  • it's a classic...

  • I can just imagine the Western movie with William Ackerman setting it's song along with Ry Cooder as in Geronimo.

  • 6 persons use his guitars to support his tables =´(

but 116005 persons continue listening REAL music =D

  • If you like this music then type into youtube 'David Connell Waterfall's Hidden Beauty'. His music is beautiful and very similar.

  • @jiggolojoe

Your kind patient answer is exceeded only by

My own stupidity. Thanks very much!

Duh! What was I thinking!?! Or not, I guess! Lol much obliged. :-)

  • So obviously I'm doing something wrong here, Lol.

    A little help perhaps...? :-)

  • @Scottie1152 Eb Ab Db Gb B E capo 5th :)

  • Beautiful beautiful song, have loved it for years! Finally decided I would try to learn it.

Went to Ackerman's website and got the tuning he uses from there:

G-C-F-Bb-D#-G#. Don't even bother trying it. You will guaranteed break your high E string going to G or G# every time. I just trashed three new sets of strings attempting it. I don't know how Will does it unless he uses strings other than what he claims to use. He says he uses D'addario light Phosphor-Bronze, which is exactly what I'm usi

  • I shared this song with my daughter. She was sad at the time, so I shared this video to say I love her. She thought it was beautiful & others heard it from FaceBook post and commented positive. You are SO talented/Blessed. To think anyone would dislike such beautiful music. They just don't understand what guitar music is, how beautiful, peaceful & how it fills the heart with melody. Amazing and thank you for sharing. Debby

  • After getting out of the Army, I went to college in North Dakota, at NDSU-Bottineau. Having been a below-average student in High School, the military matured me significantly. Have two majors: Parks and Rec. Mgt, and Fisheries and Wildlife Technologies. Lots of Biology, and all the other life sciences. Tons of reading and studying. I had a collection of Will's tapes and would play them while studying. It got me to the Dean's List a few times!

  • The tune and picking are beautiful, but would also like to know the make, model and year of that great old truck!

  • This piece is amazing!! I wish I culd play that!!

  • will ackerman makes real ass nigger music

  • My God, your emotion just bleeds into the music - it's like you bare your soul.

  • Love how his heart and soul are involved. It's as if his heart and soul are playing the tune and not his fingers.

  • Beautiful-- does anyone know the tuning here?

  • Will Ackerman is what I found upon returning to college in California in the fall of 1980 after a year away on the East Coast. I recall the exact occasion of my introduction, a weekend day away from campus with my new roomies in one of the alternative coops on campus. We were in and around a little cabin next to a forest stream, the sun beaming in through the tree cover to bring the leaf-covered clearing to glowing half light. The Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter was the 1st magic I heard...

  • che fiala

  • Thank you so much for share this song!!!

  • This song is such a compliment to my Mother, who was a "Brick Layers Daughter" We play it everytime we go to visit her grave and share a memory or two. Thank you so much for such a fine piece of musical masterpice.

    Tahosa

  • good song. cheese-ball guitarist.

  • good song. cheese-ball guitarist.

  • BEAUTIFUL :-)))

  • Splendid...see you in 2 weeks!

  • This guy should be doing Old Spice commercials.

  • So Glossy...

Just Waiting for the Hot Chicks to come running down the field.....

    Nice Song...

  • This is the first piece of guitar music that I heard that got me into listening to 'American fingerstyle Guitar' , then it was , Hedges, Kottke, now Mckee, Ross, Dufour, ect. But this was the piece that started it all. It still has a profound effect on my mind and heart.

  • @moh2o Thanx!!! Ackerman & Hedges are THE REASON I play acoustic guitar. Hope you like MY version on Will's tune, "IMPENDING DEATH..." I play with Michael Manring. Check it out!

    THANX!

  • The emotion he plays with makes the music so much more beautiful .

  • When I was in college, attending North Dakota State University - Bottineau and Institute of Forestry, I had a couple of his tapes, and would play them while I studied learning all the genus and species names.tons of them! Totally mind blowing all the stuff I had to memorize, listening to William, totally got me focused! For someone who graduated with a "D" average...I made the Dean's list my second quarter. My parents were blown away! It was "who are you, and what have you done with our son?

  • He's my favorite guitarist (:

  • Really beautiful.

  • Simply beautiful!

  • How many moments this has carried my spirit over the years since I first heard it, and now in the field with Hospice Chaplaincy, it carries other spirits over, into, and beyond ~ Thank you William Ackerman ~

  • I was just looking through a box of old vinyl albums and found 'Passage' amounst a few other 'Windham Hill' albums. Sadly I don't have a working record deck at the moment having gone 85% to CD. The album predates my wedding and my wife had never heard it so I took a chance on Youtube. Thanks for uploading it dakotarose06. I can't get any where near playing it on the guitar. Thats why I now play Celtic mandolin, smaller neck, less of a stretch!

  • How much more beautiful than this can you get, God's music and scenery! Not to mention the gift he gave to Will!

  • How could 2 people dislike this?

  • @zmanofwar3 I KNOW, RIGHT?!

  • @dakotarose06 They hit the wrong button.

  • @zmanofwar3 I know, I can only think that they are not quite centered.

  • @zmanofwar3 ---- Most people I know today do not have the patience to listen beyond the first few notes before judging it........I don't give a @@@ what anyone else says, this is good stuff....

  • @zmanofwar3 It's gotta be the devil and his wife...

  • There are at least two totally demented f@ckers in the world!!

Will Ackerman is a legend. He is a huge inspiration for my acoustic playing.

  • All that and good looks too! What a combination! You make it look easy. Thank you!

  • I had no idea he'd made a video to this. Love the trees and the truck.

  • everynow and then you find a little video hidden away with no arseholes commenting on it, lovely beans.

  • it is truely amazing

  • very good

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

  • If you don't already have it, I recommend you buy the Windham Hill Gituar Sampler. Similarly excellent tunes, some by Will Ackerman himself.

  • Very Beautiful!

  • Very beautiful!

  • Wicked awesome song. For whatever reason, I never get sick of listening to it over and over again. Cheers!

  • During the late 1980s, WCVE-TV 23 (Richmond, VA) used to air parts of this track as fill music between instructional shows; however, I did not know it by title until I found this video.

This is one beautiful piece of music; THANK YOU for bringing back such great memories for me.

  • Excellent song, but the guy looks like such a tool in this video.

  • yea im gonna have to agree, its kind of a lame video lol

  • but i must confess...i would totally do this....it looks really peaceful

  • Comment removed

  • que magnifica inspiracion.... realmente genial.

  • That's exactly how my guitar sounds when I'm out in a field sitting on the tailgate of my truck... with my camera man. Oh yeah, don't forget the log. That's essential to the guitar tone. BTW, great song and playing.

  • been listening to this guy for 20 years. Never gets old.

  • Definitely one of his best. It flows like honey - mellifluous. Makes me think of the beautiful but sad eyes I know.

  • Love this, hes so talented, inspirational.

  • i lived in iceland when i was a boy, and my dad used to play this song in the car while we were driving through the glaciers and the mountains. i just found this song again after not having heard it for 20 years and i bawled

  • @seabrain And he's dead...

    cool story bro

  • Love this song

  • He makes that 6 string sound like a 12 string! Beautiful!

  • There's definitely a 12 string playing. Probably just played his 6 string for this video shoot. I love how it's just him on his truck's tailgate for this video. lol

  • I suggest listening to this song as you travel through the Sequoias. It will transport you. Actually anytime I hear this I am healed. Thank you for this.

  • Yeah, I love this, so simple, so beautiful. I'm tired of the hot-fast-talent sort of skill-competition thing that's going on in guitar work now. Will puts us in touch with something essential. So much of musicianship now lacks heart because it's more about showing off technical capacity than it is about sharing heart. I'll take a bad singer/guitarist any day who has heart than an ultra-coached show-off. I love it when a song transports me rather than impresses me about skill levels.

  • a man after my own heart i've just been compared to will ackerman never heard of him before this is beautiful

  • What guitar does he use?

  • I don't know about then, but now he uses Froggy Bottom guitars.

  • This is a fantastic study for budding guitarists showing how to make a simple song sound beautiful. Genius.

  • Love this song :) it's so unique... I'm learning it on guitar right now, wish me luck!... i'll need it haha

  • Beautiful and moving...

  • Thanks Will for this sweet sound!

    Arturo

  • THIS is MUSIC that heals the soul,I love William,His music makes the world better.

  • wish i had the truck. and the guitar. oh yeah, and the talent!! good song will.

  • work and practice i'll say ;)

  • I'm into a bunch of crazy jazz shit but "It Takes A Year" is a genius album, love this stuff, thanks for posting.

  • What kind of crazy jazz?

  • Lovely song, but the award for most annoying guitar face goes to...

  • lovely!!!

  • So enchanting...This has always been my favorite song, out of all the ones he does!

    Lovely...

  • Will and his guitar ought to get a room. : )

Actually, I can play this except for the hammer-on-off in the first few measures. Thanks for posting this video dakotarose06.

  • This song translates me back in time..I've always loved this album..and especially this song! I played it for my sons all the time..especially at Christmastime...as they climbed into bed...To this day, they totally remember those memories and speak of it often. One of my sons recently learned to play it on his guitar. It was the best!

  • I got to see William at the Stanford Memorial Church (CA) years ago.. the acoustics in the building were utterly phenomenal and an amazing compliment to his style of playing. It was a flawless performance too.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • That bricklayer must have had a stunning daughter! This ethereal piece is definitely amongst his best. A lyrical masterpiece.

  • His music means so much for me!

  • Incredible. Powerful.

  • His music is always very melodic.

  • This man inspired me so much when I first discovered his music 28 years ago--beautiful

  • I thought he was Micheal Cain for a second.lol. But yeah, Another Atmospheric guitar song.

  • Everyone likes this one - I do too - but "Dawn Treader" is my favorite. It took me a few years but I learned how to play it, maybe I'll post that on youtube sometime. No one can play it like Will, tho.

I like to bodyboard at pipe too (if I can get waves, that is!)

  • What I really wanted to say is,.. He seems to make love with the music. The Guitar and he are a part of one another. Poetry of sound flows out from him through the instrument. So moving...

    beautiful.

  • @no12blame, Acting!

  • This is so beautiful.

  • william Ackerman is a real gifted musician who connects with the Divine, just light. Every time I listen to this piece.. I fly away.. just fly away.

  • I walked down the aisle to this song! It was perfect!

  • this is the man who discovered michael hedges..

  • William Ackerman is so unbelievable. He's been such an inspiration to me.

  • I remember your music was always there for me in good times and bad times pointing always at one direction :hope.Thank you so much Will. And thanks for all the hours trying to figure out those "crazy" tunings in my guitar .

  • A beautiful guitar playing a passionate man in love with sound. I have always remembered being in love listening to this song for over 2 decades. Will Ackerman states loves truth.

  • He plays the most introspective acoustic music I've ever heard

  • i saw winston in person..but it was along time ago...does he still play in his socks?lol saw liz story and she was great.

  • Will Ackerman is a legend. I began listening to Windham Hill back in 1982 and I still have the cassette I bought. It was a George Winston cassette. Soon after I discovered Will and I have been listening to his guitar playing--and Winston's piano--ever since.

Both are brilliant and inspiring beyond description.

  • You just wrote my history! George Winston's Winter album was an unwanted gift by friends to my parents but upon listening, I just fell in love with. The Windham Hill samplers opened a whole new chapter to my life and to appreciation of real music. Will Ackerman's 'Visiting' always brings a lump to my throat and reawakens memories of when music was a real art brought to life by skill and imagination.

  • Actually, I am listening to George Winston's Autumn now. It's the 20th Anniversary edition. The cassette I bought in 1982 was this album and it sits on my bookshelf behind me as I write this. Cover faded, but still there. Although I don't play that old cassette anymore, I still hold onto it.

  • it's funny i did the same thing as you. then found a tresure chest full of new age. and i love it all.

  • Wow footage of the man himself & he's so into the music like always :) I can't remember how to play this song too well but yeah, thanks alot for uploading :)

  • wonderful....

  • no words for the video, none for the man, none for the song. they speak volumes alone. this man is a true legend.

  • There is not words to discribe the blessing his music is.

  • This is an AWESOME video of my favorite guitarist. Love the sight of Will with the fall colors in the trees. Dakotarose - thank you so much for this. How/where did you get this? 5 Stars ++++++++++++!!!!!
