  • i so wish there was a karaoke version!

  • yeah ^^

    the matter-patter-trio :D

i already know the lyrics of it, now im learning to sing along xDDD

  • this is from Rudigore

  • @fagottist They know. It's one of the lyrics.

  • @fagottist yeah but this is the pirates of penzance version, hence the lyric change.

  • the word matter now makes me sick

  • This melody was also used as the "Typing Speed Test" in the Broadway musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie"

  • That's true; this song is technically from Ruddigore. The movie makers just took it, changed a few words, and stuck it in.

But I love it anyway. :)

  • Actually, any sullivan scholar can tell you that the "Matter" trio was only written for Ruddigore, and was never in Pirate (whatever stage of the libretto you look at). It was a choice, along with "sorry her lot" from Pinafore, by Papp to fill out what he thought was a short second act with not enough "big" numbers for his stars.

  • I am fully in love with this song, i just love the pace and vocabulary of all G&S patter songs, theyre just brilliant

  • Our drama department is putting on a show using some of the music from Gilbert and Sullivan, including this song! Try teaching this to High School students! I sure have my job cut out for me! Thanks for this!

  • yeah.. try teaching it to middle school students- thats what we have to do I'm playing Ruth

  • Good luck with that! My Highschoolers never did quite learn it. Sad to say it came out rather awful, but they did try!

  • this song was cut before it was put on stage then sullivan put it in ruddigore with robin a.k.a sir riven mugertroyd, margret mugertroyed o.k.a mad margret and despard mugertroyd.

  • Interesting. Where did you learn that?

  • i have a book with all the lyrics in it and also has a note saying we're the song would've been in the opera. then if you listen to the same song on ruddigore it's the same tune but the lyrics where slightly changed.

  • Just for anyone wondering its called the Matter-Patter Trio, everyone used a different name for it so its really hard to find!

    PS. I LOVE THIS SONG!

  • Well, of cousre but that's ok.

  • you missed "my" from "and my moral senses" in the first part, and later on, the other operetta they refer to is Ruddigore, not Roddigore.
