  • what fuckin knob bucket disliked this amazing tune

  • what a fucking legend

  • What album is this on???

  • @SuperBarald Hand it over, from -97.

  • Great song :-)

  • es una rolaa genial casi un himno para aquellos que pertenecemso a la generacion x

  • look it is arthas

  • Few people seems to like this wonderful stuff. The ones who dislike I dislike with respect. Alone.

  • some people will never get how awesome this song is.also..... j and djr were around before the labeling of 'indie rock'.

  • J is transcendental

  • J. has to be the greatest guitarist in alt rock/indie rock history.

  • @elementz1986 indie music's ghey son.

  • Amazing. That song is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey everyone. Does anyone know what kind of looper pedal J uses?

  • thanks littlebaobob

  • i just farted

  • Man is a fucking legend......

  • Damn he is so talented.. Love Grunge/ Alternative/ Heavy Shit lol

  • i have seen dinosaur jr playing live at 'off festival' in poland month ago. j mascis's guitars and effects have been lost somewhere on airport in italy, and j barrow telecaster from 'black heart procession' guitarist (i don't know his name). then gig starts... and it was the best show in my life. J Mascis is the best guitarist player ever !!!

  • Genius.

  • J Mascis is 1 of a Kind and Amazingly talented

  • i dont know why but dino jr sometimes remind me of the cure...

  • @MrSrponyboy they remind me of neil young

  • @MrSrponyboy Have you ever listened to "Going Nowhere" by the cure?

  • @arrisfilms yup i'm a huge fan of the cure... i wasn't saying about this song only, in some other songs it's like a cure spirit... and this is really similar...

  • @MrSrponyboy i've heard j in interviews saying how he likes the cure... he's a big my bloody valentine fan too, more as contemporaries than as musical inspirations though...

  • @MrSrponyboy The two of them are great artist I've drawn a lot of inspiration from both of them, I know what you mean about them sounding similar.

  • fuck j, this is just incredible.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • AMAZINGGGGG

  • Never seen anobody using a distortion pedal with an acoustic guitar... till now

  • J's got skills!!!!!!!!

  • and @sunbeam11/general audience- yes, he used a "loop" effect. The versions i've seen him use were made by Boss, but for a fairly inexpensive version, you can snag a Line 6 Looper. Loop pedals are a must in order to sound anything like Dinosaur Jr... and for those of us who like cheap/free things, Loop effects can be had for your computer... the type of file to search for is VST

  • @fattirevsbud-yes, you can play accoustic with any distortion: mic the accoustic (SM-57 of competator out of the sound port), then run a cable from the on board pick-ups (ed's note-not all accoustics come with them, but they can be purchased for any guitar within $100) to an electric guitar amp (not an accoustic amp) and place any distortion effects via pedals. using the amps effects will limit your ability to turn them off. also, accoustic amps with sound bad w/ distortion.

  • @cencalrigger This is very true. I play my acoustic bass with distortion, has the on-board pick-up, makes it very easy. Like you said, sounds bad with an acoustic amp, but hook up to an electric amp and pedals and it's all good.

  • we're not alone

  • love this song so much it's my life right now ha fun isnt it

    feels like suicide

I didnt even know u could play acoustic with distortion

  • j has battled depression before, this music is coming from a sincere place... though he says yoga has helped him mellow out in recent years

  • sorrow shouldnt sound so good

  • this is deadly. this song fucking hurts me so much with it's beautifulness. J Mascis is killing me with his vocals... n.n

  • I wanna die

  • this guitar, `song writer`?????

  • One of the most deadly emotional song that I have ever heard I don't know if it's got the same effect on every person listing to it alone but it gets weird freaky

    I LOVE IT

  • man its nice to know im not Alone lol

fucking love the power of music. this song proves my opinion of you dont need to have increadibly awesome guitar skills to play something beautiful.

  • is he using a loop pedal?????

  • He had a little device he took on his tours and he'd make a loop, while the audience waited, before most of the songs he played. It gave him some background when he solo'd

  • one of my favorites,

makes me feel 10x more high.........i love it

  • does anyone know whats strings he uses?

  • think dr

  • thanks, his bends are amazing

  • they look like 12

  • It's a nice song. It really reminds me of John Frusciante in his To Record Only Water For Ten Days album

  • On a level of his own

  • Love his solos. so emotional, yet rockin

  • @vansbrand I don't think I could have put it better myself. Which isn't too difficult because I'm a terrible writer. But, yeah!

  • J is a God...............no, he is GOD

  • When great riffs go on long enough they often make me cry (happy tears), this solo is no different.

  • wat are the main chords again?

  • E, D, C

  • Em, GMaj7, Cmaj7

  • Try Em, GMaj7 (looks like a D, but without index finger), CMaj7

  • LEGEND!

  • where are the tabs for this!????

  • E, D, C

    improvise the solo :)

  • his voice his high pitched, reminds me of neil young

  • the shredding sound is heavenly

  • damn J's guitar solos are so awesome

  • I agree 110%

  • BEST EVER!

  • sweet man... :)

  • how is he playing alone? is he using a backing track or what?

  • haha nevermind i was being stupid :) its the song

  • He has a loop pedal he uses for the rhythm guitar.

  • do you know what the pedal exactly is? i think it's the zvex lo-fi looper but i'm not sure

  • Yes i believe its the Zvex Loop Junky, also Fuzz Factory and an Ibanez Analog Delay.

  • I listen to this song way too much, it's becoming unhealthy.

  • I love how you kids claim your favorite artists is better than the rock gods of yester-year. Did you ever stop to think for yourselves? You know The admire the great ones also, and most of the time when asked, they will almost always say there are certainly not better!

  • i like neil young alot but j mascis is just more well rounded in is musical abilties and simply is a better guitar player

  • It always makes me lmao when some people say stuff like Stevie Vai is the best. No best. No best.

  • neil and j are both ballin

  • neil young cant touch j mascis, period comma exclamation point period.

  • Neil Young...I can hear it in his voice and guitar tone, only Mascis is unmatched when it comes to fills and solos. Damn I love the tone of this song!!!! Anyone know what key it's in?

  • E minor.

  • Ahh Yes E minor possibly the saddest key in music

  • amazing!

  • dinosaur jr..they are great!Jay is a"one on a milion man"! ..un inchino per loro prego..

  • definetly, J here pays tribute to his master Neil Young.....

  • no j is not paying tribute to "his master neil young"

    1. j is better than neil young and far more vesatile in his musical talents

    2. j has said he just happens to have a similar sound to niel young and is a fan but was far more heavily influenced by bands like black sabbath and early punk

saying neil young is j mascis's master is laffable..

  • not at all. neil young is not the greatest rock n roll talent ever...so many greater ones..syd barrett, brian wilson, lou reed..all better than neil young. neil is great but certainly not the greatest

  • you mentioned three rock and roll icons, i love each of them, just like i love J , but Neil stands at the top for me.

  • mascis has actually said he's not particularly influenced by Neil Young, its just that their voices sound similar. He once said he was more influenced by Nick Cave than Neil Young.

  • Obviously J became pissed and bored when in the late 80s everybody was comparing him to Neil, so he began to deny that Young had been a source for him.....Obiously mr.Young was not the only influence and Dinosaur Jr produced powerful and original music. It's not only the voice actually: if you listen to the intro of "No Bones", it's identical to Young's "Alabama".

  • will some body pleasr give this guy his shoegazer props..dang it.

  • gran temaaa

  • nice song ! but i also got little confused for this one ? Effect to form ??

  • has anyone got a performance/video they could post for 'not the same' ?

  • I kinda get the neil young connection now a bit with this song........ like the purple wall and how he's black n white...

  • grazie di cuore al mio amico Massimiliano che me l'ha fatto conoscere " il Geniaccio " J. Mascis.

  • one of the most beautiful songs...thanks for posting

  • great song and great performance!Jay is a leggend!

  • :0 .

  • What a track (-:

  • weon bakáaaaan

  • guess this is "the music video"

  • And there wouldn't be a better video to this. :-)
