I throw a similar line to Walter Ray Williams Jr. Picked up a 4-7-10 last night with my strikeball to cap-off a one of my first clean games. A hook without a spareball makes the 10 a challenge to hit every time. Not practicing makes it near impossible, but oh so much more satisfying when I make it.

One is a purple Triton Elite and the other is a Storm Firestorm... and I have a cheap ass brunswik ball (also finger-tip drilled) that I used for a spare ball (because it's slippery and no matter how much spin I put on it, it rolled relatively straight on a normally oiled lane.)
@Hoopermazing Nice. I am right now stuck with a Tantrum bowling ball, but the pro shop at the bowling alley where i work at is getting some new stuff during the middle of the month. Soon after that I will be using a new one, but I am also stuck with a damn plastic ball. Spare balls are usually not meant to curve period. They are made just to make your spares really. How long have you been bowling for and also, do you usually clean your bowling balls to help with the lanes?
@Thedarkbrother20 Yeah I know... that's why I used the Bruswick ball for a spare ball. I could roll it the same way but it went straight. When I used to bowl, I used to buy balls that were used at PBA tournaments. I cleaned them every time I bowled. I haven't bowled in years... but I was in a league when I worked at a place where everyone bowled. Now, it's golf.
@Hoopermazing Tournaments...nice...They do have a lot of good stuff there but also you may have been cleaning them but there is a method that a guy in the pro shop where I work told me to leave the bowling ball outside to rid the oil off. Just because you cleaned it doesn't mean it was going to rid of oil.
@Thedarkbrother20 I never really had a problem with oil affecting the tracking of my bowling balls. However, a friend of mine used to run his bowling balls through his dishwasher. I never felt the need to go to those extremes.

So, I never hung onto a ball for any length of time. Many times, I ended up selling the balls for more than I paid for them after a few months.

i picked up this split when i was only 8 years old ............. seriosly i was amazesed of what i did................. i hit the 10 pin which nipped the 6 pin caussing it to roll over to the 4 pin then nocking that backwards to the 7 pin letting me pick u this split!!!!!!

If you look closely, you can see someone in the background pushing the final two over... the pin from the other side didn't come anywhere near them. They do this kind of thing all the time to make for better TV.

I have picked this up in sanctioned bowling league. November of 2008. Such a nice patch as well. I didn't bring the pin out of the pit though. The 6 slid across, pegged the 4, then slid softly into the 7 almost not making it fall.

@LazyArseEddie having a home run in a baseball match consists from a throw and the hit with the bat. these are elements that change in every game. math tests are never the same, they also change. Bowling doesn't change. It's always just the ball and you. No matter who is watching and stuff, it never changes the situation and if the situation remains the same, you should be able to keep doing perfect scores over and over again. That's why bowling from all the other sports is stupid!
@Master898 : Said from someone who doesn't know much about the sport. Elements change in bowling too. Lane conditions vary in oil pattern. It's also nearly impossible to throw the same ball twice, controlling the revolution rate/speed to adjust to the lane. As you can see in the video, situations change and people have to come up with tough shots. If bowling were as easy as you make it out to be, then I agree that it would be stupid. It's not an easy game to master.

How I converted my 7-9 split? I lightly dusted the 9 pin on the right side. It barely dropped to the left, rolled over toward the 7 pin, and the 9 had just enough oomph to barely trip over the 7 pin. The bowling moment I will never forget. I made this split in the spring of 1973.
I have picked up the 4-6 and the Greek Church but I think the big four is harder. Only the 7-10 is harder than that one. Maybe the sour apple (5-7-10)
ive made the sour apple haha it was during a 24 hour of bowling event and i was messing around with a 6 pounder, just two finger the ball and hit the 5 by crossing over (ima righty) the 6 pounder will deflect off the 5 and hit the 7 and send the 5 over to the 10..its quite a funny sight to see!
The night of my junior prom in high school, I converted a 7-9 split in front of my classmates, but this 4-6-7-10 conversion sure puts mine to shame.....lol.
im glad it was walter that got it first. hes a machine. i picked that up in league last year doin the mirror of what williams did it. hit the 4 7 and kicked the 10 foreward. made 50 bucks too from spectator bets!!
its impossible to hit this by keeping it on the lane. the only way to hit alot of splits is to basically get lucky and bounce it out of the back. like the 7-10. there is no angle to hit it at where u can keep it on the lane lol
im honestly dissapointed ive been watching a couple of spare videos and they all seem to be bounces off the back none are actually because they angled it correctly to shoot across the lane....
for these types of splits (7-10, 4-6-7-10, 4-6, etc), it's pretty much impossible to slide a pin across the lane horizontally. the only way to pick them up would be to bounce them.
The 7-10 split is only possible to convert when on pin or the other is deflected out of the pit and back onto the pin deck to trip the remaining pin. The "BIG 4" can be made by either sliding the 4 or 6 pin over to the other side of the lane, or by doing what Walter Ray did in this video. However, pros normally succumb to the split and simply shoot for the most likely highest count. In this situation, Walter Ray went for 2 and got all 4. This is why he didn't attempt to slide the pins over.
The 7-10 can also be converted by hitting the 7 pin on the right side and bouncing it off the wall. It will come across the lane and hit the 10. Or vice versa.
Does this mean that "Kendra" also has the potential to be the best spare shooter in the PBA? Search for "Kendra converts 4-6-7-10" and you'll see the video to which I'm refering. This was simply luck, and whether you're a great spare shooter or a poor one, you cannot calculate this and execute it at will.
you clearly dont know much about bowling. I was one of the top 10 high school bowlers in new jersey in 2005, with a season avg of 218 and i can tell you confidently that making a split like this requires a lot of luck. the skill part is just picking up one of the 2 pairs on the sides. Randomly having one of the pins bounce off the back or perfectly slide over is not something people practice or "get good at".

The pitch of your thumbhole may be off. I had a problem with blisters on the bottom of my thumb and all I needed was just a plug-and-redrill of the thumbhole with the correct pitch.

Bowling doesn't change. It's always just the ball and you. No matter who is watching and stuff, it never changes the situation and if the situation remains the same, you should be able to keep doing perfect scores over and over again. That's why bowling from all the other sports is stupid!

@Master898 : Said from someone who doesn't know much about the sport. Elements change in bowling too. Lane conditions vary in oil pattern. It's also nearly impossible to throw the same ball twice, controlling the revolution rate/speed to adjust to the lane. As you can see in the video, situations change and people have to come up with tough shots. If bowling were as easy as you make it out to be, then I agree that it would be stupid. It's not an easy game to master.

made the big 4 just last week, made the 4-10, 4-6, 6-7, 7-9, and 2-7 splits. i came very close to making the 7-10 but the damn pin stopped short

How I converted my 7-9 split? I lightly dusted the 9 pin on the right side. It barely dropped to the left, rolled over toward the 7 pin, and the 9 had just enough oomph to barely trip over the 7 pin. The bowling moment I will never forget. I made this split in the spring of 1973.

I have picked up the 4-6 and the Greek Church but I think the big four is harder. Only the 7-10 is harder than that one. Maybe the sour apple (5-7-10)

ive made the sour apple haha it was during a 24 hour of bowling event and i was messing around with a 6 pounder, just two finger the ball and hit the 5 by crossing over (ima righty) the 6 pounder will deflect off the 5 and hit the 7 and send the 5 over to the 10..its quite a funny sight to see!

im glad it was walter that got it first. hes a machine. i picked that up in league last year doin the mirror of what williams did it. hit the 4 7 and kicked the 10 foreward. made 50 bucks too from spectator bets!!

1-7-10 I've had set up, it's not too tough to pick up, the 5-7-10 is the one I've never seen picked up.

its impossible to hit this by keeping it on the lane. the only way to hit alot of splits is to basically get lucky and bounce it out of the back. like the 7-10. there is no angle to hit it at where u can keep it on the lane lol

for these types of splits (7-10, 4-6-7-10, 4-6, etc), it's pretty much impossible to slide a pin across the lane horizontally. the only way to pick them up would be to bounce them.

The 7-10 split is only possible to convert when on pin or the other is deflected out of the pit and back onto the pin deck to trip the remaining pin. The "BIG 4" can be made by either sliding the 4 or 6 pin over to the other side of the lane, or by doing what Walter Ray did in this video. However, pros normally succumb to the split and simply shoot for the most likely highest count. In this situation, Walter Ray went for 2 and got all 4. This is why he didn't attempt to slide the pins over.

The 7-10 can also be converted by hitting the 7 pin on the right side and bouncing it off the wall. It will come across the lane and hit the 10. Or vice versa.

Does this mean that "Kendra" also has the potential to be the best spare shooter in the PBA? Search for "Kendra converts 4-6-7-10" and you'll see the video to which I'm refering. This was simply luck, and whether you're a great spare shooter or a poor one, you cannot calculate this and execute it at will.

you clearly dont know much about bowling. I was one of the top 10 high school bowlers in new jersey in 2005, with a season avg of 218 and i can tell you confidently that making a split like this requires a lot of luck. the skill part is just picking up one of the 2 pairs on the sides. Randomly having one of the pins bounce off the back or perfectly slide over is not something people practice or "get good at".

The pitch of your thumbhole may be off. I had a problem with blisters on the bottom of my thumb and all I needed was just a plug-and-redrill of the thumbhole with the correct pitch.
