  • hi, i tried your recipe, but after a few folds, it started getting brittle and breaking. is their something that i did wrong? and also, do i need to cool the sugar completely before using it, or can i start when it is a little hot?

  • Until I watched this video I didn't realize how much skill was involved in the creation of this candy.

  • you can also infuse the candy with cardamon

  • can u use honey in place of corn syrup

  • OMG Never Knew that way of doing it

  • What about powdered sugar?

  • @AliceBabo I mean. Can you use powdered sugar in place of corn starch?

  • i did everything, and during the cooling part of the making, it solidified into just... rock candy.. any thoughts?

  • @minitopher11 You did everything, but work fast enough I think, try working using a heat lamp and it will stay pliable for a longer duration! Also try to avoid leaving it on cold surfaces and best of luck!

  • @lycheesack thanks man!!!

  • THIS IS GREAT! My mom (please don't take offense) found it either ironic or funny that we (we're asian) were learning from a white guy. :D She's so traditional.

But honestly this is great! We thought there must be some secret behind it. You were so clear that even my mom understood! Were gonna try this right now!

  • does this also work if you just freeze a blob of honey?

  • @rotflmaopmpqxyz nope, tried that, it just melts into a puddle of honey after your finished spinning it

  • I would love to see you do Pashmak, specifically. I know the recipes are all slightly different, and pashmak is more fluffy like cotton candy (but shaped like hair), though dragon's beard is affected by gravity, similar to wet hair (though it's dry). Well, a specific showing of making pashmak would be great. I can dream though. ^_^

  • Ammazing!

  • really makes you wonder who discovered cotton candy?

  • I tried this but couldn't get the temperature up to 133 =(

    so it didn't fully harden

  • Hi!

Thank you for this tutorial, it was very informatve!

Do you think it possible to use honey instead of the cron syrup + sugar mixture?

I assume ancien China did not know about sugar or corn syrup...

  • This. Is. So. COOL! It was very fun to watch, too.

  • i want some of that! artificially flavored apple and colored green for starters

  • watch?v=pCLYieehzGs

Korean's King's Dessert is better P: taste better too

  • it would be nice if you could include layman's measurements for the rest of us...

  • I tried your recipe and it did not work for me. I boiled the sugar to 133 than turned it off. My liquid sugar did not look so clear, it looked grainy. Why is that. I let it cool down and when i tried to squeeze it, it just broke into pieces.

  • it keeps breaking when i stretch it out. what am i doing wrong?

  • really considering making it

  • WOW! impressive - I must try to make this.

Thanks for using metrics ! :)

  • Special agent Dale Cooper

  • @avergaston that's a damn fine cup of coffee!

  • THANKYOU for using proper units of measure... ie: METRIC

Cool video.. and geeky too... all that "raising to the power of two"... :-D

  • @timjohns Dude, wtf? I understand that the Metric system is way easier to understand and work with, but to say it's the "Right" measurement system is just kind of an asinine thing to do. That's like saying "Hey man, thanks for using the right language (i.e. English). Yeah, Russian is a totally stupid language." or something like that. Just because the American (English) system is more confusing and isn't standardized between both our countries, doesn't mean it's the "wrong" system.

  • @Warrigel Errrr... DUDE !!! The metric system is logical... scientific... based on simple powers of ten. It makes sense and has been adopted by 99% of the nations on planet earth... And I guarantee you when we meet other species from other planets and galaxies, that they will also use a logical simple mathematical system of measurement based on powers of ten. Get on board... :-)

  • @timjohns I'm not saying it's not the most logical system, and I know we will eventually adopt it entirely, and I agree with that, but it doesn't make it the "proper" system. You make it sound like the American Standard system isn't a real measurement system. It is rather stupid, and it doesn't make sense, but it's still a measurement system. There is technically no wrong or right system. You could have said "Thank you for using the most common system" or "Thank you for using the metric system".

  • @timjohns only proper depending on the country you are in

  • @Bradcool1 193 Soveriegn Nations in the world.... 98.5% using metric system three nations (1.5%) using outdated, illogical, confusing, inviting inaccuracy, costly to world trade imperial. Modern Science knows what's the correct system to use. They've all been on board with the metric system since "forever" (except NASA and we know how that turned out..) Aviation... not so much... but they did invent the whole flying thing.... so the rest of the world, we cut them a little slack :-)

  • @timjohns mind you I use metric quite often when I work on automotive or electric components since the US has decided they don't want to make anything for themselves except fuel inefficient vehicles.

  • great! so informative!

  • haha loved the 'Can't pronounce the Turkish one' at the end.

    Great video.

  • cusack cooks?

  • Fascinating.

  • Lol @ weak point in the recipe. Great video, Dave.
