this song makes me think about the ups and downs in life and how its all turning out to be positive in the end...I love life and im tryin to just travel the country and do whatever i want..bein on tour is awesome too but i want to do more than that now..im tryin to explore the interior, sleep under the stars, listen to the breeze blowin through pine trees on a steep mountain slope, you know dig my toes in... im tryin to live it up while it lasts...just me and the ones i love..me and my friends
thanks for putting the studio version up; i hear live versions of it all the time on their Sirius sat station when i am checking in on what's playing there; they play it a lot and or course many of the live versions are awesome but overall i missed out on this song when i was listening to them in the seventies; i mistook it for a classic folk ballad; am sure am not the first one this band done that to...ha ha
In the late 70's I played this album literally hundreds of times. Yeah this is studio stuff but anyway I really liked all those old albums and there were so many great tracks on this one. And Donna vocals.
robert hunter has written too many songs I love for me to even try to list a favorite but there are so many lines in this song that are so magically and vaguely evocative...lord...if I can write one song even close to this caliber before I die.... :-))
dont hang your head let the two time roll
grass shack nailed to a pine wood floor
come back steppin like to walk on air
double twist when you hit the air
the levee doin the dopaso ahh, forever grateful and yeah me too, my fav album art

I thinks its Keith's Rhodes piano and other keyboards that add so much to this...
.The Rhodes piano is an electro-mechanical piano, invented by Harold Rhodes during the fifties and later manufactured in a number of models.
