Really nice look at the work it took to make great classic animation like that of Snow White. Really makes you appreciate the old films in a different way, more like an artists paining than an funny little short (not to say it shouldn't be viewed for it's entertainment value)
The animator drawing Mickey Mouse from 3:18 to 3:51 is actually drawing him with a grease pencil, rather than a traditional lead pencil, since lead would not really photograph well.
That's how the video comes off, but I believe it was at about this time that Walt was keeping to his office more and putting a lot of pressure on his animators with not so good pay. It's probably calmer and all the more fun now though.
@CPProductions13 It's not any easier now. If you are doing "2D animation," you are still making a lot of drawings. And today, the standards are so much higher due to all of the pioneering discoveries that have brought animated features to today's level of expectation.
@Katgrl18 No, it's not the same, nor is it calmer since the organization has become so formal and compartmentalized. There are more psychological pressures from supervisors and management. Also, there have been more reported cases of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in recent years due to the strict requirements for clean finished drawings.
I love watching these videos about Walt's Studio. It was only good when Walt was alive. The studio was good in the late 80's and early 90's but it took a fast face plant into the pavement. Now its beginning to revive slowly!!!
If you like that, you should see this one scene in "The Reluctant Dragon", which features a scene of a cartoon with Casey Jr. (who would appear in Dumbo), the primary purpose of the scene being to add sound to the scene via more sound effect contraptions, like the kind seen in this film.

I believe the music that they're playing would be later used in "Donald's Ostrich".

Always liked seeing those sound effects contraptions that they built.
