  • iggy pop is a non talented douche ........fuckin joke

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Great film but weird that the track sheet shows the synth as a Roland but the picture is of an ARP Odyssey. Wonder which it is.

  • love it! keep these stories coming!

  • He's aged really well unlike Iggy Pop!

  • Why Steve is not is the Rock-n-Roll hall of fame yet is beyond me. The Steve Miller Band is a legend!

I have loved your stuff for over 25 years... would LOVE to play it with you.

    @FridayHarbor

  • All well and good, and I'm happy for Steve, but it's about time that his previous albums get a little recognition. All great albums in their own right, and what about "Born 2 B Blue"?

  • you got it man,i've been listening to this great hit for the past 30 years.

  • That B-3 player laid down an insanely cool groove on this tune. Where is that kat today? Hopefully still doin it.

  • @shawnssongs I agree about the Hammond in that song. It was the first song that made me aware of how awesome B-3 can be. Did you ever get an answer as to who laid down that track in the studio?

  • @HiTopProd I know it is Jachym Young on the B-3 in the studio ~ The question is more of a ~ Where is he now? It's strange how great artist just seem to disappear.

  • 1 of the Greatest of All-Time. Although, we never really understood a lot of the lyrics!? ^_^

  • i look exactly like him with long hair. i am very serious i need to meet him

  • Steve is the man. I heard he started Miller Beer (High Life) too-cool! It's OK, but I prefer imported beers.

  • Excellent! I wanted it to keep going. Steve is a cool dude.

  • fly like an eagle is still the best and should be miller's #1!!!

  • Great short documentary! I just saw him the other night and he is still amazing. He sounds even better in person than he does on the recordings! If he comes to your area, do yourself a favor and see him. He is genuine talent.

  • What a band, what a story.but Fly like an eagle should have been the right #1 single at the time it came out.One of my favs of all time.

  • If Russel Crow ever wanted to play a Rock Star in a Movie I think I found the perfect look-alike when Miller was younger

  • @coldfusion1111 Russell couldnt hit a note if his life depended on it.His musical career didnt last long.Just type (frenzal rhomb-russell crowes band) and you'll see.

  • inspiring

  • I live about 15 miles from his old recording studio, out here in southern Oregon.

  • I finally got my DirecTV started again, and I forgot I had this program on my TIVO, sweet

  • the "beep" story is really amazing...i always related it to noises i heard riding as passenger on jetplanes when i was a kid...among the hissing and other backround noises...and now i have to discover that it only was a glitch !!! ;-( dear steve Miller :sometimes you shouldnt give away all the secrets.....

  • Talented and down to earth. Grew up on your music, always made my days as a kid go a little better.

  • I met him in the early '90s. He and his wife walked into my work in Seattle. Coolest guy in the world. I asked for his autograph, and he gave it to me. He's down to earth and knows his fans helped him get to where he is.

  • This guy is really amazing when you think about it. Underrated, like Bob Seger.

  • how the fuck is bob seger underrated? i guess being from ann arbor everyone talks him up to be something godlike because he grew up here but i guess i just never thought of him as underrated

  • I don't know, but I wish to hell people could make a comment without using vulgarity.

  • words are just sound or letters, meaning and how bad or good it is, is in your own mind

  • Oh, cut the crap.

  • Lots of memories, one old favorite of mine was " Going to Mexico". How about "Wild mountain Honey" that song was absolute classic , lots of those effects with sort of an acid trip feel!! Thanks Steve Miller, your a genius...

  • @3:51, Looks like Russell Crow

  • i thought the same thing! - a young russell crow

  • Nobody can play in A minor better than Steve. The Joker was played relentlessly on FM to become unbearable soon after it came out. He has many more songs just as enjoyable but playlist FM was and is nothing but radio hell and most did not get the airplay of Joker. Hello and best wishes out there to Steve.

  • what's the song that starts at 1:47?

  • Serenade From The Stars

  • This is such a good story!!!! Love the discovery of the beep beep beep at the end of the Fly Like and Eagle.

  • Steve Miller, what an absolute legend! Thanks for posting this.5+

  • Great recap of Steve Miller, we used to go see him all the time when I was a kid.

  • Awesome video. Steve Miller rules!

  • AWESOME...thanks for posting this...this brings back so many memories..I love The Steve Miller Band:)

  • What an excellent history on Mr. Miller! VERY informative! Thanks for posting!

  • @goesfastandfar

and your sure you got it all right.. subtext an´ all..

  • Sorry,no need to bother, I just found it,

it was Serenade to the stars, ahh what a great song, and what a happy memories.

  • HELP Anyone: What is the name of the song, played in this interview at 1.51. I can't remember the name, it starts with; Have you seen the light....

and the chorus goes something like: wake up wake up, wake up and look around you... you'r lost in space...

and that is all I know. I used to dance on it long time ago, good memories, but forgot the name of the song. Ahhh it is on my tongue but just want get out..

  • Very fascinating and informative!

  • Blast from the past. Nice to see some pics of Timmy Davis at the beginning of this clip. He was a great soul (and his mom make kick butt food).

  • going to see him tomorrow night at red rocks in denver and yes for the 2nd time!

  • First record I ever bought as a kid. The Joker. I still have the TV guide clipping of Steven Miller on Don Kirshners with the Raspberries. How's that for a fan. LOL>

  • Very nice video. Thank you!

  • I still prefer his earlier work. "Song for Our Ancestors" and "Jackson-Kent Blues" just can't be beat. I wished he had done more like those two songs. It's alos a shame that his album "Rock Love" never caught on. I don't believe it has even been put on CD.

  • Serenade!

  • I am going to Steve Miller for the 2nd time here at Red Rocks in Denver, Such a Great concert! Go everyone if you can! look for it!

  • lolololol!

  • Thanks for sharing true musicianship at its BEST!!!

  • I remember when this record came out in '76 on "wax" and (oh, no) "8-Track". It was a great time to be alive. The songs still to this day hold my interest. SMB was the greatest band of the 70's!

  • This was an interesting video.

  • When I was in 3rd grade, on Fridays we could bring records to play for the class for fun. I brought the 45 RPM single of Fly Like an Eagle and the class hated it. Then, some kid put on Manfred Mann's "Blinded by the Light" and the whole class loved it. I got ripped! Never liked Manfred Mann since or ever!

  • I am going to see him for the second time this july at red rocks in Denver! He sounds like the day the record came out! One of the best concerts I have seen!

  • Hold on. Man you got it all wrong I haven't seen him in any of the episodes, And there is no one by the name of scooter on the dukes.

  • He played a character on the 1970's TV series

"Dukes of Hazzard" too. I think he was called Scoooter, Cooter, Enos Cletus or somebody (a cousin of the Duke boys).

  • It's almost impossible to keep a copy of his greatest hits. Someone always wants to borrow it and then you never get it back. So you always have to buy another copy and try really hard not to lend it out again.

  • Are you Seriously Comparing JayZ and 50 Cent to Steve Miller Band ?? Are you F*cking Nuts !!! True Musicians ?? Wow, I'm simply Speechless !!

  • Your looking at a True Musician, 50 cent and Jay-Z don't even play in the same universe as Steve Miller Band !!

  • He looked like Steve Zahn back then

  • bullshit-he looked like Russel Crowe

  • Now he kind of reminds me of Fred Willard.

  • Steve has an easygoing, likable personality and the story behind FLAE is interesting and engaging in the retelling. Miller has always been critically underrated but aficionados know that few artists successfully bridge the gap between popularity and originality. Steve is definitely on that list.

  • Ya man ROCK on!!

  • FUCKING GENIUS. FULL STOP.

  • Thanks for posting the video, that was great and brought back some great memories. Their music seemed to have a "breath of fresh air" to it;thay had their own sound and it was good-not soeasy to find trhat today.

  • Steve Miller is just awesome and we need to see him down in Australia again!!!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed that vid. Thankyou for posting.

  • What a treasure to come across this piece. Thanks for posting it.

  • nice vid, steve you need to record more!

  • What about your bass player Steve?! psh... :(

  • So Seal remade thsi song in 1996?

  • Steve Miller is one of my favorite performs ever. And as merrilltim said earlier, what an underrated guitar player. All one has to do is attend one of his great shows, to see what a great player he really is.

  • Went to see Neil Young's new band at the Fillmore East & Steve Miller was on the bill. Thought Steve Miller Band was a baby band, bubble gum "sugar sugar" kind of guy so never paid any attention until then....wow. Still remember how he sounded that night. Live is the test this great clip shows the studio stuff but live music is true. Psychedelic was the word for all those colors inside & out back then... Thanks for this video

  • This was a great little clip. Nicely told and great production values. As I watched it just kept getting better and THAT's how a video needs to be. Excellent work fastfocustv. I think you've just inspired me to download a steve miller catalog from itunes.

  • Great artist and a way better guitar player than many know. I saw him out perform the brilliant cat from journey in a jam with Paul Rogers on night.

  • Well, he only learned to play from Les Paul and Howling Wolf, not anyone too talented....

If you didn't notice (and don't know Steve Miller's history) check out the picture at 25 seconds. The man with the long black shirt with buttons and white cuffs? William Royce "Boz" Scaggs.

  • Close but his mentor was TBone Walker although he may have met LP and Wolf.

  • Steve Miller was WAY BEFORE HIS TIME!!!!

  • No, Steve Miller was exactly right for his time. Pretty much everything since (post 1980's) sucks ass. Near as I can figure the younger generation (gen x) took a good hard look at what the baby boom generation had done musically, realized they couldn't compete and spent the next 20 years trying to pass dog crap off as music.

  • Everything post 80's sucks...right.

It's gotta be great to have an open mind like yours. So nothing past the 80's is good music.

I'm not even going to comment more on that, it speaks for itself.

  • SSS who is the Jimi Hendrix of your generation? Who are the Beatles of...? The Rolling Stones? The Led Zeps? The Eric Clapton? The Bob Dylan? The Elton John? The Pink Floyd? Name one band that is even going to matter in 20 years. Do you even still play music you bought 5 years ago?

  • 50 cent, GG G UNIT!

  • Aww, c'mon, I was born in '69, and I agree with your musical tastes and the importance and creativity of rock at that time, but do you have to use it as a boasting point just because you were sitting on your hippie ass dropping acid and lighting doobies while listening to it? Unless you personally were behind any of this creative musical force, your boasts sound hollow.

  • The social and political climate of the 60's was a "perfect storm" which brought forth artists whose impact can *never* be rivalled in the world of rock. And you can't take credit for that--you can just listen and appreciate, just as I do. That's why were here on this site. Enjoy!

  • I'm not bragging about my own talents. That's a different subject. I'm complaining because the quality of what has been promoted by the music industry in the last 20 years has been pathetic. And I'm sure there are some good bands out there but they aren't getting promoted by the corporate media. Maybe if generation Z or whatever they call themselves would quit listening to crap something better would come along.

  • your an A hole

    thats my 2nd cousin LOSERRRRRRRRR

  • I notice that you didn't answer the questions. Face it your generation is not only the first to have fewer economic opportunities than your parents but also the first to make worse music. Sucks to be you guys. Say hello to your cousin Loserrrrrr for me. Did his parents name him that or is it his nickname?

  • I suppose you bothered to argue with your grandpa too, or did you realise how ignorant the people of the older generation were being? There will always be good music being made, the FACT of the matter is commerciality has overcome our radiowaves and with any sense dont compare mr.cent to good music, even 50's mum shits in his hat. Your whole argument is ignorant and bigoted. Now go have a stroke while you listen to Prodigy, 1 band that will definitly be remembered/listened to in 20 years.

  • I suppose you listen to music of the 1920's regularly? If anything the good bands of the 80, 90's and 2000's will be listened to, for another 30-40 years as SMB is, but unfortunatly probably will be forgotten by the generation of kids in 2030. Dont act like there isnt a bunch of one hit wonders steming from the 50-70's. If you feel like having an inteligent dabate on or posibly educating yourself message me. But dont compare indie music to commercial.

  • Radiohead is really good. Same with RHCP.

  • I listened to Prodigy "Breath" on your recommendation. Its got a nice riff and the vocalist isn't bad even though I couldn't understand a word he was saying. But the quality of musicianship is pretty weak. The drum track sounds like it took about 45 minutes to program. Too bad they didn't develop the piece more. It could have been really good. A lot of older music does suck. But in 500 years Hendrix and the Beatles will be taught in classical music classes right next to Beethoven and Bach.

  • Well as a matter of fact, anyone having a music appreciation degree as I do, would know that all genres of music are taught and we spent almost the same amount of time on each genre, even hiphop. So yes it very well may be that in 500 years Hendrix will be considered classical music but so will drum n' bass and hiphop, but not in the sense of classical music as a genre as im sure you understand, rock and roll and the sounds of the 20th century, are not classical music and time wont change that.

  • Steve Miller was an integral part of my youth and the 70s' culture in general. Why can't it be like the 70s' again? Its' too bad time keeps on slippin" LOL

  • Such a fantastic unique sound. Every song still is fresh and vibrant, completely dancable. I had every album on 8Track. Great piece of video, thanks Steve for giving the music world such talent. ps-awesome drums-right in there with Bonham!!

  • Steve Miller is awesome

  • gr8... tks for putting this up

  • should be in the top 10 for albums from the 70's.

  • He just played here in Sun Valley. Great show, great sound, great musicianship! Just awesome! I hadn't owned any of his music in a long while. Gonna have to go out and get some now.

  • I would have to say Fly Like an Eagle is one of the best drum performances I have ever heard.

  • I grew up on his music, there are very few in his league.

  • Steve Miller rules...

  • best concerts ever! Only concert that you want to dance to every single song! Love Steve Miller

  • I drive by his old house/recording studio up here between williams/grants pass, oregon all the time

  • Great Stuff , Thanks for putting this up

  • He's amazing!

  • awesome video !
