a construct of moral truths is not any benefit to humanity, it's the very denial of humanity! Science can discover what we are but never inform us of who we are!
@WILLTHEWGMAN There are objective truths in nature. There are certain truths about nature which dictate what we need to do in order to flourish as a species. You can't get that from a source outside of it. What if God suddenly decided to destroy all people? On what basis could you object if you believe we get our worth from God? All you have done is created supernatural subjectivism.
@WILLTHEWGMAN You need to watch some more debates, get more informed, all of your claims and questions get addresses without religion ever being part of the equation.
I have never heard any Atheist claim any moral standard being objective! There is no grounds for an Atheist to make such a claim! Atheists must claim that even to throw babies into a fire to reduce overpopulation and stay warm can be only "subjectively" wrong because any "objective" moral objection to this evil deed would require a mechanism of prior intent in mankind's life before our life even existed. No Atheists' debates claim any one single objective moral; not one, ever!!!
@WILLTHEWGMAN Christopher Hitchens destroys your argument in many of the debates. Watch a few more and you will understand. But im not going to waste my time trying to explain what has already been explained, and much better i admit by someone else.
@WILLTHEWGMAN Yet, believers in God have been known to sacrifice children to God. God even asks Abraham to sacrifice his son. And when atheists bring up the OT where God commanded the Israelites to commit infanticide against other tribes, the Christians always come up with an excuse for it. And you claim to have a basis for objective morality. Give me a break. I don't buy into your irrationality.
@WILLTHEWGMAN Your argument doesn't even make sense. If our consciousness survives bodily death somehow, that doesn't mean God exists. It would simply be a natural phenomena that we aren't aware of. All this stuff you are talking about could be a fundamental property of existence itself. To believe you can't value things without the belief in God just shows what kind of person you are. It is not something to brag about.
I never believed. It just didn't add up. As a very small child my mother spoke of some all loving, all powerful god, but when I turned on the TV, the news was always about some natural catastrophe or war or suffering.
Different people come out of the muck that is religion at a different age.

MANY PROPHECIES AND VISIONARIES.
THE REAL MIRACLES, EFFECTIVE EXORCISMS, INCCORUPT BODIES OF SAINTS,
Religion isn't actually the first attempt at philosophy. That enterprise had been going on for a few thousand years arising from the impulse to understand and there were many beliefs that might be termed pantheistic. Hinduism, the oldest religion had a lot of freedom in it. But there beats in the heart of mankind this horrible idea of unity, of making everyone the same, of intolerance to differences, of not understanding that the individual is sovereign. Thus we end with monotheism.
@FeelOfFriction I think the attempt to make everyone the same, intolerance of differences, of not understanding that the individual is sovereign, of the need to control others, of belief in magical celestial dictators, in giving in to fears and thinking Safety can be achieved at the price of Liberty are some of the worst things on the planet.

Really?
How about you compare his philosophy with transhumanism?
Also, "didn't survive the test of time?" Did I miss the memo and all of time hase passed, so that we can make that judgement? Did van Gogh's art survive the test of time? Not within his lifetime... only long after his death did he gain recognition.
Finally... how would you ever conclude that he was a liar?

@TheCraziestFox
1) Nietzsche's overmensche was a figment of his imagination.
2) The eternal recurrence isnt supprted by science (as he thought it was).
3) His critique of christianity is not only biased but COMPLETELY WRONG! See Walter Kauffman's book on Nietzsche.
4) His theory of will to power has never been taken seriously by anybody!
5) Lastly, not even Nietzsche took himself as seriously as his sycophants do.
NtoxicatedForum 2 months ago
@NtoxicatedForum
Right?
5) That proves what? If it even is true.

@NtoxicatedForum @NtoxicatedForum wtf does that mean? just because everything he said wasn't pitch perfect doesn't take away from his innovative approach to many topics as well as the undeniable influence he had on so many people. just because aristotle wasn't "right," just because freud wasn't "right" doesn't diminish from their accomplishments as great thinkers who continued the incredibly important discourse over what it means to be a human being.

It's well known that Jesus was the first socialist. Albert Einstein was also a socialist.

@12Ominous Im still laughing at your absurd opinion of Christ as a socialist. He was a spiritual leader! "My kingdom is not of this world" Socialism is of this world. HUGE difference!

NtoxicatedForum 1 month ago
@NtoxicatedForum ....I'm sure you are. I see that your mind doesn't have the ability to make abstract connections, more likely it just doesn't want to. Christ was advocating the foundation of socialism before socialism became known as socialism and demonized as such, period. I don't see what being a spiritual leader has to do with anything. He advocated sharing, which is the principle of socialism. Congratulations, you still need to be intelligent in order to make abstract connections.

@NtoxicatedForum That's a great assumption you've made, however inaccurate or gratuitous it might be. Outrage is the last breath of the dying. You don't have to acknowledge what is blatantly evident, it doesn't make it any less true.

Midcal9 2 months ago
@NtoxicatedForum Care to elaborate? What is the 5% that did? You don't judge a philosopher on how "right" he was. The nature of philosophy is that there is no absolute right. You judge a philosopher on the impact of their thought on subsequent understanding and discourse. If you consider the influence of Nietzsche on subsequent thinkers throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries his impact has been enormous, even amongst those who disagreed with him. Try reading his work, judge for yourself.

If you disagree, please give me a clip of him being unneccesarily insulting or cruel.

very intelligent dude. great in his exposing of the anti-war left as shills for fascism.
MrAussieJules 10 months ago
@MrAussieJules Wow. If you think anything you just typed refutes Hitchens' arguments, you are sadly deluded. No God leads to Nazism? I guess you weren't aware of the nazi mantra "Gott Mit Uns" (God With Us). And throwing in child abuse, just for good measure? You obviously are not aware of the thousands of child abuse cases reported withing the Catholic Church all over the world. And the existence of physical laws points out to a designer? That one's not even worth replying to.

edgeforlife100 10 months ago
@MrAussieJules Even with a belief in god morality is still invented by man. A few thousand years ago, stoning people to death for extremely trivial offences was seen as moral and good. This is biblically attested to. Your god once said that behaviour is moral, now he says it is not. What changed? God? Or could it be that the society that people live in changed, and as a result their idea of what morality is also changed. That would mean we make our own morality, which we do, and so do you.

This works much better in our collective survival.
sharkysvideostore 11 months ago

Do you think there's such a thing as objective morality? I say yes, in that I give credence as truth in humanity. Your world-view, in that there are no moral truths, so anything goes, isn't going to make the world a better place, it will be worse! My point is, is that a world-view of no moral truths replacing a construct of moral truths is not any benefit to humanity, it's the very denial of humanity! Science can discover what we are but never inform us of who we are!
WILLTHEWGMAN 1 year ago
@WILLTHEWGMAN There are objective truths in nature. There are certain truths about nature which dictate what we need to do in order to flourish as a species. You can't get that from a source outside of it. What if God suddenly decided to destroy all people? On what basis could you object if you believe we get our worth from God? All you have done is created supernatural subjectivism.

MrLinuxgui 1 year ago
@WILLTHEWGMAN Yet, believers in God have been known to sacrifice children to God. God even asks Abraham to sacrifice his son. And when atheists bring up the OT where God commanded the Israelites to commit infanticide against other tribes, the Christians always come up with an excuse for it. And you claim to have a basis for objective morality. Give me a break. I don't buy into your irrationality.
Fishqueen1972 1 year ago
@WILLTHEWGMAN Your argument doesn't even make sense. If our consciousness survives bodily death somehow, that doesn't mean God exists. It would simply be a natural phenomena that we aren't aware of. All this stuff you are talking about could be a fundamental property of existence itself. To believe you can't value things without the belief in God just shows what kind of person you are. It is not something to brag about.
