@lipsmackerlovertv You do need meringue powder. The powder helps with the drying process. It makes the skull stiff and last longer. You may want to check your local craft store, if you can't find it there, you can check online.
What is the ratio? If i only want to make one cup of the mixture, i use one cup of sugar, and how much meringue and water? a tsp each? thank you! great video by the way!
if you want to make sugar skulls that are edible, you could mix in a but of vinegar, it helps making them a bit more restistant to water without ruinng the taste
@TheLampDancer I used Wilton's and they have held up just fine. I took them out and touched them, just to make sure and they are still hard as a rock and the decorations are still on them.
@GakkiSai The main purpose of the sugar skull is for decoration. Although they are made of edible materials (sugar, meringue powder), would you really want to eat almost a pound of sugar? They are more art and less food. If you would like to make skulls that are edible, I suggest getting the smaller molds and making them out of chocolate.
@rociofiga We decorated them with royal icing. For the painted part we used food coloring (the painting of the skull) it took several days to dry and ran a little bit. Remember that these are sugar and any water that gets on them will make them dissolve. You might be able to use acrylic paint but food coloring and royal icing works the best and will last for a very long time.
While the ingredients for the skull are all edible, we still recommend not eating them. When they're set, the sugar is rock hard and royal icing isn't pleasant tasting. If they've been displayed for a while, they might have picked up some dust and dirt. So even though they might technically be edible and sometimes are eaten, their use both culturally and in our example is more for decoration.
@mysterymelody here in mexico you can eat them, I quite like them. but is kind of a greeting to a diabetic coma jajaja. The chocolate skulls are tasty too.

Can we eat them if we want to???
spoilt02 4 months ago
But you CAN eat them, they are meant to be treats for children as well as decoration. It maybe has as much sugar as any other hard candy.
andemo34 4 months ago
Can you please write a list of the things and where did you get the mold?

you don't used more than the 10 spoons of water? or you add more? GRACIAS!!
mikyztly 4 months ago
@mikyztly Start with 10 and see what the consistency feels like. You don't want the sugar wet, just slightly moist-so it feels like sand.
